Are you a fan of the How to Train Your Dragon movie and/or Netflix series? I work with kids, and I know some of them are fans of the movies (I never really asked them about the series). I even know adults who are fans of the franchise. My daughter, whose 22, really likes the dragon Toothless. She even has a plush version of Toothless on her bed.
Playmobil now has available a really cool How to Train Your Dragon set, featuring Toothless, Hiccup Haddock and a cute little baby dragon. This is based on the third movie in the franchise (How to Train Your Dragon III).
I’ve always been a fan of Playmobil toys. My husband was (and still is) a HUGE fan of the brand. He talks about how many sets he had as a kid that he played with all the time. He even comments on new sets that he sees, wishing he was a kid again so that he could play with them. He’d say things like “I’d beg my parents to buy that set for me.”
My kids has a few Playmobil sets when they were younger too. Sadly, the names of the specific ones they have escapes me, but I can visualize them playing with them. My daughter used to use the Playmobil people as “toddlers” for her Barbie dolls too.
I’ve reviewed some Playmobil sets over the years too. My absolute favorite was the Playmobil Pyramid Set. WOW! WOW! WOW! That set was amazing! I’ve linked to my review if you are interested in reading more about it. I ended up donating that set to where I worked after I was done with my review. I have since moved to a different school, so I am not sure what became of the set. I can only assume that they still play with it. It is a beautiful set. Even if you only set it up to display and never played with it, it’s still an amazing set.
I have reviewed other Playmobil sets. If you enter in the word Playmobil in the search box, all of those reviews will pop up.
I was sent to review the Hiccup and Toothless with Baby Dragon set (#70037).
PLAYMOBIL Hiccup and Toothless with Baby Dragon (70037): Hiccup and Toothless lead the dragons and inhabitants of Berk on a fight against Grimmel. With illuminating back spikes and fire-charged markings, Toothless goes on a new adventure to explore the hidden world, and Hiccup learns to be a leader even without his dragon. Set includes Hiccup, Toothless, blue fire darts, baby dragon, flame sword, helmet, and other accessories.
Available: February 2019 Age: 4+ MSRP: $39.99
I can tell you that this set is definitely for children over the age of four who won’t be tempted to put the small pieces in their mouths, just to be on the safe side. As with all types of sets like this, there are small parts and accessories. It’s the accessories that make the sets so much fun.
What I love (and appreciate) about many Playmobil sets is that there is not a lot to assemble. I personally hate having to put on stickers. I can never get them put on perfectly straight.
This set is pretty much ready to play with as soon as you open the box. You’ll have to snap on one of Toothless’ wings, and the wing of the baby dragon. You also have some options with Hiccup such as hair or helmet.
Not pictured is Toothless’ illuminating back spikes, which is really cool. He also comes with blue fire darts you can shoot from his mouth.
I neglected to take those photos. I have since donated the set to where I work, so I am unable to grab those photos. You can see the blue fire darts in one of the photos.
Overall I thin it’s a super cool set for a How to Train Your Dragon fan, or even fans of Playmobil and/or dragons.
This set is available on the Playmobil website. It will also be available for purchase at other retail locations.
Playmobil has other How to Train Your Dragon play sets worth checking out.
