Growing up I didn’t have an advent calendar to countdown the days to Christmas. Instead, we made paper chains and each day we would rip off a link and count how many were left, so we knew how many days it would be until Santa was to arrive.
Fast forward to when my kids were little. I used to buy them (each) those advent calendars with the little piece of chocolate behind each “door.” Every day they would open up one door, enjoy the chocolate and count how many “doors” (days) were left until Santa’s arrival.
That worked well when they were little. The older they got the less they used the calendar for it’s intended purpose. Instead they would just eat the chocolate. My daughter would especially eat all the chocolate in a day or two after I gave her the calendar.
My kids are young adults now, so I don’t buy them the calendars anymore.
Advent calendars have come a long way since my kids were little. Instead of chocolate or a sugary treat, you’ll find toys and more behind each door.
Playmobil was kind enough to send me an advent calendar to check out.
Last year I received one of their advent calendars to check out. I loved it! I brought it to where I work when I was done with my review, and my “work kids” loved it. They had a lot of fun playing with it and making up stories to act out with it. I loved seeing their imaginations come to life.

Last year’s Playmobil advent calendar.
You can read that review here – Countdown to Christmas with Playmobil.
As much as I love last year’s advent calendar (look out adorable the characters are!), I think this year’s advent calendar is even BETTER!

Setting up the diorama was easy. It looks really nice once it’s put together.
Most of the accessories were easy enough to put together. A few required you to add stickers, but they weren’t that hard. I have chubby fingers, so I have a wee bit of a hard time with a few things, but my husband was able to help me.
Here are some photos I took of the set. The photos do not do this set justice. It’s SO COOL in person!
I put the “mom” in the chair instead of Santa. She was tired from shopping with her son (next to her) because he wants ALL the toys and he’s having too much fun playing around and poor mom is exhausted from a marathon shopping spree and needs to get off her feet for a bit. Ha Ha.
There a few pieces not pictured, compliments of our cats. Small toys and cats are not a good combination. A few pieces got knocked off the table and end up under the table, under the couch, under the television… you get the idea.
This is a fun set that will let your child’s imagination run wild. They can “act out kids meeting Santa to tell him thie wish list, people shopping for holiday gifts (toys) for their family, and so much more.
Having the diorama of the toy store REALLY adds to this wonderful set. I am thrilled that Playmobil did that.
This set would make a GREAT pre-Christmas gift for your child or grandchild. Not only can they count down to Christmas, but they also get a lot of fun toys they can play with each day.
This set works with other Playmobil pieces, so you can add more children, adults, toys or anything else you would like to add to this set.

This Christmas Store Advent Calendar with the Playmobil theme is terrific. I never saw this before. My older nephew and his son would really get a kick out of this!
