In case you didn’t already know it, the Christmas season is already here, even though it’s mid-November. Stores where I live have been decorated and selling Christmas items for WEEKS now. Sadly, people start too soon. Let’s enjoy one holiday at a time. We didn’t even finish consuming all the Halloween candy yet. Well… I have (ha ha), but most people haven’t.
Poor Thanksgiving… the forgot in-between holiday (I decorate for Thanksgiving).
I’ve been on the look out for those advent calendars for my adult children that have chocolate inside. I used to love gifting them the ones with toys and other surprises behind each “door,” but now that they are adults I have to settle on getting them the ones with chocolate inside. Not that they mind.
Growing up, my “advent calendar” was those paper chains where you ripped off a link each day counting down to Christmas. I WISH I had a real advent calendar.
If you love counting down to the holiday with your children, you should check out the fun advent calendars available from PLAYMOBIL. They have a variety of options that will sure to get your child excited to open a new door each day.
I was sent one of their new offerings this year to review. I received the brand’s Horses of Waterfall – Christmas Sleigh Ride Advent Calendar. I grew up around horses, so I have a great love and respect for the magnificent creatures. This is a beautiful set.
If your child loves horses, horse riding and animals, this is the set to have.
Each day your child can reveal a new piece for the play set. The advent comes with a cardboard play set where your child/grandchild can have hours of fun playing with, even long after Christmas is over. Best of all, all PLAYMOBIL pieces fit with other sets, so your child can continue to use the pieces with other PLAYMOBIL sets they might already own.
The Horses of Waterfall comes with Isabella, her Andalusian mare named Buttercup, her foal named Cream and her dog Lucy. There are also other forest animals, horse supplies and more!
The cardboard playset is 3D, which is a nice touch. PLAYMOBIL put great thought into the background for this set. Your child can have the piece play inside the stable (including the attic) and there is a tree they can hang ornaments from.
Setting up the backdrop was a bit tricky, but with my husband’s help we were able to figure it out. There are directions included, but it was still a little tricky. Trust me, it’s well worth the effort.
PLAYMOBIL thought of everything, from a carrot for the snowman’s nose, to footprints in the freshly fallen snow.
Let me provide you with a “tour” of all the pieces you’ll get with this set (notice the cute bunny above).
The first thing you’ll notice with the package is the back of the box where you can see the numbered “doors” that your child can open each day counting down to Christmas.
Unwrap what you find behind the “door” to reveal a new piece to the playset.
One of the pieces you’ll find is Lucy the dog. Lucy’s mouth can open and close. There is a bone you can “feed” to Lucy that she can hold in her mouth too.
No winter forest scene would be complete without some forest friends, including a family of foxes and a deer.
The background features a 3D Christmas tree. There are ornaments and bows that are found behind the doors that your child can use to decorate the tree.
PLAYMOBIL even included a snowy owl. I am obsessed with our ADORABLE the owl is.
Since it’s wintertime, Isabella needs a way to get “over the hills and through the woods” to Grandmother’s house (ha ha). This set comes with a sled that her horse can pull through the snow.
When Isabella and Buttercup are not riding through the woods, they hang out at the stable with Buttercup’s foal, Cream.
You can even put the horses inside the stable where they can be fed and brushed with included accessories.
PLAYMOBIL never ceases to amaze me with the great attention to detail they have with each and every set. Take for example this set. Not only did they include a nose for the snowman, they also included tiny critters to live in the attic such as a mouse, squirrel and bird.
They also included Christmas cookies Isabella can deliver to grandma (or whomever she wants). These are so tiny but oh-so-cute!
When your child has finished opening all the doors by Christmas, they will have a fun set they can enjoy playing with all winter long, and beyond.
I absolutely LOVE PLAYMOBIL play sets. If I were a child again I could see myself playing with this set for hours.
PLAYMOBIL sets are a great way to encourage imagination. I’m for any product that helps a child use their imagination. These days most kids rather mindlessly play video games. They are losing the art of creativity and imagination, and that breaks my heart.
