I am the PROUD “mom” to six (yes, six) adopted cats. All of our cats have health issues, making for frequent vet visits and expensive medications (diabetes, severe asthma, blindness, arthritis, irritable bowel disease…), but I don’t regret adopting any of them. Take for example or former foster cat, Bella. She was a runt (her sister had to be put to sleep at 3 weeks old). We started to foster her when she was one day old and her entire body fit inside my hand. She’s a beautiful cat and there were people on a waiting list to adopt her, but in the end, we adopted her.
We also have a GIANT Goldfish and two cute dwarf African aquatic frogs (they weren’t adopted. We won the fish at the carnival and purchased the frogs).
We think back on that. Back then no one knew of her health issues. Had someone else adopted her, they might have had her put to sleep so as not to incur all the medical expenses. Or she could have ended up back in the shelter and spend weeks, months, years in a cage waiting for someone to adopt a “special needs” cat.
