I don’t know if it’s out age (both my husband are are in in our early 50’s), too many rock concerts, or just all the other sounds around us (parking lot, cats, kids, fans, AC…), but we can’t often hear our television. We keep having to increase the volume. It could also be our television. We’ve had it for many years now, and perhaps it’s just not as good as it used to be.
We used to have a surround sound system, but that didn’t work out for us at all. Where we had to position the speakers didn’t work well for us. In addition, the woofer that had to be on the ground made the floor and the walls vibrate. Our downstairs and next door neighbors didn’t appreciate that much (they were kind about it, thankfully). So we gave it to our daughter’s then boyfriend.
We still want to enjoy hearing our favorite television shows, movies and sporting events the way they were meant to be.
We’ve thought about getting a sound bar for some time now, but “life” had a way of pushing that on the backburner. It wasn’t a priority, so we didn’t think about it often, and when we did, something else popped up and we’d forget about it again.
A while back I received to review from iLive a really cool sound bar. I received to review their 32″ HD Sound Bar with Bluetooth.
If you are not familiar with a sound bar, it’s a long (bar shaped) external speaker that you can hook up with your television, providing you with better quality sound.
Here are some features about the 32″ HD Sound Bar with Bluetooth from iLive.
- 60ft Bluetooth range
- Built-in stereo speakers
- Optical digital audio input
- Led pairing indicator, source indicators & power indicator
- Pairing button
- Play/pause button
- Skip forward/back button
- Digital volume control
- On/off switch
- And more!
The sound bar comes with everything you need to set it up, however, you may or may not require an additional cable. We had the necessary equipment already, but you might need another cable. If you do, simply go to your nearest Best Buy, Radio Shack or similar store. They are not that expensive.
The box came with everything we needed to set it up.
- Remote control: requires a CR2025 battery (pre-installed)
- RCA stereo audio cable
- Wall-mount hardware and instructions
- AC/DC power adapter
- User’s guide
I could not set this up on my own. I am FAR from a “techie.” The sound bar does come with a user’s guide, but I’m not good with stuff like this. Thankfully my husband is. He had this set up in no time.
I like that this sound bar is not that big, so it’s not an “eye sore.” It also blends in pretty well with our television stand (our television is mounted, but we still use the stand since it’s a fake fireplace). You can also mount this on the wall if you’d like. We can’t because we have a metal “cover” on the wall covering up the wires to/from the television set. But if we could, we’d most likely mount it since we use the television stand for our Christmas village and other holiday/seasonal decorations.
You can see the metal “cover” on the wall above our sound bar (which is why we can’t mount it). I also moved decorations out of the way so you can see it. As you can see, it’s not an “eye sore” at all.
This sound bar is very lightweight, so I would have no issue mounting it on the wall if it was possible.
The sound that comes from this sound bar is really nice. It’s crystal clear and it really enhances our television viewing. I love that the music videos I watch on YouTube sound perfect, and both my husband and I love how action movies sound like you are right there with the action on the screen. All the “booms” and “bangs” definitely sound louder and clearer. It has an excellent sound quality.
It reminds me of watching movies in the movie theater (remember those pre-Covid days?), without it being so loud that you’re ears feel like they are going to bleed (movies theaters can be TOO loud at times).
Sporting events sound excellent with the sound bar. It sounds like you are right there in the stadium with the action. My husband can’t wait for football now that we have the sound bar.
My neighbors have not said anything to us about it, so I guess it’s not too loud for them. We’re also mindful of our neighbors, so we’d never blast the volume. We just want to enhance the sounds coming from the television, and make them sound better. That is exactly what this sound bar does.
Our kids like the way this sound bar makes the television sound too. They have asked if they have can one for their bedrooms as well. We’ll see. Christmas will be here before you know it.
This sound bar is a good price too, at only $59.99. I have seen sound bars double that amount. As someone who lives on a budget, I consider this to be “budget friendly” for sure, especially for the quality sound you receive from it.
Are you in the market for a sound bar? Have you ever had a sound bar before? Feel free to comment and share your thoughts. I always love to hear from readers.
