I love milk. Sometimes there is nothing better then a nice, icy cold glass of milk. Of course a side of cookies is always great too.
I have seen organic, Earth friendly, no hormones added… “healthy” versions of milk in the local grocery store, but I never purchased any. I guess in the back of my mind I keep thinking that it’s just not going to taste like “real” milk. I worry that it would taste watered down and not full body like regular store bought milk.
I recently had a chance to try UltraPure milk from Mountainside Farms. Their milk contains no hormones, no antibiotics and it’s been processed using advanced filtration and clarification technology. This actually gives the milk a longer shelf life. I can’t tell you how many gallons of milke we have had to toss out because the expired so quickly.
First of all, there are antibiotics in milk? I never knew that! That is really scary when you think of children drinking milk that has antibiotics in it. I have heard that some milks have hormones in it because the cows that produced the milk have been treated with a variety of hormones. That bothers me very much too. All these years I have been having my children drinking milk with antibiotics and hormones in it? I’m shocked that the FDA doesn’t regulate this better.
Needless to say I just had to give the milk from Mountainside Farms a try. Their milk comes in many varieties including whole milk, fat free milk, 1% and 2% varieties. They even have chocolate milk.
Their cartons and containers feature an adorable cow face by the well known artist Sandra Boynton. It’s such a “happy” looking cow. Seeing her happy face on the bottle of milk made me smile back at her.
I was a bit reluctant to try the milk at first. I was afraid that it wouldn’t taste like “real” milk and that it would leave a weird after taste. I was wrong! The milk tasted fantastic! It tastes just like the milk we have been buying all these years, except Mountainside Farm milk is healthier for me and my family. It was so good and it didn’t leave any kind of an aftertaste.
I also tried their chocolate milk and it is perfect. Not too much chocolate, not too little. It’s the perfect mixture of milk and chocolate. My husband loved it and he’s very picky when it comes to trying different things.
I had my children try some of the Mountainside Farm chocolate milk too. My daughter said it tasted just like “melted chocolate ice cream“, which I assume she means it is rich and creamy like chocolate ice cream. My son said that the milk tasted like something “chocolaty, like double chocolate“.
Mountainside Farm milk is available in the Tri-State area (NY, NJ, CT) and is sold at many stores including Shop Rite, C-Town, Whole Foods, Food Emporium, A&P, Waldbaum’s, Foodtown, D’Agostino and Key Food, just to name a few.
I visited the Mountainside Farms web site and learned a few interesting facts about their milk.
Mountainside Farms combines environmentally friendly business practices with innovative technology used in the processing stage which helps produce purer, better-tasting milk.
Their milk is considered a “premium product” but it’s sold at a price close to conventional milk. I have no problem paying a few cents more for milk that is healthier for my family and that tastes great.
Mountainside Farms knows the benefits of pure sources and understands that the purer the milk is before it enters processing, the more wholesome and better tasting it will be for consumers.
To ensure that the finest quality, purest milk reaches their facility, Mountainside Farms tests each shipment of milk to ensure there is no antibiotic residue in any of the milk it bottles. Specifically, Mountainside Farms tests for the presence of eight different antibiotics. This goes beyond what State and Federal regulations require. WOW!
Moutainside Farms is going to be our new source of milk for my family. If my local store does not carry it then I will have to either speak with the store manager or contact Mountainside Farms to see to it that they carry the milk ASAP.
If you are lucky enough to live in the Tri-State are visit the Mountainside Farms web site and check out their product locator to find a store near you that carries Ultrapure milk.
Santa is going to be extra good to us this year when we leave him a glass of Mountainside Farms milk and come cookies.
