Our bodies change as we age – it’s a simple reality of life. And as we age, some healthcare worries become a bit more frequent than others. When you were a young adult it didn’t matter if you had a back ache every now and then, but these days it could mean a permanent problem! So how should your approach to health change as the years go by? Let’s go through some common healthcare worries people aged 30 and over will need to keep in mind.
Chronic Joint and Muscle Pain
Chronic pain, of any kind, can be big trouble as you age. In your early 30s it’s easy to write off an ache here and there, but over the next couple of years you may notice these pains becoming permanent. It happens to us all, but for some it’s more severe than others! As such, you may need to start using heat and cool packs, as well as follow a daily stretching routine, to ensure your back, limbs, and joints stay just as healthy as you do.
Diabetes
Diabetes is a very common ailment as a person moves towards their 40s and 50s. Whether you develop Type 1 or 2, or you develop gestational diabetes during pregnancy, the effects on your body can be long lasting and very bad for your health.
You can lose the feeling in your feet, you can lose your sight, you can end up healing very slowly, and it’s often very difficult to gain control over your blood glucose levels. Preventing this disease from striking is something to be wary of over the next few years.
Losing Your Hearing
Your hearing tends to be the first sense you lose track of as you get older. Even when you’re only in your 30s, the way you spent your 20s can impact your current hearing ability! If you love loud music and concerts, or you’ve worked a noisy job for the past 10 years, you could already be living with the risks of hearing impairment. So, if you’ve not been since you were a young child, book in for a hearing test and see how you’re doing.
Developing Depression
Depression is the most common mental health ailment experienced by all age groups. However, people aged between 35 and 40 are the ones most diagnosed with it year by year. And this can be due to a variety of reasons, including age related anxiety. Stay aware of this; your mental wellbeing is just as important as your physical health, and as you age, this can fall by the wayside. Make a conscious effort to check in with yourself, conduct regular self care routines, and stay up to date on mental health treatments available in your area.
We all get older, and we all have health worries to face from time to time. Make sure you know what worries are likely to bounce around your head as the years go on; you can beat them!
