Jewelry to Make You Feel Like a Hollywood Star

Each year at the Oscars, even though winning is the main event, it’s fair to say that one thing all viewers are focused on is the bling and sparkle draped over the luxurious celebrity attendees! Unfortunately for all of us, a lot of this amazing jewelry is out of the normal price range, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t look a million dollars if you find the right pieces. We have scoured the internet to find some sensational jewelry trends that can do just that. Here is some jewelry to make you feel like a true Hollywood star.

Statement Earrings

Sometimes it is a good idea to substitute huge expense for huge size! Statement earrings are a simple way to pack a lot of punch with your accessories, and the different designs on display from brands like Alessandra Rich jewelry show you just how diverse and interesting the looks can be if you choose the right pieces. Large hoop design earrings, in particular, are a very on-trend design in Hollywood right now.

Fake Diamonds

If we’re being totally honest, the only people who can tell fake diamonds from real ones are those with professional eyepieces and experience! Don’t feel like you can’t accentuate your jewelry collection with costume pieces that sparkle just as brightly as the real thing. It all looks amazing when put together in a stunning outfit.

Chunky Gold Chains

Continuing the chunky theme, big statement gold chains are a huge Hollywood trend at the moment. From your neck to your wrist, gold chains are very fashionable right now, and the general consensus seems to be the bigger the better! Don’t be afraid to really push the boat and go outside of your comfort zone with thick chains.

If you are going to spend Hollywood style money on one item of jewelry this year, make sure that is on a wonderful set of pearls. Everything in fashion is cyclical, and it seems as though the time has come back around for pearls to be front and center. Pearls deliver the perfect blend of style and sophistication.

Exude some of your style and personality in the form of a beautiful broach. Much like pearls, they evoke a golden age of glamour, something that those in Hollywood are always keen to bring back.

Hopefully this has helped you to see that even though you might not be banking the same kinds of checks that Hollywood royalty does, you can still look just as glamorous and timeless thanks to clever jewelry purchases. There is nothing to stop you from achieving red carpet levels of style from the comfort of your wallet.

Make a statement with Amorcito jewelry

PHOTO SOURCE: Amorcito Jewelry Facebook Page

Are you into wearing jewelry? I used to be as a teen and young adult. When I became a mom that all changed. I ended up not wearing any jewelry, except my wedding ring, because my kids would constantly be tugging on things and either breaking necklaces off my neck, or trying to yank earrings out of my ears.

Now my kids are young adults, so I can wear jewelry again. Sadly, many of my pieces of jewelry have either been lost, broken or I’ve given away. I only have a basic “supply” of jewelry. Just simple stuff that I can wear to work and running errands.

Sometimes I like to make a statement with how I dress. There are some days that “ordinary” just won’t do for me. I also like to switch things up a bit. For example, I might get dressed up for work (where I work, casual attire is fine). Or I might put on fake eyelashes to go to work instead of my normal mascara.

When it comes to jewelry, I don’t really have much that is “snazzy” and that will jump out at your. I have a few necklaces that are a bit “different,” but that is about it.

There is a jewelry brand that offers consumers pieces that are unlike anything you have seen before. These are not your department store type of jewelry. This is jewelry that is sure to get noticed when you are wearing it.

The brand is called Amorcito. It means “sweetheart” in Spanish, and when it’s translated into English it means “little love.” That is the nickname that was given to the jewelry’s designer, Vanessa, by her husband.

Vanessa’s designs are minimalist and artist. Her creative line is perfect for fashionable women, or people like me who like to have a few statement pieces in their jewelry box.

Amorcito is dedicated to assisting victims of domestic abuse, with a portion of their sales benefiting No Silence, No Violence. Every piece in the Azuma collection is inspired by “A Flower for a Flower,” to protect the vulnerable and encourage the opportunity to bloom once again.

I love that the brand is not only helping out victims, but I also love the “A Flower for a Flower” idea.

To give you an idea of what kind of jewelry designs you can find on Amorcito’s website, here are a few examples. These are photos taken from the site.

Those side hang earrings (pictured above) are awesome. I’d love to try something like that, but not for work (I can see the kids I work with tugging on them).

I also love that pretty flower ring.

Most jewelry is available in gold, rose gold or platinum plating.

Amorcito was kind enough to send me a set of earrings to review. I was sent to review her Celestial Dangle earrings. These particular earrings are only available in a gold plating. I tend to lean more towards silver, but I do like to keep a nice assortment of gold pieces available as well, because some outfits go better with gold jewelry than silver.

These earrings are long. I can honestly say that I’ve never worn long earrings before. They took some getting used to, but eventually I did. I’m still aware that I am wearing them, but that is not a bad thing. In fact, it’s a good thing. That way I don’t forget they are on and accidentally grab them when I am pulling my hair back. That could hurt!

I don’t know who would look best in these earrings, someone with short hair or long hair? Don’t get me wrong, BOTH long/short haired people would look great in these earrings. I’m just wondering if they would stand out more with someone with short hair.

Here is me wearing the earrings. I’m holding my ear forward so you can see the top of the earring, where it goes in your ear. Otherwise my ear made that part turn to the side and you couldn’t see it in the pictures.

I’m also wearing the earring in my second hole. That’s just my personal preference. If I wear just two earrings I use my first and third holes because my second holes are too close to the first ones. For that reason I don’t use my second holes as often. When I wear these earrings I wear them in the second hole so that the hole doesn’t close up.

These earrings really stand out, as you can see. I have received many compliments on them. I can honestly say I think just about every time I’ve worn them I’ve received a compliment on these earrings.

I thought these earrings might feel heavy in my ears, but they don’t. I don’t notice I’m wearing them because of the weight, it’s more so because they go down to my shoulders.

These earrings are very well made. I have worn them many times without any issues.

The earrings also come with a larger back piece (to hold them secure in your ear). I guess it’s larger due to the larger size and weight of the earrings. I love the back because when I drop it on the floor I can actually see it whereas the little backs are nearly impossible to find.

Price wise, Amorcito might be a bit pricey. I believe they are in the $21 – $88 range, with most items between $40 – $60. That’s honestly not that bad for quality jewelry. They also have sales, so the site it worth bookmarking and checking back from time to time to see what is on sale.

If you are interested in seeing more pieces of jewelry from Amorcito, visit Amorcito.us. Notice it’s .us and not .com.

Beautiful and Affordable Jewelry from Twice Shy

I used to love to wear jewelry, and a lot of it too. As a teen and young adult, I would not leave the house unless I was wearing all my earrings (I have three holes in each ear), a necklace, bracelets and rings. During short season I would wear anklets too. I also liked to match my eye glasses, such as the kind you can find at SmartBuyGlasses. Of course, this is the same time in my life when I would spend an hour or more getting ready doing my hair and make up.

Fast forward to about 22 years ago when I became a mom to our oldest. I was a stay at home mom, so I didn’t bother getting “all dolled up” in the morning. Make up and wearing jewelry was not a priority at that point.

I still wear jewelry, but not as much as I used to. A lot of it had to do with my weight. I’m a “plus size” lady and at my highest weight I didn’t bother with my looks as much. Don’t get me wrong, I always look decent (I’m not a slob), but doing up my hair and wearing make up just didn’t seem the same.

I have lost about 50 pounds over the past year or so (yeah me!). As a result, I care more about what I wear than I did before. Yesterday I changed my bottoms three times, and my tops six times, just to find something I looked OK in. I have clothes in so many sizes right now that I find stuff either too snug, or too “frumpy” looking.

In addition to being more conscientious about what I wear, I have also been wearing jewelry a lot more. I have some necklaces, bracelets and rings, but what I don’t really have are earrings. I can honestly say that I have not worn earrings in about 20 years. I don’t even OWN earrings anymore, except for a few pairs, and they are mostly little studs.

Two of my three holes in each ear I can barely get earrings into. They holes have not closed up, but getting earrings in them are not that easy. Thankfully my original holes are OK, and I am able to fit earrings into them with no problem.

Now that I can wear earrings again, I need more. So I have been on the look out for affordable earrings. I especially like earrings that are unique and interesting. I like earrings that catch other people’s eyes.

Check out the earrings at Twice Shy (all images are from the Twice Shy website).

I love that these earrings are unique and very beautiful.

These earrings are made out of gold,  titanium, steel and silver (please refer to each piece for specific details). Some of the earrings at Twice Shy are also nickel free.

When I say affordable, I truly mean it. My family lives on a tight budget, and even I can afford these earrings. The ones pictures range in price from $13.00 – $16.50. Currently there are pairs of earrings on sale for as low as $6.50! It’s part of the brand’s end of summer sale.

Twice Shy carries studs, hoops, drop earrings (dangly ones) and even ear cuffs.

Twice Shy was kind enough to send me a pair of earrings and an ear cuff to review. I received to review the Vivienne Heart Earrings and the Nova Ear Cuff.

The Vivienne Heart Earrings are so pretty! They feature three hearts in various sizes. Each heart is completely done up in what I can only assume are rhinestones (they are not diamonds, even though they look like they can be). These are made out of sterling silver (both the earrings and the post).

I was afraid that these might be a little too fancy, but honestly, after wearing them out and about (and receiving a lot of compliments) I think these are great earrings to wear to work, on a night on the town, out to dinner and even running errands.

My Vivienne earrings and ear clip (see below for ear clip review)

I find these earrings very comfortable to wear. I honestly didn’t even feel that I was wearing earrings. Sometimes I forget I am even wearing earrings until I catch myself grabbing them when I am pulling my hair back.

I’m sorry that the picture is not the best. Hopefully you get a good idea of what these earrings look like and their overall size.

What would you expect to pay for lovely earrings like this? Thirty dollars? Forty dollars? What if I told you these gorgeous earrings are only $19.50! Nice!

In addition to these earrings, I also received the Nova Ear Cuff to review.

I’ve been wanting to get my upper ear pierced (I believe it’s called “Helix”). I haven’t taken the plunge yet. Until that time I thought that the ear cuff could give me the same type of look, without actually committing to getting a hold pierced there.

The ear cuff is really pretty, as you can see. But I have not wore it that many times, or for long period of times. It’s just that I am not used to wearing one, so it’s more noticeable, to me, when I wear it. There is also a few times my hair has got stuck on it and I’ve accidentally pulled it off when I grab my hair. It’s more so because I am not used to wearing one, so I forget about it when I pull my hair up or move my hair and glasses around. It’s more so just being aware that I am wearing it.

The Nova Ear Cuff can be seen on the upper ear area in this photo. PHOTO SOURCE: Twice Shy

I think in due time I’ll be able to wear this with no problem.

I like that it’s shown me what it might be like to have an earring in that general area. I like the look and I’m going to go for it when I have the money.

This cute little ear cuff is only $12.00 on Twice Shy’s website.

Check out the beautiful, handcrafted jewelry, from Carolyn Hearn Designs

I love jewelry – especially the sparkly kind.

Growing up I was very much a “Tom boy.” I played with my Tonka trucks more than I did my Barbie dolls.

Even as an adult I honestly don’t care about designer bags or owning a different pair of shoes for every outfit I own. I’m just a simple girl.

There is one thing that I DO enjoy that some might consider a “girly girl” thing – jewelry! I love jewelry. My husband jokes that he needs to get me “blinders” to keep me from seeing all the sparkly jewelry at the jewelry stores in the mall. He jokes that I can’t make it through the mall without stopping to “oooh” and “awww” at the sparkly jewelry.

As much as I do enjoy sparkly diamonds, I don’t really wear them. For me, diamonds are something fancy that you wear on special occasions. I prefer wearing jewelry that I can wear to work, out to run errands, or on a “date” with my husband.

Let me introduce you to the lovely jewelry from Carolyn Hearn Designs. Carolyn Hearn Designs carries jewelry that fits my lifestyle. Her jewelry is exactly the type of jewelry I enjoy – the kind that goes from grocery shopping, to work, and to a night on the town. Her pieces are not only beautiful, but they are very practical and well made.

PHOTO SOURCE: Carolyn Hearn Facebook page

Carolyn Hearn was kind enough to send me some pieces to review. It was very difficult (and that is not an exaggeration) to narrow down what piece of jewelry I wanted to check out in person. She has so many gorgeous pieces on her site.

What I loved about her jewelry is that many of her pieces are infused with essential oils such as Bergamot, Patchouli, Blood Orange, Ying Yang, Pink Grapefruit, Ylang Ylang, Patchouli, Frankincense Serrata, Clary Sage, Sweet Orange and Thyme, to name a few.

I am a huge fan of essential oils. I have had great experience with them when it comes to helping me to alleviate my mood, energize me and help me unwind and rest at night. I have a nice assortment of oils. I appreciate that Carolyn Hearn has made jewelry already infused with fabulous essential oils.

I was sent to review a “stack” of three individual bracelets known as the “Pure Warrior Stack.”

Here are the details about the bracelet set.

  • Howlite & Lava Stones*
  • Quartz Arrowhead Connector*
  • Stretch
  • Coated in a Protective Sealant
  • Made in the USA
  • *Stones are natural and vary in shape and color

You can purchase the bracelets already infused with essential oils based on your wants/needs. Or you can purchase them without essential oils so you can infuse them with your personal favorites and/or blends.

With this bracelet set you have the choice of Energizing, Tranquility, Invigorating and Meditation (or with no oils). I opted for Invigorating.

My bracelet set came infused with the following essential oils – Sandalwood, Black Pepper and Lemon. These scents are suppose to help promote focus and alertness. These are areas I need help with.

Carolyn Hearn also offers this bracelet with other stones. I opted for the black and white colors because they I wear a lot of black and black and white fits better with my wardrobe.

I have a thick wrist (7.5″ – 8″ depending on the bracelet). These bracelets fit me just fine. They are stretchy enough to fit on my thick wrist without being uncomfortable. They also fit my daughter’s wrist just fine, and she has a small wrist.

I love the arrow head connector/charm. It’s unique. I get a lot of compliments on it.

Please disregard my chubby arm/wrist/hand and wrinkles. Sigh…

They bracelets do have a light scent to them. It’s not overpowering and it’s not like perfume where people passing by will smell it. It’s more for “your nose only,” so to speak. I do get a whiff of the scent when I am wearing the bracelets and I adjust my glasses, pull my hair back or do anything that might draw my wrists up towards my nose. When I am wearing them at my desk I can smell them a bit too as I’m leaning over my keyboard to type.

I enjoy the fragrance. I cannot pin point any specific scent. I just know that combined, it smells delightful. I find myself taking a whiff of my wrist from time to time just to enjoy the fragrance. I do find it invigorating. I’m not sure if it really helps me focus, but I do find it refreshing and it perks me up. That works for me!

If essential oil infused jewelry is not your “thing,” that’s OK. Carolyn Hearn has plenty of other beautiful pieces to choose from in a variety of price points. Also available are other bracelets, necklaces and earrings. Here are a few more examples.

If you are interested in learning more about Carolyn Hearns lovely jewelry, or what to check out what is available, visit CarolynHearn.com.

The brand can also be found on social media. All of the links are found at the bottom of the website.

What do you think about Carolyn Hearn jewelry? Did you find any pieces you would love to add to your collection?

A Basic Guide For Evaluating Colored Gemstones

When it comes to gemstones, diamonds are easily the global favorite. You will find them in necklaces that women pass down through generations, in the all-important engagement rings of hopeful couples, and in many priceless bracelets everywhere. They even have their place in demanding industries that deal with a lot of glass, sturdy polymers and tough metals, since their amazing hardness allows them to cut through basically anything.

However, this immense popularity should not be allowed to overshadow other gemstones out there. In fact, even though diamonds come in several different colors, that is barely a speck of the multitude of colored gemstones out there. If you check out a directory like this one, you can get an idea of the many different varieties there are. So when you come across a colored gemstone, how can you figure out what you are dealing with?

Understand the three basic factors

The three major items in grading the quality of colored gems are the saturation, the color, and the hue of the stone. Let’s take a look at each.

Saturation refers to the interplay of color and grayness. When the inherent “depth” of a given color is dulled down by the presence of gray, we say that the stone lacks saturation.

In other words, a 100% saturated gem would be entirely free of any grayness throughout. This never really occurs in nature; therefore, the closer a gemstone is to this ideal saturation level the more valuable and expensive it will be.

The value and price are further augmented by the accompanying metals and the processing and shaping of the stone. A chart of cuts can give you a comprehensive idea of the various gemstones made appropriate for jewelry.

Colors are classified as primary (yellow, red, and blue) and secondary (orange, purple, and green). This is the typical setup that you see on the color wheel. However, in the natural world, there is a wide prevalence of tertiary colors as well.

A tertiary color is made by overlapping a primary and secondary color. For example, if you mix the primary blue with the secondary green (which in itself is already a mix of blue and yellow), you will typically end up with some shade of turquoise.

Of course, a color can also mix with white, black, or gray. In those cases, we reach for the ideas of saturation and hue, as well as tint.

The hue is the actual “color our eyes perceive”, in other words, the pigment – those primary and secondary ones from earlier. In that sense, white, black, and gray are technically “colors” but they have no “hue”. Believe it or not, this idea has been a philosophical battleground for ages, and you can see that in this comprehensive historical overview: http://www.huevaluechroma.com/071.php

Over the years, some hues grow more popular, more appreciated, and therefore costlier than others. In our day, blue, pink, and red are considered more desirable than yellow or purple, but these attitudes are just a fashion trend. Moreover, they are culturally conditioned, so people from different countries and traditions will have different preferences of gemstone colors.

As an honorary factor, we briefly mentioned tint. A gemstone is said to be tinted if its inherent color is mixed in with some white, making it lighter than usual. By the above logic, tinted stones are less saturated than their “original”, “default” counterparts; and therefore they are less appreciated. The more tinted the gem, the less valuable it will be, in turn making them more affordable.

There are three prestigious exceptions to this rule, where the gemstone’s high value is possible exactly because of the unique hue/ tint ratio. These are the cornflower blue sapphire, the Rhodolite (a sub-type of garnet), and the esteemed Padparadscha sapphire (the rarest, delicate, pink-orange corundum mineral whose name is derived from the color of the lotus).

More can be learned about a colored gemstone, if you look at things like tone, color grade, color zoning, depth, brilliancy, and clarity. These concepts are more advanced, and out of the scope of this crash course, but stick to the basics here and you can find your perfect gemstone for sure.

Anjolee Jewelry Will Take Your Breath Away

I would not consider myself a “girly-girl.” I was very much a “tom boy” growing up. I enjoyed playing with my Tonka trucks as much as I did Barbie dolls, if not more.

Even as a teenager, I wasn’t really into making sure my purse matched my outfit, or spending hours on hair and make-up before going out.

As an adult, I’m content to wear my hair in a messy bun, slip into my favorite t-shirt and leggings, and dare I say, NOT wear make-up. Oh the horror! LOL!

I may not care to own a lot of shoes, or splurge on brand name make-up, but I do like shiny things (“bling”). My husband always makes jokes about how I tend to wonder over to the jewelry stores when we’re at the mall.

I love looking at jewelry. I know that we can never afford any of it, but it doesn’t hurt to look. I also don’t think that I could comfortably wear a diamond ring that cost $20,000+. I would be afraid to leave the house with it.

For years I have wanted a special ring to commemorate my marriage. Often these are referred to as anniversary rings, or eternity bands.

I’ve had a vision in my mind as to what my perfect anniversary ring/eternity band would look like. I have looked online many times (and bookmarked plenty of rings) in hopes of finding “the one,” especially one that is affordable.

Not too long ago I was contacted by a jewelry company called Anjolee. They take their jewelry seriously (more on that later).

Anjolee has been the leader in jewelry manufacturing since 1977, recognized within the industry for fine craftsmanship, attention to detail and superior customer service. They are proud of the service they provide, and the special moments they help to create. Their commitment to building strong relationships with their customers earned Anjolee a top three ranking in Newsweek’s 2018 survey, America’s Best Customer Service.

Anjolee is committed to keeping the environment clean, and they are proud of their innovative and eco-friendly manufacturing facility.

Anjolee fully complies with the federal Kimberly Act of 2003, which requires all American diamond retailers to purchase all diamonds only from manufacturers who have documented proof that they were obtained through legitimate channels.

I like that Anjolee uses diamonds that were legally and ethically sourced.

I took the opportunity to browse through the Anjolee website to check out the jewelry they offer consumers. WOW! They have a beautiful variety of rings, bracelets, earrings and more on their website.

Here are just a few of my favorite finds.

The tennis bracelet with the hearts (pictured above) is GORGEOUS!

What I really liked about the Anjolee website is that they offer you 360 degree views of the jewelry, so you can see it from all angles. I appreciate that because often websites just give you a single view of an item, and I want to see exactly what I am going to get when ordering online.

In addition, Anjolee also shows how the jewelry would look on a person. It’s a computer generated person, but they are very realistic and it does give you a good representation of how the jewelry will look on a person. They also show you different views of the jewelry on the computer generated person including up close and far away.

If a piece of jewelry is available in different metals (yellow gold, rose gold, platinum…), the website often allows you to change the metal color so that you can see what the piece would look like when you compare the various metals.

The above is a great example of what I am talking about. It’s the same bracelet, but the website allows you to see what it would look like using different metals (white gold and yellow gold).

Anjolee offered to send me a piece of jewelry so I could experience shopping on the website, as well as the jewelry. I did not receive a real diamond ring (of course), but honestly, you can’t tell the difference. I was able to fool a lot of people with the ring I received teh review. No one suspected that it wasn’t made with real diamonds. If you order from Anjolee you will received real diamonds and gems.

To say it took me hours to scroll through each page to find the piece of jewelry I wanted to review is an understatement. I was thrilled to find a ring that looks exactly like the anniversary ring/eternity band I had envisioned for myself. Anjolee was so wonderful to re-create that same ring for me to review (using “fake diamonds”). Needless to say I was stalking our delivery guys until the day it arrived.

The ring I selected is called the Supreme Diamond Three Stone Engagement Ring. I know that I’m not getting engaged (I’ve been married close to 23 years), but it’s the ring I have always envisioned on my finger.

I took images off the Anjolee website so that you can get a clearer view of this amazing ring.

I was extremely surprised to see the size of the package I received from Anjolee. I figured since it was a ring, it would come in a small box or envelope. I was very wrong in my assumption.

Anjolee made sure I received my package by having me sign for it. I think that is a wise thing to do, especially when you are shipping valuable jewelry.

What I received was a huge box. I thought for sure that Anjolee sent me the wrong piece of jewelry.

After going through the outer packaging, I found a large, sturdy box inside. When I opened that box (the one pictured above), I found the ring box, neatly tucked away inside the middle of the box, surrounded by a soft sponge-like material. Anjolee even went so far as to make “holes” in the sponge, making it easier to remove the ring box.

I was so excited to open up the ring box.

What Anjolee failed to include were angles singing when I opened the ring box (ha ha). Hearing angels sing “ah ah ahhhhh…” would have been fitting (ha ha).

Inside the ring box was my ring. Not only that, the inside of the box is LIGHTED, which shows off just how sparkly and amazing the ring really is.

My photos do not do this ring and it’s packaging justice. You have to see them in person to experience their beauty.

The light (as seen above) is a small LED light that turns on every time you open the box.

There is a mark in the center of the box (in the bottom photo). That is not a mark on the box – it’s the LED light.

Even the actual ring box is gorgeous. It’s hard (wood?) and shiny. It even has felt on the bottom of it so as not to scratch any surface it’s placed on. Anjolee really thought of everything.

I have fat, wrinkly, old lady hands. I was reluctant to take a photo with the ring on.

Truly, my photos do NOT do this ring justice. I can’t stop looking at it. It’s wonderful and exactly what I’ve always wanted.

The ring features three large “diamonds” – two the same size and the one in the middle a wee bit larger. Goes down the sides of the ring are smaller “diamonds.” You can see them in the photos (refer to the stock photo from Anjolee, pictured above).

The ring is stunning, and very well made. I have worn it many times and I haven’t lost a stone or had any thing go “wrong” with my ring. It’s just as beautiful as it was the first day I put it on my wrinkly old lady finger (ha ha).

I’m impressed by the quality of Anjolee’s jewelry. I’m also totally impressed by the packaging. What a wonderful presentation.

Interestingly enough, the prices on Anjolee’s website are not that bad. They might be out of my budget, but I think a lot of people can afford their pieces. I found gorgeous pieces for under $1,000.

If you are interested in checking Anjolee out for yourself, visit Anjolee.com. The brand can also be found across social media. All of their links are found on the bottom right of their website.

What do you think about Anjolee’s jewelry? Do you see a piece that you would love to own?
