I know it’s only the beginning of November, but it’s hard not to notice that the holiday season is upon us. Some channels on television are already playing holiday movies (Hallmark), and we’ve already seen Elf, Christmas with the Kranks, Fred Claus and Four Christmases on television (we won’t watch them until after Thanksgiving). My daughter even told me that she’s been hearing Christmas music on the radio. Sheesh. Most people still have their Halloween decorations up.
I’m sure most people have already started their holiday shopping, or at the very least been thinking of some ideas for your friends and loved ones.
If you are looking for a fun way to help your child countdown to the big day, check out the new advent calendar available from PLAYMOBIL. This year’s theme is Christmas Market (#71472).
With the PLAYMOBIL Advent Calendar ‘Trip to the Christmas Market,’ the Advent season flies by. Behind each door, 24 loving PLAYMOBIL surprises await, creating a complete Christmas market in the children’s room by Christmas Eve. This special Advent calendar includes everything to recreate a visit to the Christkindlesmarkt at home: a booth with sweet treats, a Christmas tree, a standing table with mugs, a sack of gifts, a Santa Claus, and 3 other PLAYMOBIL figures. The beloved PLAYMOBIL Advent calendars have been sweetening the wait for Christmas for many years, all without chocolate. After the holiday, figures and accessories can easily be integrated into existing PLAYMOBIL worlds for fun adventures all year round! A perfect Advent gift for imaginative children aged 4 and up.
I was fortunate enough to be sent one of these calendars to check out for myself. As always, I was very impressed.
What makes the PLAYMOBIL advent calendars fun is that they come with a background that your child can use to as part of their imaginative play. The background found with this set has lovely snow covered village buildings and market stalls with people buying and selling goodies. There is also an ice pond for your PLAYMOBIL people to skate on.
The background comes together simply by bending sections and inserting tabs into one another. You can take it apart and lie it flat to use next holiday season (if you wish). I taped mine together because I brought it to work for my “work kids” to enjoy and I didn’t want any of the kids to take it apart.
The main box features numbered “doors.” Behind each door is a piece (or pieces) that can be used as part of this set (people, animals, accessories…). Each piece (or pieces) come in a plastic bag.
This set has a European feel to it, right down to hand lanterns that the people can “purchase” and hold in their hands.
Here are some random photos from this set.
Santa pulling a sled with a gift for a special someone.
This set comes with people wearing ice skates as well as a hockey stick and hockey puck.
Various woodland creatures.
It’s hard to tell from the photo, but the boy is holding an elf doll.
The gingerbread cookies can be worn around the neck (I’m not sure why).
Market stall where you can purchase “sacks” of food, cookies and hand lanterns.
Hot chocolate anyone?
The Christmas tree in the background also comes with this set.
A bench, a bird, and a very hungry cat. Or maybe he wants to make friends with the little birdie?
PLAYMOBIL always impresses me with the detail they put into their toys. Just look at those adorable, decorated cookies.
A mom teaching her child how to skate… just one of the many ways you can play with this fun set.
A mom and her child enjoying a hot cup of cocoa after a long day of shopping and skating.
Santa holding one of the hand lanterns.
This set is available now on the PLAYMOBIL website. You’ll want to get your hands on one before the official countdown to Christmas is upon us. It can be a “pre-Christmas gift” for your child, grandchild or a special little someone in your life.
Don’t forget to check out other PLAYMOBIL sets. You can even purchase smaller sets that are great stocking stuffers. Here are just two examples.
