Have you had the opportunity to watch the new ABC series Resurrection yet? If not you are missing out on a thrilling new show.
I wrote about Resurrection last week after viewing the pilot episode. You can read my review here – Resurrection.
Resurrection is based on a book called The Returned, written by Jason Mott. I have never read the book but after watching the first two episodes of the series I am intrigued by it and plan on picking it up from our local library or book store. It’s based on the book – it’s not written exactly like the book, but the whole concept of people coming back to life interests me.
In the series a young by name Jacob who had died 32 years ago suddenly reappears in a rice field in rural China. Jacob’s return seems to have triggered something because another gentleman has also reappeared who had passed away years ago.
Imagine if your loved one who had passed away years ago, even decades ago, suddenly reappears – un-aged – at your front door? That is what is happening to the residents of Arcadia.
I have plenty of beloved relatives I would love to have returned to my life including my mom and dad. I sometimes think about what I would say to them if I ever saw them again.
Resurrection stars Omar Epps, Kurtwood Smith, Frances Fisher, Mark Hildreth, Matt Craven, Landon Gimenez, Sam Hazeldine, Samaire Armstrong, Matt Craven and Devin Kelley.
While I was out in Los Angeles last week I had the opportunity to screen the second episode of Resurrection, which airs TONIGHT. I was hoping that the episode would give viewers some answers as to how these people are coming back from the dead. Sadly there were not answers given – yet. I just have to keep watching the series and eventually things will unfold and some answers will finally be exposed.
The group of bloggers I was with also had the opportunity to ask a few questions of Resurrection Executive Producers Michele Fazekas and Tare Butters.
Here is a little bit from our Q&A session.
Q: Are we going to find out how these people were brought back?
T: That’s one of the central questions of the entire series.
M: As writers, one of the things we try to do was we try to answer some questions, but like anything when you get 1 answer, it kind of makes you have more questions. And in some ways, it’s almost beside the point because they’re back now. Regardless of how they came back. And it is something that Marty and Maggie are investigating and trying to figure out.
In the meantime, these people are still here. Much of the drama comes from, “What do you do now that you have this 8-year-old boy? How do you deal with that?” Henry’s got a very complicated reaction to this. He feels like “If I embrace this boy as my son, am I betraying the memory of the child that I lost.”
Why is it happening is a question, but that’s not the central theme of every single episode.
Q: Are more people coming back?
M: I think it’s safe to say yes.
Q: Just in that town?
M: We focus on just Arcadia for those 8 episodes. It’s 8 episodes including the pilot. We have certainly planned more and there’s a cliffhanger at the end of the season that hopefully makes people want to come back for the second season.
Jacob’s like a stone that’s thrown into a pond and the kind of ripple effects he has upon his return and how it affects Fred and Maggie’s relationship upon his return. These characters are all affected by his return in different ways, some good and some bad.
As more return, we kind of multiply it.
Q: Are we going to get some idea of how they’re coming back?
T: There are some answers but we don’t answer everything. We still want to have an investigative drive. Do we know yet? The way we pitched this is… there are several questions. Why here? Why Arcadia? Why is it happening? How is it happening?
When we pitched the season to ABC, we pitched them the last scene of the last episode of the series. So we know where we want to go.
All of the bloggers in the room with me were on the edge of their seats when we watched the second episode (that airs tonight). When there was a commercial break we all sighed. There always seems to be a commercial right at an intense moment. Isn’t that the truth with many television shows?
This is NOT a scary show. These are not zombies that are coming back to life. These are real people who are suddenly reappearing in the town of Arcadia. This is an on-the-edge-of-your-seat thriller. It’s the kind of show that leaves you hanging at the end of the episode so that you are counting the days for the next episode to air because you need to find out what happened.
If you missed the series premiere you can catch it online on Resurrection’s official webpage. The show airs Sunday nights on ABC at 9:00 PM (EST) / 8:00 PM (CST). Please check your local TV guide for the channel.

thank you for the reminder! It’s crazy that I need a dayplanner to keep track of the wide ranging list of channels that carry the relative few shows I watch/want to watch.
On Demand saves me again
I’m so looking forward to return of Devinci’s Demons, Ray Donavon, The Bridge, Orphan Black, Under the Dome … especially Game of Thrones.

I was eager to watch this show because the trailer for it looked so good. I am glad to say that I was not disappointed. I like shows that keep your interest the whole show, this one did it.
