It’s summer time! That means a lot of wonderful movies are making their way to a theater near you. Have you had the opportunity to catch a movie lately?

Coming to a theater near you on June 30, 2017 is a new comedy from Warner Bros Pictures called The House.

The House stars comedy geniuses Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler.

My husband and I were at the movie theater yesterday afternoon and we had the opportunity to see the trailer for this film.

After Scott and Kate Johansen (Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler) lose their daughter Alex’s college fund, they become desperate to earn it back so she can pursue her dream of attending a university.  With the help of their neighbor Frank (Jason Mantzoukas), they decide to start an illegal casino in his house.

The comedy “The House” also stars Nick Kroll (“Vacation,” TV’s “Kroll Show”), Allison Tolman (TV’s “Fargo”), Michaela Watkins (TV’s “Transparent”), Ryan Simpkins (“Arcadia”), Jessie Ennis (TV’s “Veep” and “Better Call Saul”), Rob Huebel (“Horrible Bosses 2,” TV’s “Transparent”), Cedric Yarbrough (TV’s “Reno 911!”) and Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner (“The Town,” “The Hurt Locker,” “Arrival”).

As a parent to TWO children in college (one currently in college, the other one starts in the fall), I can totally relate to the overwhelming expense.

We live in a tiny condo, so opening up our own casino is not feasible (ha ha).

As a parent, I try and do all I can for my children, most especially when it comes to helping them reach their dreams. Take for example our daughter. When she was only six years old she declared that she wanted to be a fashion designer and attend school at F.I.T (Fashion Institute of Technology) in New York City. At such a young age she had a clear vision of what she wanted to do. I was especially impressed with her idea to open a store where EVERY article of clothing came in EVERY size – meaning a woman who was a size zero and a woman who was a size 4X could both wear the same blouse. I loved that idea!

To help develop her love of fashion we purchased a sewing machine, I picked up a lot of fabrics and books about fashion design. Even an elderly neighbor provided her with patterns to make her own clothing. I even purchased sketch books, colored pencils and people “figures” to help cultivate he desire to be a fashion designer.

This went on for many years until she was around 15 years old. For some odd reason she changed her mind and no longer had interest in being a fashion designer.

Currently she’s in college studying to be a Neuropsychologist (A neuropsychologist is a psychologist who specializes in understanding the relationship between the physical brain and behavior). That couldn’t be any further from a fashion designer.

We ended up giving away and donating all of her fashion designing supplies.

Anyway…

This film looks funny. Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler are always a joy to watch on the big screen.

  2. I would love to see this movie and I am pretty conservative about a night out with my husband and friends, but I would go out for a drink and dancing!

  14. I’d like to see this with my older sister, who went through so many condundrums to put two kids through college with many twists and turns. I wanted to go to the same school as your daughter, I ended up going to a college closer that had fashion design major, but only attended one year. I still like to sew, though.

  24. Yes, this looks like a funny movie. My husband and I will go see it. Our type of wild night out is something low key that ends early in the eve. Neither my husband and I can stay up late anymore.

  29. Last year my husband took me out “clubbing” with friends for my birthday. As a 30 something year old I’m definitely too old for that but I’ve wanted to do it for a while just to feel young again since having kids. For the record we all had a blast and I really want to do it again!

  59. I would like to see this but we will probably see it when we can rent it or something. We do not go to the movies too much because my husband falls asleep after 15 minutes in a theater. I would love to have a wild night and go to Atlantic City, see a show there, and maybe gamble for a little.

  90. We have a new theater in town which would be fun for our group of grownups to have a night out. We get together to play trivial pursuit regularly and this drives our kids crazy telling us that we are starting to behave like seniors (lol). It would be fun to have some fun out together.

  94. I may see this in theaters if we can get a babysitter. I’d love to just get out of the house without the kids, do anything.

  95. I may watch the movie in a theater, but most likely at home on Netflix. I’m not into bars, clubs, gambling, etc., so it would be good to experience it vicariously!
