Being so pale that I’m practically a ghost (ha ha), I MUST worry about protecting my skin year round. I’ve had more “suspicious” moles removed then I care to remember (I believe I’m up to 8 or 9 by now). My Dermatologist says that I’m a risk for skin cancer, especially if I get anymore really bad sunburns. That is really scary!
Just because the weather outside might not be bright and sunny, you still need to protect your skin from the sun. UV rays can cause skin damage, aging and cancer year round, especially with snow reflecting up to 80% of rays and high altitudes intensifying them, while UVA rays penetrate clouds, making broad-spectrum SPF 30+ crucial daily for all exposed skin and lips.
Yes, even your lips need protection from the sun. You need to use sunscreen on your lips because the skin there is thin, delicate, and has very little melanin (protective pigment), making it highly vulnerable to sun damage, which can cause painful sunburns, premature aging (lines, discoloration), dryness and significantly increase your risk for lip cancer (yes, there is such a thing). Using SPF lip balm protects these sensitive areas from harmful UVA/UVB rays, keeping them healthy, hydrated, and smooth year-round, not just in summer.
As you age, your skin’s needs change. If I knew back in the day what I know now, I would have worn sunscreen on my entire body and lips DECADES ago because it’s impossible to reverse sun damage. I also would have moisturized my skin and frankly took better care of it from a young age. To think of all those times as a teen I went to bed without washing my face and make up off…. eww! What was I thinking?
One brand knows about what your skin needs for full protection. Their products are great for all skin types, including mature skin like what I have (I hate to admit that thought. Sigh…).
MDSolarSciences is a dermatologist developed skincare brand, founded by Dr. Robert J. Friedman, known for its “cleanical” (clean + clinical) sun protection and skincare products, featuring mineral-based sunscreens with broad-spectrum SPF, antioxidants, and anti-aging ingredients, designed to be safe, effective, and environmentally friendly (reef-safe, vegan, cruelty-free) for all skin types, including sensitive skin. They offer a range of products from SPF moisturizers and BB creams to cleansers and night creams, all focused on skin health and protection against sun damage.
The brand was kind enough to send me some products to try out for myself. I received to review the following.

skin perfecting mineral BB Crème with SPF that helps even skin tone, reduce discoloration, and boost hydration while providing broad spectrum mineral protection against UV damage. Combine skincare, sun protection, and light coverage in one powerhouse product. Available in 4 shades to match and enhance your skin tone for an effortless glow: Light, Medium, Dark, and Deep.
I am not one to normally wear too much make up. I always hated wearing a foundation because I felt like it was too “heavy” on my skin. I also worried about clogging my pours or having my skin look unnatural. My mom used to wear foundation and I simply didn’t like the way it looked.
I wear sunscreen on my face, followed by some face powder. I would like to wear a wee bit of a foundation to even out my skin tone, which is why in recent years I’ve been using BB cremes.
This BB creme is lightweight. It’s hard to believe it has sun protection too because it doesn’t feel “heavy” like regular sun screens or foundations. It’s the best of both world. I get to even out my skin tone, get sun protection for my skin and not having that “heavy” feeling on my face where I need to rush home to wash it all off.
This creme doesn’t clog my skin nor does it smear off where it shows just patches of coverage. I also appreciate that it washes off easily and doesn’t leave any weird residue on my skin.
This creme is available in different tones to match most skin tones (light, medium, dark and deep). I’m very fair skinned and light works for my tone. It’s not too dark or overly noticeable.

Hydrating Sheer Lip Balm SPF 30
A perfect tinted lip balm with SPF 30 for sun protection and hydration. Broad Spectrum SPF 30 protects your lips from sun damage while Vitamin C increases collagen production and improves firmness. Packed with shea butter and jojoba to soften and smooth, and fortified with avocado and olive oils for all day hydration. This tinted spf lip balm comes in 7 sheer, buildable, beautiful shades.
This lip balm has a lot of nice shades available, from light and pinkish to darker shades. They even have a shimmer and crystal. I received crystal to review because I rather not have any shade. I just want the coverage.
I like that this lip balm is smooth and doesn’t have a waxy feel like some other popular brands. From the moment you apply it to your lips you can feel it hydrating and moisturizing your lips.
I like that it doesn’t make your lips sticky (I’m sure some people know what I mean). I hate it when your lips touch and stick to each other due to whatever is on your lips. That is NOT the case with this lip balm.
It also leaves your lips soft and smooth.
Normally this time of the year my lips are chapped, dry and even the corners of my mouth are split. So far, so good with this lip balm. This is pretty much all I’ve been using the past few weeks.
Know that this also protects my lips from the harmful sun rays is a bonus.

Daily Protection Moisturizer SPF 30
A daily lightweight moisturizer with SPF protection, antioxidants and potent skin nourishing ingredients. Hydrate and maintain the skin’s moisture barrier, brighten and reduce discoloration, smooth the appearance of texture and fine lines, and improve firmness. This SPF moisturizer is safe for sensitive skin and recommended for daily use by the Skin Cancer Foundation.
I really like this foundation. It’s lightweight and I don’t even realize that I have it on.
When I am not going to work I don’t normally wear make up. Yes, I can actually leave my home make up free (ha ha). However, I still want to protect my skin.
I have been using this moisturizer daily, even along with the BB Creme, for the past few weeks. They don’t interfere with each other, and having that extra layer of protection is fine with me.
On days I don’t wear make up I just use this moisturizer, which is fine because it has SPF 30.
It’s lightweight and hydrating. It’s the perfect every day moisturizer.
I can’t comment on how well these protect my skin from the harmful UV rays, only because I am not a doctor or scientist. Reviewing the products for what they are – a BB Creme, Lip Balm and Daily Moisturizer, I can tell you that I am very pleased with the quality and results of using these products. I am very pleased.
The ONLY downside I can think of is the price. These products are not necessarily budget friendly. They are a bit pricey. You are paying for the science and research behind the products.
