Not too long ago I was watching a video (I think it was YouTube) where someone addressed why Asians have such flawless skin. This person said that it’s because skincare is taken very seriously, even at a very young age. This man said that children learn to use toner, moisturizer and sunscreen as young as five. I don’t necessarily buy that. It has a lot to do with genetics, but they do take their skincare seriously.
Personally, I wish I took my skincare seriously when I was younger. Not as young as five, but at least when I was a teen. When I think about all those times I went to bed with a full face of make up and not wearing sunscreen I cringe. In fact, I grew up in a time where people would slather their skin with baby oil and roast out in the sun like we were rotisserie chickens.
These days I am very particular as to what type of skincare products I feel like my face needs. I use a toner, Vitamin C, Vitamin C, retinol, moisturizer and sunscreen. I do introduce other products into my routine to see if they work better than something I am currently using. I also look for products that are made of natural ingredients and not filled with ingredients I can’t pronounce, let alone know what they are and what they are used for.
Recently I was introduced to the brand Cosmette.
/ käz-met / NOUN – “A made up word to describe that certain je ne sais quoi a woman possesses when she is empowered, embodied and in tune with herself and the infinite wisdom of the cosmos”
Here is a little more information about the brand’s products.
Cosmette Skincare is on a mission to create skincare to elevate mundane daily beauty routines into conscious, powerfully charged, rituals. Our formulas are guided by potent ingredients from nature and supported with clean clinical alternatives such as AHA’s, Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin C. All our formulas are tested for efficacy, dermatologist approved and Leaping Bunny certified. Touch, see, smell, feel the magic of Cosmette.
Cosmette currently has three products to help detox, hydrating and renewal. The brand sent me these products to review.
- Combination of 6 of rich hydrators
- Plumps and tightens skin
- Naturally brightens and evens
- Stimulates collagen production
- Protects moisture barrier
- Softens and moisturizes with a smooth touch
- Naturally fragranced with lavender, lemon and geranium
Hydration, hydration, hydration. Aside from making sure to wash your face daily, I cannot stress enough the importance of a good moisturizer. Moisturizers help to keep your skin from getting dry and flakey. If you wear make up you know that having dry and flakey skin makes applying make up difficult. It also makes your make up look horrible because it stands out on dry skin.
Hydrating your skin also helps to prevent it from feeling tight. Personally my skin often feels tight and taught after I wash my face. Using a moisturizer makes my skin feel (and look) so much better.
I normally use a water-based moisturizer on my face. This moisturizer is thicker and heavier than I am accustomed to. Honestly it took me a few times using it before I got used to it. Now it doesn’t bother me (I don’t even think about it).
So far, so good. I think this is a pretty good moisturizer. It does absorb fairly quick on your skin as long as you don’t put it on too thick. A little bit goes a long way, so you only need a tiny amount. Don’t forget your neck too.
It does make my skin soft to the touch.
I cannot comment on the collagen production (I have no way of confirming that), but any product that has a multi-purpose to it I’m all for. My usual moisturizer just moisturizes. It does not help with collagen production. Nor does it plump up my skin.
- Dissolves dirt and impurities
- Detoxifies the pores
- Minimizes irritation and reduces redness
- Calms reactive skin
- Protects the natural moisture barrier
- Naturally hydrates and softens
- Naturally fragranced with lavender, rose geranium
I am always “iffy” about applying any type of an oil-based product to my facial skin. I worry that it will clog my pores and make my skin look and feel greasy. That is not the case with this product.
This product reminds me of something you would get in a fancy spa. This is not a product you would use daily (you could if you wanted to). A couple of times per week is fine.
To use you need to apply a few drops to your skin. Work it into your skin using circular motions. Once applied, put a hot wash cloth over your face and let the “magic” happen. Once the cloth is cool, wipe away any remaining oil.
This can also be used as a spot treatment and not necessarily for your entire face.
I do often get redness on my cheeks. It’s not Rosacea (although one Dermatologist suspected I had it, my current Dermatologist doesn’t think I do). This oil treatment seems to help. I still have a blotch here and there, but nothing too major. The blotches are small in size (like a pimple, but not with a “head”).
My face does not feel greasy afterwards. It feels refreshed. It’s a nice little “me time” thing which only takes a few minutes since the wash cloth tends to cool down quickly.
- Minimize the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines
- Helps brighten and even skin tone
- Plumps skin by promoting collagen production
- Supports skin elasticity
- Helps decongest pores
- Soothes dryness
- Naturally fragranced
This product is something that you can easily add to your AM and PM routine. After you clean your face, warm a few drops of this oil in your hands, then apply to damp skin. You can use this on your face and neck (I always forget to take care of my neck and décolletage!).
Just like with the other oil, this oil absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave my skin feeling greasy.
It does have a faint rose scent. If you are worried about it being too “perfumy,” don’t worry. You don’t really smell the rose. I only smell it for a few seconds.
I cannot comment on minimizing the wrinkles and fine lines. I think I need to use it more than a few weeks to see the full benefits of this product.
Along with the moisturizer, my skin does feel soft and I have no issues with dryness. And just like with the Timeless Hydration product, I appreciate products that serve have multiple benefits. I like that is also helps to brighten and even out your skin tone, supports elasticity and unclogged pores.
Overall my experience with these products has been positive. I plan on using all three products until the jar/bottles are empty. I would consider purchasing their products on my own, especially the Dreamy Detox Oil.
