I don’t know about you and your family, but me and my family are bored with the foods we eat on a regular basis. It’s as if we eat the same stuff over and over again.
I’m glad the cooler weather is here (for several reasons). That means we can start eating soups again, so at least we have more of a variety for lunch. Eating PB&J sandwiches every day can be a bit boring.
I’ll enjoy soup year round, but it’s better in the cooler weather (of course!).
Soup is soup. I mean, what you find on the grocery store shelves is pretty much all the same – Chicken this, beef that. After a couple of months of soups we’ll get bored of that too.
I recently had the opportunity to try something a bit different, something that can really shake up your boring lunch (or dinner) routine. They are called Blount Bowls, made by legacy food developer Blount Fine Foods.
Blount Bowls debuted it’s newest addition, the Beef Pho Bowl. The Beef Pho Bowl was inspired by the staple Vietnamese dish. This flavorful bowl of Angus Beef, scallions, mushrooms, and noodles is packed with aromatic spices such as basil, cilantro and clove.
The Blount Bowls are ready to eat. Simply warm them up in your microwave for three minutes, and enjoy. The food even comes in a bowl. All you need is a fork/spoon to eat it with.
Blount Bowls are perishable, so they need to be kept in the fridge until you are ready to enjoy them. Because the food is perishable it tastes fresher – more like homemade. The product has not been sitting on a shelf for months.
Other flavor varieties include;
- Chicken Ramen Noodle
- Coconut Chicken & Noodle
- Hibachi Chicken & Rice (Gluten Free)
- Vegetable & Rice (Vegetarian/Vegan and Gluten Free)
I was sent a few bowls to try out for myself.
I put the bowls in the fridge as soon as I received them. They had decent expiration dates (well over a month), which would never be a problem in my home. My husband and our son has voracious appetites. Nothing lasts too long in our home.
Each bowl comes with the broth, meat and vegetables in a bowl with a lid and a safety plastic film to cover it. Packaged separately are the noodles. In fact, you can see the noodles right on top of the packaging.
Preparation is simple.
- Remove the lid/film from the soup bowl.
- Remove the noodles from their package and add to the soup bowl.
- Microwave for two minutes.
- Remove from the microwave and stir.
- Return to the microwave and cook for one more minute.
- Remove from the microwave, stir again and enjoy!
The soups taste really fresh. They are not as good as what you’d get from a restaurant, for obvious reasons (restaurant ones would have eggs and other “bells and whistles”), but they do have a freshness to them. They certainly DO NOT taste “canned” or highly processed. These taste fresh.
As for the flavors – wow! These are DELICIOUS! So much so that I wish they were bigger bowls. The bowls are a proper serving size, but with anything yummy you always want more.
I tried all of the varieties. I would have to say that the I really liked all of the flavors. The Beef Pho has A LOT of scrumptious flavor to it. That one, to me, tastes more like what you would get at a restaurant.
I also enjoyed the Hibachi Chicken & Rice, but honestly, I really enjoyed all of them.
These soups are easy and convenient. They are great for both lunch and dinner. Pair it with a side salad and you have hearty meal.
For me, the only downside is that the Blount Bowls are not readily available. I looked and there are none sold local to me. There are a few Acme stores in New Jersey that are “some what” close by, but they are not in areas that I frequent and I can’t see me driving all the way down there to stock up on Blount Bowls. HOPEFULLY they will become more readily available because I would certainly pick these up for me and my family.
You can check out the store locator on their website. There bowls are also available at the retailers shown below.
Overall I am very pleased with the Blount Bowls. They are certainly a welcome change to the regular lunch time meals me and my family has been eating. The bowls are filling, flavorful and super easy to make.
