My family and I celebrate the Christmas holiday, but we do have many friends and relatives that celebrate Hanukkah (some even celebrate both).
I can’t believe that Hanukkah starts this Saturday night (November 28, 2021) and runs through December 6, 2021.
If you are not familiar with Hanukkah, it’s a wintertime holiday in Judaism, also known as the Jewish “festival of lights” based on lighting the eight Chanukah candles during the eight days of the festival.
Hanukkah and Chanukah are just two different ways of spelling the holiday.
During the Jewish holiday, there are several traditional foods that are enjoyed to celebrate the holiday, such and desserts such as Hanukkah sugar cookies, cupcake “menorahs,” traditional Hanukkah donuts and contemporary cakes.
This year, KAYCO, America’s largest source for on trend, gourmet-forward kosher products, is debuting two fun twists on the festive sugar cookie tradition with new cookie kits.
The two new kits are: the Manischewitz Ugly Sweater Chanukah Sugar Cookie Kit and the Manischewitz Ready to Decorate Pre-Baked Sugar Cookie Kit. The new kits join existing Chanukah products such as the Manischewitz Chanukah House Cookie Kit and the Manischewitz Donut Making Kit.
Mmm… now I’m craving sugar cookies and donuts.
Manischewitz Ugly Sweater Chanukah Sugar Cookie Kit.
The exciting offering has everything your family will need to create your Ugliest Sweater yet. The kit includes sugar cookie mix; traditional yellow and blue color powders; Chanukah sprinkle mix; three piping bags and a sweater cookie cutter. All you need is your sense of humor and creativity. The packages make 8 to 10 Ugly Sweater Cookies to share, gift or ‘just eat.’ They are available a SRP of $8.99.
Manischewitz Ready to Decorate Pre-Baked Sugar Cookie Kit.
For an activity anywhere in the house, this kit includes 12 pre-baked sugar cookies shaped in all the festive ornaments of the season including Stars of David, Dreidels, Wine Glasses and Menorahs. The package is complete with blue and silver glitter crystals; royal icing mix; blue and yellow color powders and three piping bags. Your kids, friends and family can show their Chanukah creativity, snacking all along the way. The package yields 12 Chanukah Sugar Cookies at a SRP of $9.99.
To be honest, you don’t have to celebrate Hanukkah to enjoy these cookie kits. The Ugly Sweater Kit especially would work for either holiday (Hanukkah or Christmas). The colored icing is traditional Hanukkah colors, but you could use any icing you might have handy.
I’m not good at baking, so I would always opt for a pre-made cookie. Decorating is a fun thing that entire family can do together.
I like that Manischewitz has also teamed up with PJ Library, the Jewish nonprofit program delivering 225,000+ books every month to children across North America, All the cookie kits contain a PJ Library subscription card so that families raising children with Jewish values and traditions can sign up to receive a free expertly curated, age-appropriate children’s book each month. I’m a mother, and I work with children. I whole-heartedly support anything that encourages a child to read. With too much technology these days, I think children are not reading as much as they used to when I was growing up. I read all the time. When I talk to my “work kids,” only TWO out of 21 children enjoy reading. That just makes me so sad. Video games is killing off a child’s desire to read.
If you are interested in either (or both) of these kits, or any other cookie kit from Manischewitz, you can find them at most leading supermarket chains, such as ACME, Shop Rite, Wegman’s, Stop & Shop, Kroger, Shaw’s and select Albertson’s. You can also find them online, such as Amazon.
Do you celebrate Hanukkah?
What do you think about these cookie kits? Would you like to pick up one for your family or friends? Feel free to comment and share your thoughts. I always love to hear from readers.
