I used to love to go camping with my cousins, aunt and uncle. We’d go camping every summer. We’d almost “rough it.” We slept in tents and cooked over an open fire. The only convenience we had was a restroom and shower. Some campgrounds we stayed at even had a general store and game room. Okay… so it wasn’t truly roughing it like you would out in the middle of nowhere, but it was close enough.
I miss camping. I haven’t been camping in about 30 years (give or take). Sigh…
One of my favorite things to do was roasting marshmallows over the open flame to make S’mores. Nothing beats a freshly made S’more, especially with slightly burnt marshmallows. Yum! I still remember eating the marshmallows directly off the stick too. In fact, we roasted them on sticks we found in the woods. It was fun to find that “perfect” stick.
Living in a small condo with no yard, is not the ideal situation for an open fire to make S’mores, or simply to enjoy the flickering flames with family and friends (watching flames is so relaxing). We have a 6′ x 12′ balcony. That is our “yard.” We’re not allowed to have barbecues (as per the Fire Marshal), so a fire pit is out of the question. Or is it?
Let me introduce you to City Bonfires. City Bonfires makes portable fire pits you can take with you just about anywhere.
City Bonfires Portable Fire Pits are weigh only one pound, and are 4″ and just shy of 3″ in size, making them the perfect size to tuck into a backpack, luggage, tote bag, picnic basket or just about anywhere.
These ideal portable fire pits are made right here in the USA out of 100% non-toxic FDA food grade soy wax.
Best of all, these portable fire pits are reusable. They have a burn time of 3-5 hours (depending on the environment they are being used in).
I was sent a fire pit to review. Even better, I received the City Bonfires+ S’mores Kit to review.
This kit comes with one portable fire pit, four large marshmallows, eight graham crackers and one chocolate bar. There was just enough for my family of four to enjoy a s’mores each. In addition, the kit contained small sticks to put the marshmallows on to roast them, as well as a small lighter to ignite the bonfire. You’ll have all you need to start roasting some marshmallows and making some delicious s’mores straight out of the box.
When you open up the lid to the bonfire you’ll see four sections, each with it’s own wick. You’ll have to light all four of them to get maximum heat to melt the marshmallows. I suppose if you wanted to conserve the bonfire you could just light two of the four sections.
The flames grow to a decent size too.
If you are done enjoying the bonfire, you can extinguish it simply by putting the lid on top (be careful not to burn yourself on the flame).
City Bonfires has several kits to choose from including family size kits, a hot chocolate kit, a peppermint s’mores kit (which sounds yummy!) and several other kits. You can also just purchase the fire pits with out any extras.
You can even get these personalized. These would make great party and wedding favors.
These are great to have on hand in case your power goes out, since you can use them to heat up food. These are also great to take with you when you go camping or hiking.
I personally think these might be great to keep in your car. Heaven forbid you find yourself stranded on the side of the road, you could use one of these as a heat and cooking source.
I love this idea. I’d love to get a few more for our balcony, so that we can enjoy the fire pit experience without the need of a traditional firepit (which we have no room or yard for).
