Do you like chickpeas? Not many people do, however, I know a lot of people who love hummus. If you are a hummus loving person, then you eat chickpeas. Chickpeas is the main ingredient in hummus.
Sometimes chickpeas are referred to as garbanzo beans. They are common names for the same bean (legume).
When my kids were little (toddlers) I started feeding them chickpeas. I honestly don’t remember the reason why. I guess I read something positive about them and opted to feed them to my children.
They LOVED chickpeas, and still do. In fact, they would take them to school with them as part of their lunch (snack). I would just open up a can, rinse them out and put them in a container. No cooking or warming up necessary.
Chickpeas can be used in cooking. You can also roast them in the oven for a crunchy treat.
Did you know that chickpeas are naturally high in protein, non-GMO, vegan, gluten-free, and free from the top 14 allergens, not to mention they are tasty (of course!).
If you love chickpeas and/or if you love to snack, let me introduce you to Pulse Power.
Fuel your next adventure with Pulse Power Snacks—delicious, protein-packed Stix and Spreads made from simple, plant-based ingredients. Whether you’re packing for the beach, heading on a camping trip, or just need a midday pick-me-up, Pulse Power is the go-to for healthy, satisfying snacking.
Made from over 90% pure chickpea flour with only three ingredients, the Stix (Sea Salt, Sweet Chili, Tangy BBQ) and Chickpea Spreads (Original Butter and Chocolate) deliver bold flavor with half the sugar of typical spreads.
Co-founded by a pediatric endocrinologist and her father with 50+ years of agricultural experience, this family-run brand is committed to building a better future—donating 10% of proceeds to pediatric and obesity research.
I was sent some Pulse Power products to check out for myself. I received their Stix in box the sharing size and snack size bags. I also received a jar of their butter spread and chocolate spread.
My husband won’t eat chickpeas or hummus at all. He thinks they look gross, therefore he won’t try them.
I had my husband try the Tangy BBQ Pulse Power Stix and he loved them. I made sure not to tell them what they were made of. After he tried a few mouthfuls I asked him what he thought they were made from. Initially he looked a bit shocked because I’m sure he was expecting me to say something wild and crazy. He was actually relieved to learn they were made out of chickpeas. He became hesitant for a moment to eat anymore of them, but he eventually gave in and continued to eat them.
I guess you can say Pulse Power got my husband to enjoy chickpeas. He probably won’t eat them out of the can, but maybe now he’d be more open to trying them roasted (I doubt he’ll go for hummus).
You cannot tell these treats are made out of chickpeas at all. They don’t have the chickpea flavor. In a way they remind me of those potato sticks (I don’t know the brand, but maybe people might know what I am referring to).
I was surprised to see how small the Stix are in size. They are itty bitty, but that is fine with me.
The Stix are a healthy alternative to other crunchy snacks. Each snack size bag has between 100-110 calories (depending on the flavor), 2 grams of fat, 6 grams of protein and 3 grams of fiber.
Even my daughter who prides herself on making healthy eating and drinking options found these snacks to not only be better for you, but also delicious.
I found the spreads to be very interesting. I wasn’t sure if they would taste like chickpeas, but if they did, I was a bit “iffy” on the idea of chocolate and chickpeas. I didn’t have to worry at all. As with the Stix, these spreads/dips don’t taste chickpea-like at all. I’m not sure if that is a good thing for a bad thing. It’s a good thing if you don’t like chickpeas or won’t eat them, but it’s a bad thing if you are looking for that true chickpea taste. Regardless, the spreads/dips are scrumptious.
I tried the chocolate one on toast and it was oh-so-good! This is coming from a confessed “choco-holic” who “needs” to have chocolate every day. Admittedly I even ate some of this directly off the spoon.
I also tried the butter on both toast and crackers. Yum! Yum! Yum!
What I love about the butter spread is that it contains no nuts or the typical allergens. I normally give the kids at work a sun butter spread because we can’t have peanut butter. If you have ever tried sun butter you know how greasy and messy it can be. It’s an utter mess. What I love about the Pulse Power butter spread is that it’s thick and creamy, just like peanut butter. It’s not messy at all. Plus it tastes great.
I want to see about getting a jar of this product to use with my “work kids.” If they like it I’ll switch to using Pulse Power butter instead of the sun butter.
The choco spread has 170 calories, 10 grams of fat, 2 grams of fibers and 3 grams of protein. The original butter has 180 calories (I was surprised it was more than the choco spread), 10 grams of fat, 2 grams of fiber and 5 grams of protein.
