Now available on Blu-ray, DVD, 4K Ultra and digital is the latest installment to the Godzilla and King Kong movie franchises, Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire.
The film brings back actors from the previous film, Godzilla vs. Kong – Kaylee Hottle (Gia), Rebecca Hall (Dr. Andrews), and Brian Tyree Henry (Bernie Hayes). The film also stars Dan Stevens (Trapper) and Fala Chen (Iwi Queen).
Time has passed since the last film, Godzilla vs. Kong. Kong is back in Hallow Earth looking for his own kind. Godzilla is still on Earth protecting the planet from titans.
Gia, the last remaining member of the Iwi Tribe, is starting to get hallucinations. A vision that she has leads Dr. Andrews to believe she’s picking up some kind of a distress signal, but from whom and from where?
Godzilla is also acting strangely, going out of his way to absorb a lot of nuclear power from a nuclear plant and another titan.
Dr. Andrews finds out that the signal is coming from Hallow Earth. She gathers a small team of herself, a pilot named Trapper, Gia and Podcaster Bernie Hayes.
The group make their way to Hallow Earth, as well as Kong, whom himself has made a huge discovery of his own.
What does the group encounter in Hallow Earth? Who, or what, is sending the distress signals? What does Godzilla have to do with all of this? To find out, check out Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire. Look for it where ever you buy, rent or stream movies.
I do like the official synopsis too…
The epic new film delves further into the histories of these Titans, their origins, and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humanity forever.
That pretty much sums the film up too.
I received a free copy of the film to review. I’m very happy that I did. I have seen (and own) all the King Kong and Godzilla movies. I grew up watching Godzilla movies with my father. I’m talking about the black and white ones where it’s clear that it’s a person in a Godzilla costume stomping on toy buildings. I didn’t see it that way as a kid. I was entertained by it all.
This film is the perfect tie-in to all the King Kong and Godzilla movies (modern ones, not the old black and white ones). I love how this film connects all the dots and answers many questions as to why Kong was all alone (I don’t want to give away too much).
My husband joked that there wasn’t a lot of real life acting in this film. That is sort of true. A lot of the acting comes from the CGI created characters, such as Kong and Godzilla. That’s fine with me.
The real people acting was great. I have no issues with any of the actors in this film. In fact, Trapper (Stevens) looks like he’d be a lot of fun to hang out with in real life.
The special effects and CGI are the main stars of this film. I’m always in awe of how realistic they make everything look in these films. You really think that Godzilla is knocking down bridges and Kong is flying across ravines. The CGI is done to absolute perfection.
I really enjoyed this film. It kept my undivided attention from start to finish. It’s nearly a two hour film (1 hour and 55 minutes to be exact), but it didn’t feel that way at all. Sometimes long movies drag at some point, but I didn’t feel that way at all with this film. There was action from start to finish.
The film is rated PG-13.
