This time of year many people enjoy doing a lot of cooking and baking. On the flip side others are so busy with all the hustle and bustle of the holiday season that they don’t really have time to cook a good dinner for their family and rely on take out food or have family members fend for themselves.
I think I can go either way. There are times I really enjoy trying out new recipes with my family. It seems like we eat the same old stuff all the time. Its great to mix things up a bit and try something new. Sometimes these recipes become instant favorites and I can add them into our regular “line up” of meals to prepare. Some recent additions from the past year include Chicken Salsa, Spaghetti Tacos and Pork Chop with Apples and Rice.
I am a very busy person. Between my family, home, pets, blog and business there are days I don’t know if I am coming or going. On days like that the last thing I want to do is spend a couple of hours preparing a meal. On days like that I rely on my trusty crock pot to create a fabulous meal for my family.
I L♥VE my crock pot. I don’t take advantage of it nearly as much as I should. There is nothing better then having dinner prepared first thing in the morning and not have to worry about it for the rest of the day. Using the crock pot helps with clean up too since it’s just the one pot to clean and not many pots and pans. I use the crock pot when I make Chicken Salsa. I also use it to make stew, soups and pot roast.
I have a couple of crock pot related cookbooks but they all seem to re-hash the same tired recipes over and over again. I have heard of a series of crock pot cookbooks called Fix It and Forget It but I haven’t personally tried them – until now!
I learned that there was a special Fix It and Forget It Christmas Cookbook. I just had to check it out, especially because it’s overflowing with 600 slow cooker holiday recipes. Six hundred! WOW!
I was so excited when the book arrived. I love the cover artwork. Its so enticing. The colorful drawing shows a delicious looking table set with shrimp, chocolate covered pretzels, meats, pudding, cake and more.
Did you know there must be about a half dozen Fix It and Forget It cookbooks? I never knew that. In addition to the special Christmas cookbook there is also a Fix It and Forget It Diabetic cookbook, 5 Ingredient Favorites cookbook, a “light” version and even cookbooks that feature stove top and oven recipes for those who do not have a crock pot or slow cooker.
I was overwhelmed by the book. As I flipped through the pages I must have “dog-earred” every other page. There were so many recipes I just had to try, but which ones to try first? With 600 recipes I could easily try out a new recipe every day for nearly a year and a half!
What I love most about these recipes is that they do not require a boat load of ingredients and each recipe takes only a few minutes to prepare. Each recipe tells you the prep time and cooking time. I found that the prep time is only a “guesstimate”. I was able to prepare many of these recipes in just a few minutes.
Inside this special holiday cookbook you’ll find recipes for…
– Mixed Potatoes Florentine
– Pizza Beans
– Chicken Azteca
– Slow Cooker Pizza
– Honey Dijon Holiday Ham
– Cocktail Meatballs
– Cranberry Brisket
And so many more. There are 600 recipes to be enjoyed in this book.
Also featured in this cook book are beverages like Maple Mulled Cider, Hot Cranberry Cider and Christmas Wassail.
No holiday dinner would be complete without an amazing dessert. Inside the Fix It and Forget It Christmas cook book you’ll find recipes for Holiday Cherry Cobbler, Gingerbread Pudding Cake, Fruit Compote and Hot Fudge Sauce. Mmmm…GOOD!
You will also find recipes for appetizers, snacks, spreads, breakfast, soups, veggies and more.
I have tried several recipes from the book so far, and I have at least a dozen more I want to try over the holidays, especially those that use ingredients that I know will fill our home with a delicious holiday aroma like nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla. Ahh… I can smell it now!
What I love most about this cookbook, aside from 600 mouth watering recipes is that all the recipes are quick and easy to prepare and don’t require exotic ingredient. All the recipes use pantry staples or ingredients you can easily find at the local grocery store. The only “downside” is that there are no photos of finished recipes. I would have loved to have seen a few photos of some of the recipes found in the book. But that is OK.
Fix It and Forget It also has a special Kid cookbook, appropriately titled Fix It and Forget It Kids Cookbook. My kids flipped out when they saw this cookbook and fought over what recipes to try first. They actually asked me to buy another crock pot!
My kids have been having a blast cooking with this cookbook. So far they have tried a hot chocolate drink that was made with Peppermint Patties (it was good!), sliced hot dogs mixed with cheddar and sour cream that topped on English Muffins, Italian Chicken Nuggets (like chicken parm) and a chocolate fondue type creation which was messy but oh-so-good!
What I love about this cookbook is that each recipes features a photo of the finished product. The cookbook also have a spiral wired binding which helps the pages to lie flat which makes it easier for children to work with. The back of the book also features a page where children can write down the recipes they have tried and the date. It also has a spot where children can write down their thoughts about the recipes they have tried from the cookbook.
Adult supervision is always recommended when children are cooking (or baking). My kids are 11 and 13 so they needed little help from me. I just stood around watching them cook and thinking about having them cook dinner for a change (ha ha).
If your child or grandchild loves to cook, or has showed interest in cooking, you’ll certainly want to pick up a copy of Fix It and Forget It Kids Cookbook. It would make a great holiday gift too!
Both books, Fix It and Forget It Christmas and Fix It and Forget It Kids are available at many retail locations. You can also visit the official web site, http://Fix-ItandForget-It.com.

I didnt even think about putting together a pasta sauce in the crock pot but what a better idea then leaving it on the stove for all day… The Italian Vegetable Pasta Sauce is a winner in my book, I would just add carrots as that adds the sugar and also helps with the acid in the sauce… thanks for sharing 🙂
