Now playing in theaters across the country, just in time for the holiday season, is the horror film It’s a Wonderful Knife.
It’s a Wonderful Knife stars Jane Widdop, Justin Long, Joel McHale, Jess McLeod and Aiden Howard, to name a few. It’s from RLJE Films.
This film is loosely based on the classic holiday film, It’s a Wonderful Life, but with a horror twist.
Winnie (Widdop) is looking forward to spending the holidays with her best friend, Cara. Angel Falls, where they life, is an idyllic small town all done up for the holidays. There is just one “blemish” in town, Henry Waters. Mr. Waters is buying out homes and businesses to make room for his own real estate ventures. He’s the least liked person in town.
On Christmas even night, Winnie is at a holiday party with Cara, when a psychotic killer starts attacking and killing the teens. The killer is dressed up in an all white outfit with a white mask that hides his/her features.
Winnie is able to fight off the killer and the killer’s identity is revealed, much to the shock of the community.
Fast forward a year later. Christmas doesn’t seem the same for Winnie without her best friend. Her life also seems to be falling a part.
That night, Winnie wishes that she was never born. He wish is granted and she wakes up to find that no one in town knows who she is, not even her parents or brother. On top of that, they psycho killer is still alive and the body count is up over a couple of dozen. The once beautiful town now seems very cold and lifeless.
How can Winnie get her old life back? Is she stuck in this parallel universe forever? To find out, go see It’s a Wonderful Knife. Look for it at a theater near you.
I have seen a lot of holiday themed horror movies over the years. It’s been my experience that they are normally pretty laughable and not scary at all. In fact, most of them are just a plain silly, and I don’t mean that in a good day. Still… there was something about this film that looked like it could be different than the typical Christmas themed horror film.
It’s a Wonderful Life is a classic film that my family and I watch faithfully every holiday season. We usually hold off until after Thanksgiving before we watch it. The thought of a horror movie loosely based off the classic sounded intriguing to me.
I was sent a screener to check the film out for myself.
I was pleasantly surprised. I loved this film! It exceeded my expectations. I thought maybe it would be better than the usual holiday horror film, but it was A LOT better.
The storyline has traces of similarities to the classic film, but in no way is this a spoofy or spin off of the film, but in horror form. Some similarities include a rich man trying to get richer by taking over the homes of the people in town. There is also the fact the main character (George Bailey/Winnie) think the world would be a better place if they weren’t in it. The town names also being Angel Falls is also similar, but not too much else. This is a stand alone film and you can enjoy it without ever seeing the classic film.
I liked the storyline. It was different. It was a little predictable here and there, but not entirely. There were enough twists and turns to keep it interesting.
The acting was great. Joel McHale was more serious in this film than he normally is. Justin Long’s character is the character you’ll love to hate. Even the way he talked in the film was enough to wish someone would bump him off just so you didn’t have to hear him talk anymore (ha ha).
There is a great mix of actors/characters in this film. I was happy to see actress Cassandra Naud in this film. She is an actress and professional dancer who has a large birthmark on her face. It’s great to see Hollywood is open to having a wider range of actors in their films.
The psycho killer’s costume was the best part of the film. It’s creepy! As a horror movie fan, I’ve seen a lot. This particular costume is stuff of nightmare. Even my husband jokingly said he was going to have nightmares about that costume coming for him.
This film is a lot of fun. I don’t think it’s necessarily scary, per say. There is a lot of blood, so if that makes you queasy, you have been warned.
If you are looking for something to watch in between holiday shopping, check out It’s a Wonderful Knife. Look for it at a theater near you.
