I love chocolate. Some might say that I am somewhat obsessed with it. I literally have at least one piece of chocolate daily (no kidding). It’s my #1 indulgence. Cookies, cake and ice cream are yummy and all, but I am a diehard fan of chocolate.
I am somewhat picky when it comes to chocolate. I tend to go towards gourmet chocolate instead of something you can pick up at the grocery store check out line. I’m not say that those types of chocolate are not good (they are!), I just tend to prefer the gourmet chocolates.
I know that not all chocolate is made the same. Some are made with better for you ingredients and less fillers that our bodies (nor the chocolate) needs.
There is one thing that I honestly never thought about when it comes to things like chocolate, or candy for that matter – the wrappers. My family and I are very cognoscente about the importance of creating less waste by repurposing things and/or recycling. However, something like a simple candy wrapper I honestly never gave much thought to. Just like other garbage, they end up in landfills, taking forever to decompose. Whose to say what harm it’s doing to our planet too.

I was recently introduced to a brand that is doing something about it. The brand is Alter Eco.
Let me tell you a little more about the brand.
Alter Eco’s decadent chocolates, crunchy granola, and wholesome quinoa don’t just taste amazing—they’re changing the world. This isn’t just chocolate; it’s climate action wrapped in compostable packaging. With regenerative farming, carbon-capturing cacao, and sustainably sourced ingredients, Alter Eco puts the planet first. Indulge in bold flavors crafted with organic goodness, and enjoy each guilt-free bite knowing you’re supporting a healthier ecosystem.
Just listed by Whole Foods as a Top Food Trend for 2025, Alter Eco’s Classic Dark Chocolate Truffles stand out not only for their deep, smooth Ecuadorian chocolate but for their next-level compostable wrappers.
Regenerative Farming: Alter Eco farmers use methods that restore soil health, capture carbon, and help reverse climate change.
The best ingredients: Commitment to organic, sustainably sourced ingredients that ensure ethical and planet-friendly production and naturally high nutritional values.
Empowering Farmers: Helps build better livelihoods for farmers through advantageous agricultural practices that increase long-term crop production and soil health
Fair for Life certified chocolate: Higher certification than fair trade that monitors and certifies companies for standards in agriculture, manufacturing and trade.
his is such a genius idea! I wish more brands would think about what their products are wrapped in. Why isn’t everyone making compostable packaging?
Alter Eco was kind enough to send me their 60 assorted truffles to review.
This holiday season, Alter Eco brings its festive limited-edition chocolate bringing luxurious flavor to holiday tables and celebrations everywhere. Built upon its commitment to regenerative farming practices, empowering families and farmers it works with, and sustainably sourcing organic ingredients, this B-Corp certified, Climate Neutral and Fair for Life certified chocolatier remains at the top of the nice list.
“Our Alter Eco work family wanted to design a beautifully wrapped line of truffles to help our customers savor our special chocolate truffles at holiday dessert tables, parties, as stocking stuffers and gifts for anyone at any type of celebration,” said Alter Eco CEO, Keith Bearden.
With compostable wrappers, Alter Eco holiday truffles also help reduce all the wrapping paper that’s wasted during the holidays. Try the following flavors in Alter Eco’s limited-time holiday-themed line: Peppermint Crème Truffle, Salted Caramel Truffles and Organic Dark Chocolate Assorted Truffles.
The assortment I received contained the following flavors;
- Sea Salt
- Salted Caramel
- Silk Velvet
- Classic Dark
Fans of these award-winning chocolates will recognize the deep, smooth Ecuadorian chocolate surrounding these sumptuous truffles. Inside, nourishing coconut oil meets milk and cacao for an oh-so-creamy center.
*Wrapped in plant-based, non GMO, compostable wrappers.
These are made with 39% – 58% cacao.
Each truffle is individually wrapped in one of the brand’s compostable wrappers.
These truffles are gourmet all the way! They taste A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! The Silk Velvet is my favorite, but to be honest, they are all delicious.
If you keep the box of truffles at room temperature, the insides are soft and creamy, like a true truffle. However, I like mine kept in the fridge. That makes the inside firm, but I don’t mind. I love biting into the truffle, having the outer chocolate shell crack open and enjoying the luscious inside. I just let it slowly melt in my mouth.
These are the perfect bite size indulgence.
Since receiving these truffles, I have been enjoying one (two… three… ha ha) every day.
I was impressed when I read the ingredients of these truffles compared to similar ones. This is just one example (Salted Caramel)…
SALTED CARAMEL INGREDIENTS *organic raw cane sugar, *organic cacao beans, *organic cocoa butter, *organic coconut oil, organic whole milk, caramel powder (*organic raw cane sugar, organic whole milk), natural flavor, sea salt (fleur de sel), *organic vanilla beans.
Every single ingredient I know what it is. I can understand them and pronounce them. There are no artificial colors or ingredients.
Better for you ingredients… compostable wrappers…fair trade…empowering farmers…out-of-this-world delicious… what is there not to love about Alter Eco’s truffles and other products.
These would make a great gift and/or stocking stuffer. You can also keep the truffles out at holiday parties or to share with your co-workers in the company break room.
