When it comes to shopping for gifts, I always try to think outside of the box, or look for unique items that you can not easily find elsewhere. I’ve never been one to follow the trends and what’s “in” during the holiday season.
I like looking for gifts that you know no one will gift the other person. It’s embarrassing when you gift someone a gift they already have, or that someone just gifted them.
I intentionally seek out shops, both online and in person, that carry items that are not readily available at mass retail locations.
Take for example Wicked Uncle. The site’s name is certainly unique. I would suspect with a name like that it would be a site that sells gag gifts. That is not the case at all. In fact, Wicked Uncle carries for boys and girls, from infants to teenagers.
What I like about the site is that its set up in such a way that you can narrow down gift options to make finding the perfect gift a lot easier.
I don’t often like to scroll page after page looking for the ideal gift. Who has time for that? No me. At Wicked Uncle, you can narrow down options based on gender and age.
Take for example your ten year old nephew. What get options would Wicked Uncle recommend for him? Here are just a few examples.
If you are looking for a great gift for your three year old niece, Wicked Uncle makes these suggestions.
You can also shop by categories such as Creativity, Role Play, Outdoorsy, Engineer and Sensory, to name a few.
There are a lot of fun toys and games on the Wicked Uncle website.
I was asked if I would like to review a couple of products from the site. I was more than happy to do a review. The hard part was to narrow down what items I wanted to try out in person.
I was sent to review the following products.
Throwback Pocket Video Game Console
My husband and I grew up in a time long before video games. We were in high school when Intellivion and Atari first came out (I’m giving away my age!). Actually, we vividly remember when Pong first came out. Pong of course is the simplest video game ever. It involves a little “basl” that goes back and forth, as if you are playing a game of tennis with it.
I don’t see the exact toy/game on their site anymore (sorry), but I do see a similar toy/game with more games (5,000 games compared to the 150 on the one I have. The comparable toy/game is called the Pocket Arcade Console 5000-in-one.
I didn’t really think too much of this handheld gaming console initially. I figured the games would be “cheesy” and the video quality not so good. I was wrong. Very wrong.
It’s hard to tell from the photo, but the images on the video game screen are bright and colorful. It is also easy to make out what is going on with the game. I’m very impressed.
There are 150 games on this device. I think my husband and I combined have probably only played about two dozen of them (he plays with it more than I do). Partially because we found games that we truly enjoy playing, so we play them a lot. And also because some of the games we can’t figure out how to play them or what the object of the game is. Sadly, the games do not come with instructions, so you just have to “wing it” and try to figure them out on your own. Some games are easier to figure out than others, such as driving/flying games, and games that resemble popular (or once popular) games.
The only thing I don’t like is having to scroll through all the games to get to the game you want to play. I wish there was an easier way to get to specific games rather than go through all the other games each and every time.
The sound quality is also pretty good. It’s not too loud, but it’s easy to hear at the same time.
I think this is a fun game, as does my husband (my kids have yet to try it out). It’s a nice pocket size, so you can tuck it in a pocket, purse, backpack or luggage. It’s ideal for traveling.
I think this game is appealing to both children and adults. After all, I’m an adult and I think this game is fun. I also like how it reminds me of the video games of my youth (8-bit).
I have heard of chiming balls before, but I have never experienced one in person, until now. It also goes by other names such as Harmony Ball or a chime pendant.
The idea of the chiming ball is suppose to emit a soft, gentle chiming sound as it moves. It’s suppose to be calm and soothing. I’m not sure, but I think it might have something to do with meditation (not quote me on that). I also believe in some parts of the world, pregnant women wear it to sooth their unborn child in the womb.
I really wanted to try one of these out, so I was excited to receive this.
The chain that comes with this necklace/chain that measures 16″. Sadly, this is too small for my chubby neck. It took me a bit to find another chain that I liked with the chiming ball.
The chiming ball is cute and all, but it doesn’t make as much sound as I had hoped. You really have to shake it to hear a little something. It’s not as musical as I had hoped.
Even though it doesn’t make as much of a chiming sound, it’s still a cute pendant. It’s unique looking too. I still wear it.
