Are you family with pizzelles? Just in case you are not familiar with them (or maybe you’ve seen them but don’t know what they are called).
A pizzelle is an “old world” traditional cookie. The Italian waffle cookie gets its name “pizzelle”, which is the plural of “pizzella”, from the Italian word, “pizze”, meaning round and flat. It is believed to have first been developed in central Italy to honor annual celebrations in ancient times. The two holidays which the pizzelle is commonly used are Christmas and Easter.
The embossing on the cookies can vary. Sometimes they are embossed with a family’s crest, or another symbol with important significance.
I am a fan of these cookies. I like that they are light and crispy. They go great with a cup of tea or coffee. I also eat them “as is.”
I usually purchase my pizzelles from one of the big box stores. They are usually only available in vanilla, but occasionally they have other flavors, such as pumpkin spice and anise.
If you are fan of these cookies, you should know about the brand Just Pizzelles. As you might have guessed, Just Pizzelles ONLY sells pizzelles. But that is a good thing. By offering one type of product, they have perfected their recipes to provide consumers with the best of the best.
Believe it or not, Just Pizzelles carries over fifty (50) different flavors and varieties of this scrumptious cookie. FIFTY! They have flavors such as;
- Amaretto Sour
- Apple Butter
- Banana
- Black Forest
- Bubble Gum
- Buffalo Wing
- Buttered Popcorn
- Chocolate Chip
- Fireball
- Grape
- Pumpkin Pie
- White Chocolate Cranberry
And these are just SOME of the amazing and outrageous flavors.
The brand sells a variety of packages for consumers. They also have corporate gifts and you can pick up cookie trays if you live local to them (they are located in Courtland, Ohio).
Some of the packages Just Pizzelles offers that you can have shipped fresh straight to your door include;
- Variety Package
- Baker’s Dozen
- Advent Calendar
- Limited Edition Flavors
And a sample pack, jut to name a few.
With all these interesting and unique flavors, I’m sure some might be wondering how they taste.
The brand was kind enough to send me a box filled with a variety of pizzelle flavors.
Let me tell you, these cookies are DELICIOUS! They blow the kind I get from the big box store out of the water! There is a lot to say about things make with love, fresh, and in small quantities compared to things that are mass produced by machines. There is clearly a noticeable difference. Don’t get me wrong, the ones from the big box store are fine, but once you taste ones that are freshly made, it makes you not want to take a huge leap backwards and go back to eating the store bought ones.
Some of my favorites from the lovely assortment I received to review are the Chocolate Pecan Pie, Cranberry, Pumpkin Roll, pralines and cream and Cornbread (yes, cornbread flavored pizzelles!). Seriously, I loved all the flavors. These are just some of them that stood out to me.
Some of the pizzelles were “plain” like they normally look (just flavored), and some had ingredients mixed into them. There are some that are coated and some that are drizzled with chocolate. There is such a great variety of flavors.
Not only would these be great to order for yourself, but they would also make great gifts. It’s a fun way for others not familiar with pizzelles to learn more about them. You can even work with the brand for fundraising opportunities. I would rather purchase a package of freshly made pizzelles over another roll of wrapping paper.
These would also be great to serve to guests at a party, or even give them out as wedding favors (choose a flavor that would suit your wedding theme).
The prices are reasonable too.
