Did you make any resolutions for the new year? Personally, I don’t make resolutions. I feel like it sets me up for failure. Instead I tell myself I am going to make “better for me” life choices (choose water over coffee, park further away from a store to get some more steps in…).
For many (and I do mean MANY) years, I always resolved to lose weight and exercise on a daily basis. That usually lasts for the first week fo the new year, then I fall back into my old habits. I can usually last longer eating healthier, but exercise… ugh… that is my least favorite thing to do.
I don’t mind walking. I walk on the weekends with my husband around local parks. It’s walk more during the week, but where we live is just a huge parking lot and nothing interesting to look at. I also prefer to exercise at home because I don’t have to deal with weather issues or people judging me.
Over the years we’ve purchased exercise equipment that usually ends up being a “coat rack” (exercise bike, elliptical machine) or tucked under the bed never to be seen again (weights, elastic bands). Forget exercise videos too… boring.
Another thing I have to take into consideration is that we live on the top floor condo. We have someone living directly under us. I don’t want to jump up and down (jumping jacks, jump rope) and make his ceiling and walls shake, and having to have him listen to me thumping around.
In addition to everything else, I am very out of shape and overweight. I also have health issues that make it harder to do the exercises I’d like to do (I would love to try cycling).
Surely there is a fun way to exercise – one that is low impact and I can do at home.
There is! It’s called a Brrrn Board (yes, it’s spelled that way). I have never seen anything like this before.
Here is some background information.
The art of sliding is a fitness movement making a comeback—reimagined with the Brrrn Board. This has got to be the most unusual, yet unique, way to exercise.
I was sent one to review.
What exactly is the Brrn Board?
The Brrrn Board is a 6′ board (adjustable to 5′) rectangular board made out of a polymer blend. The understand is made out of recycled rubber to keep it from slipping. The side/adjustable bumper pieces are made out of wood.
The best way to describe the Brrrn Board is like ice skating… but in your home.
To use the Brrrn Board you need to use a special spray (included) to make the surface easier to glide on, and wipe the board to make sure you covered the whole thing with the included cloth. Then you put on the Brrrn Board booties (also included) over your shoes. Now you are ready to glide your way to fitness.
I was very surprised as to how slippery the board (wearing the booties) is. It’s not slippery where you are going to get injured, as long as you don’t fool around on it. It’s not dangerous, it’s just easy to slide on, and that is how you want it to be.
There are plenty of FREE exercise videos on YouTube that provide you with a plethora of difference exercises you can do using the Brrrn Board. They range from 10-30 minute exercise sessions using the Brrrn Board. There are DOZENS of videos for you to choose from, each focusing on different areas (core, legs, cardio, upper body, endurance…). You can also add weights, bands and other exercise equipment to make the most of the various exercises. There are even pre-natal and senior focused videos. Brrrn Board is for everyone – except children. I would not recommend this for children because they would most likely fool around, slip and hurt themselves.
You can check out the videos for yourself to see how many exercises can be done using the Brrrn Board on their YouTube channel found HERE.
Here is a sample video for you to see someone “in action” using the Brrrn Board.
I am NOT comfortable being on camera, let alone video (sorry). I am very self-conscious about how I look, and I have a low self-esteem, due to being overweight. I’m also still learning about all I can do with the Brrrn Board. I am going at my own pace, doing exercises that I feel most comfortable with. I’m also building up my endurance in hopes I can do a 30-minute workout with ease. Right now I’m about at the ten minute mark.
You can really feel this in your legs. Trust me, this is a workout! The first few times I used the Brrrn Board I felt it. I was using muscles I haven’t used in ages. I’m also very out of shape.
FYI… I didn’t take a photo of my Brrrn Board for the simple reason I have eight (yes, 8) cats. Every time I put the board down to use they come over and want to be on it. Trying to shoo them away from the board and get a decent photo is easier said than done. Not only that, I need to move my coffee table and ottoman out of the way for the board (our living room is narrow), and I rather not show off my living room.
Currently I store the board on it’s side in the hallway. I’m going to move it under the bed but at the moment we have our old TV under the bed waiting for my daughter to come and get it for her apartment. Once that is gone I can move it under there when not in use.
It’s not heavy, but the length can make it a wee bit awkward to move around. It does have a handle which is very handy.

When the new year rolled in I told myself I was going to make an effort to get my A1C down. To do that I need to watch what I eat, keep track of my glucose levels (I’m diabetic), and exercise. At the time I am writing this I have lost eight pounds (YAY!). I know that is only a “drop in the bucket” seeing as how I SHOULD lose another 50+ pounds to be a healthy weight for my height/age, but I haven’t weighed this weight in a very long time. If I can lose another eight (8) pounds I’ll weigh less than I did in 28 years! No kidding.
I’m not saying the Brrrn Board is exclusively the reason why I lost the weight. Like I said, I am carefully watching what I eat, but exercise DOES help, and the more weight I lose, the better I’ll feel, and the more exercises I can do with the Brrrn Board. My “goal” is to successfully complete the 30 minute Brrrn Board exercises. Plus the Brrrn Board can help my body get back in shape as I lose weight.
If you are looking for a FUN, easy, low impact exercise program you can do from the comfort of your own home, I recommend the Brrrn Board. The initial investment might be a bit for some people, but, it’s a lot less than an elliptical, treadmill and rower.

You can purchase the Brrrn Board both on the brands website, as well as on Amazon (Prime too!). It currently has 4.5 out of 5 stars.
What do you think about the Brrrn Board? Does it sound like something you would like to try for yourself?
Feel free to comment and share your thoughts. I always love to hear from readers.
