If you’ve lived with eczema as long as I have, you know it isn’t just “dry skin.” It’s an uninvited guest that refuses to leave, turning simple moments into a battle against the itch and dryness. For me, the struggle has always been personal and localized: the constant irritation on my hands, the burning patches on the back of my neck, and—perhaps most frustrating of all—my eyelids.
Finding a solution that actually works feels like a full-time job with no benefits. Most days, I’m caught in a cycle of trial and error that leaves me feeling more defeated than healed.
We’ve all been there – slathering on heavy, greasy ointments that ruin clothes and leave your hands feeling like a slimy mess. But the mess is only half the battle. When it comes to my eyelids, the stakes are higher. The skin there is incredibly thin and delicate, and the idea of applying a strong steroid cream so close to my eyes genuinely scares me. Between the risks of skin thinning and the long-term worries about eye health, I often find myself choosing the itch over the “cure.”
Recently, I was sent some products to review from Codex Labs, and they caught my attention because they aren’t just looking at the surface of the skin. While they offer high-performance topical support, they also focus on managing eczema from the inside out. In addition, Codex Labs also carries products for people who suffer from other issues such as acne, Rosacea, psoriasis and other conditions.
It’s a holistic shift I haven’t seen from many brands by addressing the internal triggers while soothing the external flare-ups. I prefer a more holistic approach to curing and caring for what “ails me” compared to lab created chemicals that I can’t pronounce let alone know what they are ultimately doing to my body.
What sets Codex Labs apart isn’t just their clean, plant-based ingredients; it’s their commitment to a “total system” approach that actually makes sense for someone tired of the endless cycle of flare-ups. While most brands focus solely on the surface, Codex Labs is pioneering a way to manage eczema from the inside out by targeting the gut-skin-brain axis. They combine clinically proven topicals with specialized supplements designed to strengthen your internal gut barrier and reduce the oxidative stress that often triggers those external fires. It’s less about just “greasing up” the problem and more about biohacking your way to a healthier skin barrier so that your body can actually begin to heal itself.
I was sent a couple of products that unfortunately I cannot provide too much of a review for. One is an infant formula and the other are supplements for children.

BIA Infant & Toddler Skin Barrier Support
What makes the BIA Infant & Toddler Skin Barrier Support so different is that it treats the root cause of eczema rather than just masking the itch.
Most of us think of skin hydration as something you rub on, but this is an unflavored powder you mix right into their food or drink. It’s packed with L-histidine, an essential amino acid that actually helps the body produce filaggrin, the “glue” that holds skin cells together. By strengthening that barrier from the inside, it helps little ones retain moisture naturally and stay protected against the external allergens that usually trigger a flare-up. It’s a gentle, science-backed way to give their delicate skin a fighting chance without the mess of heavy ointments.

BIA Kids Skin Barrier Support L-Histidine Dietary Supplement
For older kids (ages 4–12), the BIA Kids Skin Barrier Support gummies are such a clever way to handle the eczema struggle. Just like the toddler version, these are built around L-histidine to help the body naturally produce the skin-strengthening protein filaggrin, but they come in a much more “big kid” friendly format.
I’ve been using these lately because, honestly, when you’re dealing with constant flare-ups, it couldn’t hurt to give your skin every internal advantage possible. The best part? They have a mixed berry flavor that actually tastes good, making it a total non-battle to include them in a daily routine. It’s one of those rare “win-win” situations where you’re fortifying the skin barrier from the inside without it feeling like a chore. I wish they had these available for us “big kids,” because I have no idea how many I would need to take as an adult so I’ve just been following the regular dosing guidelines.

BIA Unscented Soap
I’ll be the first to admit it: I am a sucker for a good-smelling shower. I love the scented bath and body products – eucalyptus, citrus, floral – all of it. But as someone with eczema, I’ve had to learn the hard way that those “heavenly” scents usually come with a hellish price tag of itchy, angry skin. Most scented soaps are basically a flare-up waiting to happen for me, so I’ve been reaching for the Codex Labs BIA Unscented Soap that I’ve received to review lately.
Honestly? It’s been a bit of a reality check. While it doesn’t have that punch of perfume, it has this incredibly creamy, rich lather that actually feels like it’s doing something good for my skin rather than just stripping it bare. It’s made with cold-pressed oils and shea butter, so instead of that tight, “squeaky clean” feeling that usually leads to a scratching fit five minutes after I dry off, my skin feels calm and actually hydrated.
One thing that surprised me when I actually held the BIA Unscented Soap is just how substantial it feels. It’s a generous 5 oz bar, and you can tell immediately that it’s dense and well-milled, not one of those “melts-in-three-showers” kind of soaps. Because it’s so rich and creates such a concentrated lather, a little goes a long way. It feels like it’s going to last a long time on my soap dish, which is a huge plus when you find a staple product that actually keeps your skin happy.
It’s a bit of a sacrifice to give up the fragrance, but when my hands and neck aren’t screaming at me by the time I reach for my towel, it’s a trade-off I am more than happy to make.

Finding a lotion that actually treats eczema without making you feel like a grease-slicked mess is the “holy grail” for those of us with chronic flare-ups. I’ve tried countless bottles that either sit on top of the skin like wax or burn the second they touch an open patch. But the BIA Eczema Relief Lotion is genuinely different.
The first thing I noticed was the texture; it has this unique, almost cooling feel that immediately calms the “fire” on my neck and hands. It’s packed with colloidal oatmeal (a classic for a reason), but it doesn’t feel heavy or suffocating. It sinks in quickly enough that I can actually go about my day without leaving oily fingerprints on my phone or laptop, which is a massive win for someone who usually avoids topicals until right before bed because I don’t want it getting all over my bedding.
What really sold me, though, is how it treats those delicate areas like my eyelids. Because it’s microbiome-friendly, I don’t get that “chemical” anxiety when I apply it. It feels like it’s actually feeding my skin barrier rather than just putting a temporary bandage over the problem. I especially love that it’s not putting a steroid product on the thin layers of skin over my eyeballs. Please note that I am EXTRA careful using it on my eyelids. I just tap a tiny bit on the spot(s) where the eczema is. I don’t want to risk the product getting into my eyes.
Learning more about Codex Labs and their products has really shifted how I think about my skin. For years, I was just “fighting the fire” with messy creams and worrying about the side effects of steroids. But looking at eczema as a whole-body issue – instead of just a surface-level annoyance – has been a total game-changer.
Managing eczema is a journey, and while there’s no “magic wand,” this inside-out approach feels like the most honest and effective path I’ve found so far. My skin is calmer, my routine is cleaner, and for the first time in a long time, I’m not just waiting for the next flare-up to happen.
