Recently I had the opportunity to listen to Il Divo’s new album, “The Promise”. I have to admit that although I have heard of Il Divo I have never actually heard any songs by them.
I was pleasantly surprised when I listened to the album. To me Il Divo sounds like a cross between Josh Grobin and the Three Tenors (Pavarotti, Domingo and Carreras) which is a compliment because those are some of the most talented artists around. It’s not an opera album like you would have with any of the tenors, but there are some opera-like qualities about it. Keep in mind I like hardcore heavy metal, so it’s not THAT much like opera. It just has some of the qualities of it.
“The Promise” is a very romantic kind of album. I can clearly see listening to this during a romantic dinner with my husband (if we EVER get that opportunity again… ha ha). Or even as background music at a party or get together.
Their song “La Luna” is one of my favorites. For some reason the beginning reminds me of the theme song to the movie “Ice Castles” but towards the end it starts to remind me of a song called “Words” by the Bee Gees. It’s a lovely song and I have listened to it over and over again already.
“Angelina” is another favorite of mine. I believe it’s a remake but I’m not sure of the original artist. In any event Il Divo certainly does the song great justice – it’s beautiful!
“I Knew I Loved You” is another beautiful, romantic love song! I swear these young men have voices that could melt butter!
“Adagio” is probably the “boldest” song on the album. It gets pretty loud and dramatic at at the end. This one reminds me more so of opera then any other song on the album.
Il Divo also does their versions of “Amazing Grace” and “Hallelujah”. Of course my kids were quick to point out that “Hallelujah” was in the Shrek movie (LOL). Il Divo does an amazing job on both of these all time classic songs.
Il Divo’s “The Promise” is available now where ever albums are sold.
