It’s scary to think that school is almost over. My kids are done the third week in June. That means I’ll listen to the never ending words that I dread most – “Mom, I’m bored!” (Ha Ha).
Summer time means lazy days, day trips and family vacations, swimming, riding bikes and for some families camping under stars. It’s also time for Summer reading!
I’m not sure if all schools do it but our school district has mandatory book reports that have to be done over the summer. The kids have to pick two books from the school’s reading list, read them and write up book reports that have have to be handed in the first week of school when they start back in September. My husband is not keen on the idea. He thinks that kids shouldn’t have to worry about school work during the Summer. I have the opposite way of thinking. I think it’s a great idea and it helps to encourage children to read and hopefully, someday, develop a love of reading. Plus it keeps them busy.
Finding books that will pique our son’s interest is easier said then done. There is a new book series that he’s getting into now called The Adventures of Daniel Boom, otherwise known as the Loud Boy series, written by D.J. Steinberg.
The Loud Boy series is a perfect summer reading choice for children (and big children since my husband gets a kick out of these books too). It features story lines that are bursting with superheroes, belly laughs and action packed adventure. The Loud Boy series is also critically acclaimed by numerous education and library trade publications, but don’t mention that to the kids. Ha Ha.
The Loud Boy books are written with smart and funny with puns and plenty of kid-friendly graphics. The format is ideal for middle graders and reluctant readers such as my son.
Loud Boy is the story of Daniel Boom and his friends channel their tendencies to throw tantrums, talk too much and too loud, fidget and cause chaos wherever they go into superpowers that help save the world. Seriously, what middle schooler wouldn’t delight in a story that makes the very behavior they get disciplined for (Sit down! Stop talking! Be quiet!) the key to foiling evil plots for global domination? LOL!
The Adventures of Daniel Boom, aka Loud Boy books are available where ever books are sold.
