Now available on all viewing platforms (Blu-ray, DVD, Ultra 4K and digital) is the sequel to the epic film Dune, appropriately called Dune: Part Two.
Dune: Part Two stars Timothée Chalame, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, Josh Brolin, Christopher Walken, Oscar Isaac, Stellan Skarsgård, David Bautista, and Javier Bardem. As you can see, this film has an all-star cast.
Dune: Part Two is directed by three-time Academy Award nominee Denis Villeneuve (“Arrival,” “Blade Runner 2049”) from a screenplay he and Jon Spaihts wrote, based on the seminal bestselling novel of the same name written by Frank Herbert.
Normally I try and write my own movie synopsis, however, there is a lot to “unpack” with this monumental film – in a good way! Well, that and I don’t know how to properly spell places and people. For this reason, I’ll stick with the official synopsis.
Dune: Part Two explores the mythic journey of Paul Atreides (Chalame) as he unites with Chani (Zendaya) and the Fremen while on a path of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.
If you have seen the first film (2021), you know what you can expect as far as the amazing and jaw dropping cinematography. The 1984 version of the film Dune (staring singer Sting from the Police) can’t hold a candle to the updated versions.
I looked it up. The principal photography in this film was filmed in Budapest, Italy, Jordan, and Abu Dhabi. It’s hard to believe that what is seen in the film truly does exist, with the exception of the horrific looking monstrous sandworms. Even the fighting machines and weapons used in the film are so impressive. I would love know the budget for this film. There must have been a lot of zeros at the end – and it shows.
I think this film (Part Two) was more elaborate than it’s predecessor.
I love that this film has so much to offer. It is a sci-fi action film (think Star Wars)? Is it a love story? It is a story about destiny? Friendship? Family? This film can touch upon all these things.
Chalame and Zendaya continue to impress me with their acting skills. I feel like they were made to play these roles. To be honest, when I think of Timothée Chalame and Zendaya, I used to think about the original Dune (2021), not other films they have been in. I am going to include Dune: Part Two with the original film too. I think their portrayal of their characters in these films are the highlight to their careers.
My husband is a fan of Florence Pugh. He was excited to see her in this film. She plays the role of Princess Irulan. She’s another one who didn’t fail to impress. She’s a very versatile actress.
Sometimes you don’t necessarily need to see the first part of a film to understand the sequels. In this case I would recommend seeing the original Dune (2021) first so that this film makes more sense to you. You can still enjoy it without seeing the first film, but I feel like knowing the characters and their backstories will make this film more enjoyable for you. Dune (2021) is available for viewing on my streaming services (Amazon Prime, Max, Apple TV, Google Play, Hulu…).
I watched the digital version of the film. If you purchase the Blu-ray, DVD or Ultra 4K version of the film, there are a plethora of bonus features you can check out.
