Holiday Entertainment and Movie Gifts from Mill Creek Entertainment

The holidays wouldn’t be the same without watching our favorite holiday movies. My family and I love the classics like Miracle on 34th Street and It’s a Wonderful Life. We also enjoy the “new classics” like Jingle All the Way, Elf, A Christmas Story and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.

There is nothing better during the holidays then being surrounded by your family, sipping hot cocoa, snuggling under fuzzy blankets by the Christmas tree, watching a holiday movie.

We own a lot of holiday films, but there is always room for more in our holiday collection.

Mill Creek Entertainment carries a lot of fun and heart-warming holiday films. They also carry a lot of bundled movies, meaning you get more than one film in a package.

I was sent to review some delightful movies. Some were holiday movies, others are great for year round viewing (and would make great gifts!).

Holiday TV Classics

I LOVE this collection of holiday television shows. There are 49 in total – enough to keep your family entertained for hours. Almost twenty one hours to be exact.

The episodes come from well known shows, like The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet, Dragnet, Petticoat Junction, The Jack Benny Show and the Beverly Hillbillies. There are also some shows on there I have never heard of until now like Captain Gallant of the Foreign Legion, General Electric Theater and Racket Squad. That’s OK. I love seeing new shows.

These episodes are old. I love the retro-classic look and vibe of the episodes. I especially get a kick out of how people dressed and looked back then. Things were so much different than they are today. I really appreciate the classics. It reminds me of my youth. NOT that I’m old… I just remember watching stuff like this when I was younger.

If You Believe & A Different Kind of Christmas

This is a double feature DVD set.

If You Believe stars Hayden Panettiere. It’s a modern take on the classic Scrooge story. Susan is not really joyful during the holiday season. It seems like her life is not working out the way she had planned. Nothing seems to be going right for her, that is until she meets an adorable little girl named Suzie who makes her see what the holidays are really about.

In A Different Kind of Christmas. Shelley Long plays a single mom who is running for the position of mayor in the town where she lives. That might not be that easy once people realize that the new man in town that thinks he’s Santa Claus is her father.

Both of these movies were enjoyable and entertaining. They have a classic “Hallmark Channel” movie feel to them. If you enjoy those types of movies (the ones that air on the Hallmark Channel), then you’ll certainly enjoy both of these films.

All I Want for Christmas

In this romantic movie, a young by named Jesse hopes to one day have a new dad. Ever since his father died, his mom, Sarah, has been keeping herself busy and hasn’t really found someone.

After winning a contest sponsored by a toy company, Jesse and his mom are put in the limelight. Sarah’s single status is made public and suddenly she finds herself with more than she can handle. She goes on many dates but they never seem to work out. She does find that she’s being pursued by the toy company’s wealthy owner, Roger, but Jesse and his buddy Ben, are against their relationship. Especially because Ben realizes that he has feelings for Sarah.

Who’ll win Sarah’s heart? Ben or Roger?

Mill Creek Entertainment carries a lot of movies and shows I didn’t even know existed. One such movie is a holiday movie staring the super star dog of the 70’s and 80’s, Benji.

I LOVED the Benji films! They were my favorite when I was younger. I’m such an big animal lover, so I enjoy animal related movies. Benji was so adorable. I wanted to own him.

I have seen the original Benji films, but I didn’t know that there was a holiday Benji movie. It’s called Benji’s Very Own Christmas Story.

Wow! I am so surprised that I never knew this film existed.

Check out the film’s trailer.

This is a cute movie. It’s a bit “cheesy,” but fun to watch none-the-less. I was a bit disappointed that Benji wasn’t really the center of attention in this movie (Santa was), but he’s still there and cute as ever.

I was very surprised at how short this was. It’s more like a television episode than a movie. I’m guessing maybe it only aired on television? I’m not sure. I’ll have to do some research.

If your child/children love cute dogs, and you are looking for a holiday family movie, Benji’s Very Own Christmas Story is a entertaining option.

Speaking of Benji, Mill Creek Entertainment carries a few different Benji movies, from the original (this will always be my favorite Benji movie) to a more “modern day” version of Benji  (there was one that was released in 2004).

Mill Creek Entertainment sent me a Benji movie collection featuring four Bengi movies. This collection includes the second film, For the Love of Benji which I love just as much as the original film (the original wins out as my most favorite).

So far my family has watched the original Benji. I have also watched the second movie (I was home alone that way). I’m glad that my kids got to experience something that brought me great joy as a child. They love Benji and both said we should look for a dog to adopt that looks like him. If only such a dog existed. I think he was one of a kind.

If you grew up watching this beloved canine, then you’ll certainly want to get your “paws” on this movie collection. It would also make a great gift for a Beni fan or someone who is into movies that bring back a bit of nostalgia.

If you are in the market for gifts of entertainment for people on your holiday shopping list, look no further than Mill Creek Entertainment. They have movies for every genre you can think of, from comedy to horror, and from westerns to musicals. They also have plenty of television series. I think their bundled movie (or television) collections are the best value. You can get HOURS of entertainment for around $20 (or less!).

Here are a few more examples.

The Wonder Years: Complete Series

My husband grew up watching The Wonder Years. He loved it as a kid. I honestly never watched it until we got married.

I have yet to watch this collection, only because I haven’t had the time. This will be great to watch on those cold and dreary winter weekends (or nights) when it’s too cold to go out of the house and do something.

I don’t find this on their website (yet). I guess it will be available soon.

Anyone who reads my blog on a regular basis knows that I LOVE horror movies. It’s my favorite movie genre. Even though moves of today’s horror movies are just silly, and they try and be more gross than scary, I am still on the look out for those little “gems” that pop up here and there.

Mill Creek Entertainment sent me the original Jaws. If you haven’t seen it yet, you are missing out.

Jaws is about a rouge Great White Shark that attacks the people on the picturesque island of Amity. Even when the chief of Police gets involved, this giant butcher from the sea will stop at nothing to stop anyone who tries to kill him.

This film made everyone who watched it re-evaluate going to the beach. LOL!

Shadow Stalkers is one of the many film collections available at Mill Creek Entertainment. This DVD collection features 10 movies. They range from the last 60’s to the late 80’s and feature actors like Faye Dunaway, Tommy Lee Jones and Karen Black.

  • Out of the Dark – 1988
  • Happy Birthday to Me – 1981
  • Eyes of Laura Mars – 1978
  • Don’t Answer the Phone – 1980
  • Nightmare in Wax – 1969
  • Bloody Pit of Horror – 1965
  • Silent Night, Bloody Night – 1972
  • Funeral Home – 1980
  • Don’t Open Till Christmas – 1984
  • Drive-In Massacre – 1974

As soon as I opened this DVD collection I had to watch Happy Birthday to Me, staring Melissa Sue Anderson (Little House on the Prairie). I have not seen the movie in DECADES. It’s about a group of students at an elite school who get murdered one by one. Are they random killings at the hands of a serial killer, or are these murders intentional? If they are, who is killing them and for what reason?

Eyes of Laura Mars is another great film. It’s about a fashion photographer (Faye Dunaway) that “sees” what a killer sees as he’s murdering her acquaintances, past lovers, and others around her. Then she “sees” that the killer is stalking her. It’s a weird movie, but really engrossing.

I’ve seen Silent Night, Bloody Night, but that was ages ago. The story is a bit “fuzzy” because I can’t remember much. Its the next movie in this collection that I plan on watching.

There are over 15+ hours of movies in this one collection. The whole collection sells for under $15. That is a great deal, especially for someone who loves horror/thriller movies.

The 12-Zombie Movie collection is an even better deal. It sells for only $9.98 and you get twelve films (16+ hours).

Here are the films in this collection.

  • Carnival of Souls – 1962
  • Dead Men Walk – 1943
  • Horror of the Zombies – 1974
  • House of the Living Dead – 1973
  • King of the Zombies – 1941
  • The Last Man on Earth – 1960
  • Mutant – 1984
  • Night of the Living Dead – 1968
  • Oasis of the Zombies – 1981
  • The Snake People – 1968
  • Teenage Zombies – 1959
  • White Zombie – 1932

Wow! Check out the dates of these films. Who knew that there were films about zombies back in the 1930’s. Vampires and Dracula I can see having films that old, but zombies?

I watched White Zombie because it stars Bela Lugosi. This is not a true zombie movie. I honestly don’t even know why the word “zombie” appears in the title. It’s an interesting film to watch, especially because of it’s age, but I wouldn’t use the term “zombie” for this film.

Night of the Living Dead is the original classic that really kickstarted the zombie genre. It’s the original film, not a remake. While I am partial to the film Dawn of the Dead (the original, not the remake) this one was still good.

I also watched Oasis of the Zombies. Wow… what a weird film. It has a bit of an “artsy” quality to it because of the unique angles in which things were shot. The story it’s self is weird, and the zombies are actually a bit creepy looking. It also features that crazy instrumental music that adds to the overall feel. It’s good, but it’s not something I would normally watch.

Mill Creek Entertainment sent me some other movies to review. I just haven’t had a chance to review them yet.

I received Designer Pups and The Astronaut Wives Club: The Complete Series. I’ll have to share my thoughts on these two titles in another post. I just wanted to include them here in case you were interested in them for yourself or for a gift.

As you can see, Mill Creek Entertainment has A LOT of entertainment options to choose from, for everyone on your holiday shopping list, from children to adults.

If you would like to see all that Mill Creek Entertainment has to offer, visit MillCreekEnt.com. You can also check out Mill Creek Entertainment on social media. All of their links can be found on the top right of their website.

Do any of these titles interest you? Do you like giving, or receiving, gifts of entertainment (movies, television)?

Celebrate Halloween with COMET TV

This is on my coffee table. Notice one of our cat’s eyes glowing in the background?

Are you a fan of horror movies? Is Halloween one of your favorite holidays?

I LOVE horror movies. I am a fan of the genre. I have been since I was a young girl. I even collect horror memorabilia (much to the dismay of my husband – LOL).

When it comes to holidays I’d have to say that Christmas and Halloween are my most favorite ones. I love Christmas for all the special moments spent with family and friends. When it comes to Halloween I enjoy decorating (the creepier the better) and all the horror movies that air all month long.

I’m not overly keen on “today’s” horror movies. The movies that come out now are just trying to be gross – not scary. You can have a scary movie without a drop of blood or a single intestine being ripped out. That is why I appreciate the movies I grew up with, as well as the horror films from a long time ago. Case in point – Nosferatu. That has to be one of the creepiest movies I’ve ever seen.

This month, COMET TV is airing a lot of awesome horror movies to keep you in the Halloween spirit. In addition, COMET TV offers viewers some great sci-fi flicks too.

COMET is a FREE streaming television service that you can watch online, via a Roku or Apple TV and through some television providers. Their specialty is sci-fi films, but they offer other fun things to watch too.

Check out what’s new on COMET and Charge! for September (Giveaway ends 10/1/18)

Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991 Japan) aka Gojira vs. Kingu Gidorâ
Directed by Kazuki Ohmori
Shown: Key Art

I’m not sure about your part of the country, but here in New York the temperature is already dipping. As I write this I am FREEZING! I had to put on our faux fireplace to take the chill out of the air (our condo board doesn’t turn on the heat until October 1st!).

When it gets colder, people tend to find activities to do inside where it’s warmer. For some people, that includes watching television and movies.

I’m glad that new series and new seasons are slowly premiering on network television. Sadly, there isn’t much on that interests me and my family. That is why we tend to watch other types of television service (streaming).

Are you familiar with COMET? I have written about in the past.

COMET is a streaming television service that you can watch online, via a Roku or Apple TV and through some television providers. COMET is free to watch and enjoy.

COMET is a Sci-Fi network that plays classic films and popular series like Stargate and Outer Limits.

One of my personal favorites that COMET plays are the old Godzilla movies. Growing up, I used to watch the old Godzilla movies with my father. We could sit there for hours and watch movie after movie. I have watched some of the old Godzilla movies on COMET over the past year. It’s my “go to” channel when there is nothing interesting on network television. Or I’ll watch it on my computer when my husband is watching football.

COMET has some great movies and series airing this month that you might want to check out.

 Space: 1999 (series)
Space: 1999 officially crash landed on COMET! The residents of Moonbase Alpha were just minding their own business when the nuclear waste stored there suddenly exploded, causing the moon to hurtle into space. After passing through a black hole and a couple random “Space Warps,” you begin to wonder, is there a mysterious force guiding them?

In September, look out for back-to-back episodes on Saturday and Sunday evenings starting at 10/9 C.

Godzilla wanted to move to Saturdays. We said OK! Through September, catch the mega monster films that rocked the planet and featured Godzilla going head to head with his infamous foes. Destruction begins Saturday, September 8 with Rebirth of Mothra and Rebrith of Mothra II.

Catch Godzilla Double Features on Saturday, Sept 8 starting at 2/1 C.
Saturday, Sept 15, 22 and 29th starting at 1/NOON C.

Q (1982)
Aztec Gods? Female Lizards? And a takeover of New York’s famed Chrysler Building? What’s a New Yorker to do? Rely on a criminal who has dreams of being a jazz pianist to find the creature’s lair and blackmail the city for directions! What, those aren’t on the subway map?

Dr. Who and the Daleks (1965)
Dr. Who heads to the big screen and in color! After accidentally being transported to another planet Dr. Who and his friends come across a vial of drugs and head to a nearby city to investigate and find missing components of their Tardis. Say no to drugs kids! They come across the Daleks who take the components all while the good Doctor and his group suffer from radiation sickness! What can cure them? The mystery drugs they found… But an evil Dalek plot threatens the group and everyone who opposes the evil cyborgs!

Dr. Who: Daleks Invasion Earth 2150 A.D. (1966)
Peter Cushing stars in the role of Dr. Who and he discovers, after traveling to the future, that the Daleks have taken over the Earth! A band of resistance fighters are trying to stop the attack but everyone is brainwashed!

Remember, COMET is FREE to watch and enjoy. You can catch it live any time from you computer, phone, and television.

Check out COMET online at COMETtv.com. You can also find COMET on social media (all of their links are at the top right of their homepage). You can also find COMET on Roku and in the Apple Store (as an app).

There is another fun channel you might be interested in checking out. It’s called CHARGE! Like COMET, CHARGE! is free to watch online and check to see if it’s available in your local area.

CHARGE! offers viewers action-packed movies, series and sports entertainment. Watch action stars, every-day heroes and insane athletes engaged in battles, chases, showdowns and so much more.

Airing on CHARGE! in September.

Yo Adrian! Catch up on Rocky I-V all month in September on CHARGE! There’s a double dose of boxing goodness every Thursday. Watch the blood, sweat and tears as Rocky battle foe after foe and continually forges on against all odds! He clearly has the Eye of the Tiger! Get pumped and watch the first five films in the Rocky saga and relive all the action, guts and glory!

Then catch a Rocky Double Feature every Thursday after that starting at 2/1 C and 8/7 C.

My husband is a huge Rocky fan. He is excited to watch the Rocky movies on CHARGE! We have them on Blu-ray/DVD but sometimes he’s too lazy to dig them out (LOL) and fight with our player to watch them on television (or play is “moody” and doesn’t always want to work for us). Watching online is so much easier.

Other great CHARGE! entertainment includes CHIPS, The Avengers, Ring of Honor Wrestling and so much more.

To learn more about CHARGE! visit WatchCharge.com. You can also check them out on Facebook and Twitter.

To get you excited about all the amazing content available on both channels, I have a fun giveaway. One lucky winner will receive…

Tra-La-Laaaa! The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants coming to Netflix on July 13, 2018

*This post is sponsored by Dreamworks Animation.*

Are you a fan of Captain Underpants? We’re fans. We’ve been fans ever since my kids read the Captain Underpants books when they were younger.

If you are unfamiliar with the book series, here is a brief synopsis.

George Beard and Harold Hutchins are two best buds who share a love of comic books and practical jokes – and a strong dislike for their cranky, fun-hating school principal, Mr. Krupp. When their over-the-top pranks get out of hand, the boys unleash their creative superpowers by transforming Krupp into the bumbling, briefs-baring superhero, Captain Underpants! The future of Jerome Horwitz Elementary is always in jeopardy, and it’s up to two prank-loving fourth graders and one goofy caped crusader to save it. What could possibly go wrong?

Trust me, a lot can go wrong. LOL!

Honestly, I thought it was an odd concept to have a superhero that wore only underpants, but after reading one of the books that our son had taken out of the library, I could see why the kids enjoyed the book series.

My husband and I went to see Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie when it was in theaters. We thought we would be the only adults there without young children in tow, but we were not. There were other adults in the theater without kids. I guess a lot of people, both young and old, are fans of the unmasked and undressed superhero.

Netflix is premiering the original series, Dreamworks The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants, on July 13, 2018.

From Peabody Award and Emmy-winning executive producer Peter Hastings, the series is based on the epic novels by Dav Pilkey that have sold more than 70 million copies worldwide. Pilkey himself has praised the show saying “I binge-watched all of the episodes in one afternoon…I couldn’t help myself. Peter Hastings has totally captured the craziness and heart of the Captain Underpants multiverse and I hope everybody will love the show as much as I do.  Kids have been asking for more Captain Underpants books for years, and to me it feels like we are getting brand-new books— except they’re animated!

Cool! I can’t wait to check it out when it premieres in a few days. This might be another binge-worthy series I’ll be watching on Netflix this summer (Netflix is GREAT for binge-worthy television).

Check out the opening credits.

Dreamworks The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants features the voice talents of;

  • Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings, “Stranger Things”) as The Narrator
  • Nat Faxon (“Ben and Kate”, “Married”) as Captain Underpants/Mr. Krupp
  • Jay Gragnani (“Bubble Guppies”) as George Beard
  • Ramone Hamilton (“Will & Grace”) as Harold Hutchins
  • David Koechner (Anchorman) as Mr. Meaner
  • Tress MacNeille (“The Simpsons”, “VeggieTales in the House”) as Ms. Hurd
  • Laraine Newman (“DreamWorks Trollhunters”)as Ms. Tara Ribble
  • Stephen Root (“Barry”, “King of the Hill”) as Mr. Morty Fyde
  • Jorge Diaz (“Elena of Avalor”) as Melvin Sneedly
  • Mindy Sterling (Austin Powers) as Melvin’s mom
  • Erica Lutrell (“Salvation”, “Steven Universe”) as Erica Wang
  • Dayci Brookshire (“Home Adventures with Tip & Oh”) as Jessica Gordon
  • Evan Kishiyama (“Mickey and the Roadster Racers”) as Steve “Gooch” Yamaguchi

I received a fun little Captain Underpants package from the studio to get me and my family excited about the new series, as if I needed another reason to be excited about the series (I already am excited – I think the stories are hysterical and the characters are charming).

The package included a super cute drawstring bag and a Dreamworks The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants Wedgie Power Guidebook. The guidebook is a fun read, much like the Captain Underpants books.

In addition, I also received a DIY kit to make Harold and George sock puppets. The only thing missing is a hot glue gun to attach the pieces. I do have a hot glue gun, but it doesn’t work well, so I either need to sew the pieces on (which I can do) or look for fabric glue. I can’t wait to make them! They are going to look adorable!

Instructions to make George with the instructions for Harold on the back. You can see the socks and other materials needed to make the puppets. I can’t wait to make them!

Are you exited about Dreamworks The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants?

Are you going to check the series out when it premiere on July 13, 2018?

Feel free to share your thoughts. I always love to hear from readers.

*I received a free DIY mailer kit from Dreamworks. Thanks Dreamworks! There was no compensation. The opinions expressed are my own and not influenced in any way.

Have a “Monster” Summer with COMET TV (giveaway ends on 6/16/18)

Now that summer is “un-officially” here, and the official start to summer just days away, it’s time to start thinking about all we want to do this summer for fun and enjoyment.

Many people go away on vacation with their families and friends. Sadly, my family and I don’t get to do things like that. We can’t afford it so we just do day trips and “staycations.”

I don’t work during the summer. I work in a school and I’m off all summer (yeah me!). I’m perfectly OK closing the curtains, cranking the AC and binge watching my favorite shows and catching up on movies I have been anxious to watch.

If you are planning on hanging out at home a lot this summer, you might want to check out what COMET TV is offering viewers. Let’s just say it’s going to be a “monster” of a summer.

If you have never heard of COMET TV before, it’s a new television channel that is dedicated to sci-fi entertainment. They offer popular favorites, cult classics, and undiscovered gems.

COMET is available in many locations across the country. You can check on it’s availability on their website. Don’t worry if COMET is not available near you. You can still access it via ROKU, Apple TV or you can simply stream it live on your computer. I’m able to access it from my computer and our other devices (we have ROKU in the bedroom and Apple TV in the living room).

Actually, COMET TV’s monster summer already started. But that is OK. You have the entire summer to enjoy fun monster flicks.

Here is their line up.

Of course COMET offers more programming. These are just the fun monster flicks they are showing throughout the summer.

To get you excited about the “Monster Summer,” I have a fun COMET TV giveaway. The lucky winner will receive the following goodies. I also received the prize package in exchange for my participation and LOVE the beach towel. I even blew up the beach ball which my family and I have been kicking around the living room.

1 – Limited Edition Monster Summer Beach Towel: Only available via this promotion, catch Godzilla having a blast with one of two designs. You’ll be the envy of your friends and have some extra protection if a monster comes from the depths to destroy the planet. Score!

1 – COMET TV Monster Summer SPF Pouch: Beat the rays with this Monster Summer SPF pouch. Apply liberally to ward off the sun, The Beast from the Haunted Cave, Rodan or any other variety of lizard-like beast.

1- COMET TV Cooler: Listen, even Godzilla needs a place to keep his brews chill. Let’s be honest, he needs to beat the heat at some point. I can see him carrying this cool-as-fire bag around to crack open a cold one.

1 – COMET TV Monster Summer Beach-Tastic Ball: Are you a ball-er? I hope so, cause you need to grab some buds, jump in the pool and play with this Godzilla Monster Summer Beach Ball. Groovy!

2 – Exclusive COMET TV Film Cards: See what COMET TV has this month, with these collector’s cards. Perfect for the Godzilla fan, the Monster-man, or the COMET TV junkie if your life!
