Do you believe in heaven? I do.
Death is something that scares me to the bone. Part of it is leaving behind my loved ones, and not able to care for and protect them. The other part of why I am scared is because who knows what happens once you die.
In my faith, we believe in heaven. We believe that when you die, your soul makes its way through the “pearly gates,” and that all the loved ones that have passed before you will be waiting for you with open arms. I truly want to believe that. I miss my mom and dad. I miss my aunts, uncles and cousins. I also didn’t get much time here on earth with my biological brother and his wife. I searched for him for nearly 30 years, and two years after I found him he died in a car accident along with his wife.
Best-selling author Lee Strobel wrote a book, The Case for Christ, and his thought provoking book, The Case for Heaven, has been turned into an inspiring documentary.
The film features eye-opening interviews with world renowned pastor Francis Chan, best-selling author John Burke, the late Evangelist Luis Palau and more.
“Viewers will be surprised, captivated and encouraged by ‘The Case for Heaven,’ a beautiful and compelling film. It will dispel many of their misconceptions about the afterlife. I’m thrilled with the enthusiastic reception the documentary has received so far – and I can’t wait for an even wider audience to experience it.” -Lee Strobel
The Case for Heaven is now airing on Pure Flix (PureFlix.com).
Here is the film’s official synopsis.
We all want to know what happens after we die. In The Case for Heaven, best-selling author and investigative journalist Lee Strobel explores the evidence for the afterlife in order to address man’s biggest fear: death. Inspired by his own brush with death, Strobel searches for answers to the most profound questions we all have, about heaven, hell, and Near-Death Experiences. Featuring interviews with experts and skeptics, The Case for Heaven will challenge, encourage and inspire as Strobel dares to probe the most important question. If there is a heaven, can we prove it?
We are curious by nature. Taking on the big questions about heaven, hell and the afterlife, The Case For Heaven—a documentary based on the best-selling book by Lee Strobel—invites you to carefully investigate the knowable and respond with faith to the unknowable.
I had the opportunity to screen the film. I watched it with my husband since he also is curious about what happens after we pass away. Just like me, he’s looking forward to being with his parents again some day, especially because his father passed away when he was just a young boy.
Mr. Strobel had a near death experience, which was interesting to hear about. I am always curious as to what people see and experience moments before their death, and what it’s like to come back from the brink of almost dying. It’s fascinating, and scary too.
One of the people interviewed in this film really stuck with me. His name is Howard Storm. He was an atheist who had a near-death experience. As his soul was leaving his body (he said it was like walking down a long hallway), he suddenly remembered the song “Jesus Loves Me” that he used to sing when he was a child. He asked Jesus to save him, and he came back to life.
The reason why this stuck with me is because I faithfully attended Sunday School (I went to Sunday School and youth programs up to the age of seventeen). “Jesus Loves Me” is a song that I catch myself singing from time to time. It reminds me of my childhood and it brings back fond memories of my friends at Sunday School. When I heard Mr. Storm mention that song, I got chills!

Normally I don’t like to talk about religion on my site (same applies to politics), however this film is really interesting and I think even people who might not consider themselves very religious, and non-Christians, might look at death and the afterlife in a whole new way. It does give you a lot of “food for thought.”
Even after watching the film, it still had me thinking about some of the experiences the people interviewed in the film had and I kept wondering what “my” experience will be like. I’m still scared, but maybe not as much as I used to be.
