My family and I try and be as conscious about the environment as we can. We try and do things here and there to be more kind to our planet. From recycling and repurposing/reusing, to saving electricity, driving less and other things here and there.
One big thing that many people should think about is single use plastic products. By single use I mean after you are done with it you toss out it. Often many of these products cannot be recycled. Instead they’ll sit in landfills taking decades, or even hundreds of years, to breakdown. All that plastic also goes into the soil, creating even more problems.
Don’t even get me started on the state of Texas sized “island” in the Pacific Ocean that is made of garbage. It’s not only hurting our ocean and environment, but also the creatures that call the ocean it’s home.
I love when companies reimagine their products to be not only better for you, but also better for our planet.
I was recently introduced to a company who has both you and the environment in mind. Let me introduce you to Vida Bars.
Vid a Bars are shampoo and conditioner bars that are formulated without sulfates, silicones, parabens, artificial fragrances and phthalates. They are are handcrafted right here in the USA with natural ingredients. In addition, Vida Bars come in a recyclable cardboard box. Vida Bars are salon-quality formulated and environmentally friendly. It’s a win-win!
I was sent some Vida Bar products to review. I received to review a shampoo, conditioner and leave-in conditioner. The photos (below) I took after one use. I neglected to take a photo of them before I used them for the first time. I was too excited to try them out that I forgot about the pictures.
The first photo (above) is the boxes. The second photo is the shampoo and conditioner. As you can see they are shaped differently. As for the leave-in conditioner, it’s a darker color. The shape and color differences helps you to tell which is which.
Vida Bars come in small boxes. When you open the box you’ll see what resembles a bar of soap, but it’s really a bar of shampoo (or conditioner, depending on the product).
It’s hard to believe at first that a Vida Bar is something you wash and condition your hair with. It took me a while to get it out of my mind that they weren’t soap. Regular soap would do a number on my hair, that is for sure.
You would think by looking at them that you’d get a few uses out of them and they would be gone. That is not the case at all. In fact, they last longer than a bar of soap would. You get up to 65 uses per Vida Bar, which is about the equivalent of 2-3 bottles of traditional shampoo. This makes Vida Bars a great value for long-lasting hair care.
Vida Bars also take up less space in your shower and closet.
I was concerned I would mix up the shampoo and conditioner, as well as the leave-in conditioner, but they are shaped and colored differently so you know which product you are using.
Vida Bars are super easy to use.
Above are the directions on how to use both the shampoo and conditioner Vida Bars. The leave-in conditioner is different because you apply to the length of your hair and you don’t rinse it out. Otherwise the leave-in conditioner is equally as easy to use as the shampoo and conditioner.
Vida Bars are available in different types depending on what you are looking for – clarity, balance, soothe, growth, hydrate or one called Reyna. Check out the descriptions of each to find out what shampoo and conditioner is best for you and your hair needs. There is only one type of leave-in conditioner.
There is a quiz you can take on the brand’s website to find the right shampoo and conditioner for you as well.
Vida Bars are also available in shampoo and conditioner sets. If you purchase the sets you can save $4.00.
As for the shampoo and conditioner. I was worried I wasn’t going to be able to rinse the products out of my hair well (I kept thinking they were like regular soap), but that was not the case at all. I have had no issues using them. It took a few times to get used to using them and not bottled shampoo and conditioner, but now it’s like second nature to me. Easy peasy!
I have somewhat thick (although I lose hair by the handful) and course hair. My hair is also naturally wavy. I think what I was sent works well as far as leaving my hair feeling clean and soft. I haven’t even had many issues with knots, which is a bonus. So far I have no seen any growth, but I am sure time will tell. Hair naturally grows slowly anyway.
The leave-in conditioner didn’t work for my hair. I didn’t like it, personally. I gave it to my daughter, and she’s been using it. She has very thick hair, but it’s not course like mine. She tells me that she has no issues with it. It works fine for her. I guess that product works better on some hair types than others.
The leave-in conditioner has 55 almost 5 star reviews on it’s website. One of the one star reviews mentions that the person has course hair too. So many this isn’t necessarily the best product for course hair.
