Do you have plans for New Year’s Eve? My husband and I, along with our son, don’t have any plans except to flick between the various television shows. Our daughter has her choice of parties to attend. We’re still waiting for her to decide which one.
My kids have been staying up past midnight on New Year’s Eve for many years now (they are both in high school). I do remember when they were younger telling them they could stay up late but they ended up falling asleep around 8 or 9 PM.
A recent survey from Wakefield Research, on behalf of Netflix, found that more than a third of U.S. parents (34%) admitted to starting a New Year’s Eve party early to fool their kids into thinking its midnight*, citing their kids or their own bedtime as the reason.
We’ve never faked our kids into thinking it was midnight, but we have had our New Year’s Eve celebration early so that they can enjoy it too. It wasn’t so much because of our bedtime but rather theirs. We didn’t want our kids to feel forced to stay awake and then end up tired and cranky the next day.
Are you familiar with King Julien? He’s the star of DreamWorks Animations All Hail King Julien on Netflix. He also stars in the Madagascar movies. He loves to party.
King Julien heard that 36% of parents surveyed would search for a countdown in a different time zone in order to celebrate earlier with their children and 22% would go as far as to stage a countdown of their own. I think celebrating the countdown from a different time zone is an ingenious idea. I wish I had thought about that when my kids were younger.
King Julien feels that kids have the right to party and celebrate the New Year. For this reason, King Julien will host his very own kid-sized countdown special on Netflix that families can use to ring in 2015 whenever they choose to celebrate.
The three minute, high-energy, music-filled fun that lets kids celebrate the New Year no matter the time of day. The countdown will be available in the U.S., Canada, Latin America, UK, Ireland, the Nordics, the Netherlands and France beginning on Dec. 29th at Netflix.com/KingJulien.
I was totally bummed when I heard that some of my favorite little party people arent allowed to stay up until midnight for the biggest party of the year, said King Julien, King of the Lemurs. But then I realized I’m a king, I make the rules! So move over, Ryan Seacrest, I’ve got my very own on-demand countdown party on Netflix. That means the New Years Eve party is always on – just how it should be! What better way to ring in Julien-uary?
King Julien’s new series, All Hail King Julien, launched on Netflix on December 19, 2014. The first five episodes of this original series is available for Netflix members to watch instantly. LOL~ it has been many years since I was even able to stay awake to bring in the New Year! I can remember that I would always call my parents to wish them a Happy New Year just after midnight. But I guess with age comes the need for more sleep. I think that King Julien looks hilarious. I wish you and your family all the best for a wonderful 2015.
