Do you find that you take a lot of photos with your smartphone? Are you a star on Instagram? Do you often snap “selfies” of yourself or with friends? If so, your photos can help make a difference in someone’s life.
Donate a Photo is a FREE app that helps make a difference by raising awareness and funds for various causes and charities. With just one simple photo YOU can help make a difference in someone’s life.
Donate a Photo is from Johnson & Johnson Services, Inc. The same people that bring you amazing products like J&J Baby Powder (my favorite), Aveeno, Neutrogena, Band Aid, Ben Gay, Listerine, Tylenol and Visine, to name a few.
Donate a Photo is so simply to use. First you need to download the FREE app (found where ever you download apps – it’s available for both iOS and Android platforms). Once downloaded and you set up an account (it’s very simple to do and it doesn’t require much information). Once the app is in place and your account is set up you are ready to start making a difference.
To use simply click on the “Donate” button found at the bottom of the screen. There you will be able to read a brief description about several causes that are available. When you decide on which one you want to help click on it.
On the next page you can snap a picture, or upload one you have already taken. Then just follow the directions to type in a description and share the photo on your social networking sites (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter). If possible please encourage your followers, friends and family to do the same. The more people who donate a photo via the app the more money will be donated towards amazing charities and causes.
For each photo that is uploaded and shared Johnson & Johnson will donate $1.00 to the cause of your choice (the one you selected).
You can see photos that others have donated by checking out the hashtags #DonateaPhoto, #JNJ and/or #SelflessSelfie.
By donating a photo you are not GIVING the photo to the charity (another words you are not giving them the photo to do whatever they want with it) you are simply uploading it to the gallery and a monetary donation will be made to the charity you selected from Johnson & Johnson.
The causes are on a rotating list, so that everyone gets a fair chance at earning some money through donated photos. On July 28, 2013 three new causes were added;
PFLAG: All funds donated through the DAP PFLAG cause go to provide materials (brochures, flyers etc.) for anti-bullying sessions. These sessions reach students, teachers and school leaders with messages about cultivating respect and keeping schools safe for all.
Girl Up: All funds donated through the DAP Girl Up cause help provide outreach efforts to girls, parents and community leaders, provide literacy, numeracy and livelihood training to out of school girls, and helps establish local PTAs to champion girls’ education in Liberia. These efforts help girls return to and stay in school, often after years of absence.
Safe Kids: The Safe Kids Safe Roads initiative aims to teach children and parents about bike helmet and car seat safety. The program achieves these goals both through in-school sessions, as well as through awareness efforts via online promotions and social media.
Johnson & Johnson has curated a list of trusted causes, and you can donate a photo to one cause, once a day. Each cause will appear in the app until it reaches its goal, or the donation period ends. If the goal isn’t reached, the cause will still get a minimum donation.
Once a cause reaches it’s goal it is replace by another cause so that everyone has a fair chance of being supported by the Donate a Photo application. Even after a cause has reached it’s goal it remains on the app so that consumers can learn more about the organizations that were helped by this amazing initiative.
You can donate a photo EVERY DAY (limit one photo/donation per day). I would have done it for 5 days in a row but we have company this week and after running all over the place with three teenagers I was too exhausted to think yesterday evening, let alone much else. However I do make it a point to donate a photo every day. It’s so easy to do and I love that it benefits others.
The donations are only available through the application, however the photos that were donated (including a photo gallery, progress achieved for each non-profit partner, etc.) can be seen by anyone, on any device (computers, phones, tablets…).
Johnson & Johnson wants to encourage consumers to do good and live well, that is why they introduced Donate a Photo against the blackdrop of their quarterly Johnson & Johnson Family of Consumer Companies HEALTHY ESSENTIALS™ promotion this past April 2013. This wonderful coupon program (HEALTHY ESSENTIALS™) helps families to stock up on the products they use every day.
