Do you enjoy listening to music? Do you like to take music on the go with you where ever you go? I sure do!
I often put on music when I am doing things around my home. It’s a “must have” when I’m cleaning. Some how cleaning doesn’t seem so bad when I am listening to great tunes. I also thinks it helps to motivate me and helps me to get things done faster. There is nothing like an upbeat tempo to help you clean the bathroom a lot faster than normal. LOL!
I also enjoy listening to music when I am taking our dog for a long walk.
One place I wish I could take my music with me is my car. I drive a 96′ Mazda that has a cassette player. I actually do have cassettes I can listen to in my car, but they are all from the 80’s. As much as I enjoy music from the 80’s I would rather listen to more current music whenever possible. I would love to be able to listen to music that I have on my iPhone too since that is the music I listen to often.
Thankfully I now have a portable solution that allows me to listen to my music on the go – including in my car or at a picnic with my family. It’s called Solemate. It’s made by a company called Jabra. Jabra is a global producer of innovative headset and speakerphone solutions.
Jabra sent me to review their Solemate speaker. This tough little speaker allows you to stream your favorite tunes wirelessly via Bluetooth from your smartphone, tablet, laptop, MP3 player or anything else that uses Bluetooth technology. You can also connect to your device using a 3.5 mm audio cable or USB cable.
Wireless speakers are not a new concept, however some speakers do stand out above the rest. Solemate is certainly one of them.
The Solemate is lightweight but solid. You can easily take this on the go with you where ever you go. It can easily be tucked inside a pocketbook, tote, backpack, duffle bag our suitcase.
The unit is called a Solemate. I’m not sure if that has anything to do with the fact that it reminds me of a shoe (sole). The bottom of the Solemate has rubber ridges that resemble the bottom of a shoe or boot. The rubber ridges can help keep the unit clean and dry from most surfaces. I’m sure the spaces underneath the unit also helps with it’s amazing sound quality and keeps it from vibrating. More on that later.
Solematealso has a small tab on the side that reminds me of the small tabs found on the back of many shoes. The tab (strap) can be used to hook the Solemate on to things to make it easier to carry or keep it safe.
I’m not a techie person at all. In fact I can be “technologically challenged” at times. Even so, I was able to set the Solemate up via Bluetooth form my iPhone in about a minute. All I did was turn the Solemate on, press the button that allowed me to sync it with my phone via Bluetooth, went to my Bluetooth settings on my phone, clicked on the option for the Solemate and I was ready to start enjoying my music. It was as easy as 1-2-3!
In addition to playing your favorite tunes, the built in speaker allows you to use the Solemate for hands free phone conversations too. That is great for someone like me who enjoys having a conversation with my hubby. He often calls me when he’s on his lunch break to touch base with me. Having the ability to talk to him without having to hold the phone up to my ear allows me to use my hands for typing or other things all while still enjoying my conversation.
Jabra’s Solemate might be small but WOW! It “packs a punch” with it’s sound quality. I normally keep it at a low level, but for the fun of it I put it up full blast and WOW! It rivals some stereo systems I have had in the past. It can get VERY LOUD which is great if you are using it to play music at a party. It can reach up to 112 decibels!
Solemate offers consumers a deep, strong bass from it’s integrated subwoofer as well as amazing acoustics from it’s dual tweeters. It’s hard to believe something so small can put out such amazing sound. The Solemate is the length of my hand (from the base of my palm to the tip of my middle finger – and I have small hands!) and about as wide as my hand too. With the amount of output this speaker gives you, you would think it was HUGE.
I have been enjoying the Solemate on the go in my car. I lie the speaker on my front seat, turn it on, find the playlist I want to listen to on my smartphone and I’m ready to go. I cannot even begin to tell you how great it is to FINALLY listen to MY music in the car. I’m tired of having to listen to cassette tapes. Even my kids enjoy having the Solemate in the car because they can sync it up with their smartphones and we can take turns listening to playlists.
We have even taken the Solemate with us when we are enjoying outdoor things like picnics and hanging out by our condo complex pool. In fact we were having a picnic yesterday by the Hudson River at West Point Military Academy and we had the Solemate with us on the picnic table. We enjoyed good food and good tunes. My husband and I had fun trying to introduce some “oldies but goodies” to our kids.
Solemate also comes with a protective bag that can protect it against sand, dirt and moisture. It also doubles as a carrying case.
I did inquire about how heat effects the Solemate. I didn’t want to leave it in my car for too long or out in the hot summer sun. This is what I was told;
Operating temperature: -10° C to 55° C (-50° f to 131° f); Storage temperature: -40° C to 70° C (-104° f to 158° f); Resistances: dust, shock and water resistance.
As you can see the Solemate can handle the heat which means it’s a “must have” for all your summer time activities. We’ve used it for long road trips, at the pool and on a picnic. In addition I think the Solemate would be ideal for entertaining guests at backyard barbecues, the beach and even just lounging outside on a hammock or comfy lounge chair and enjoy some relaxing music. You can even talk Solemate with you when you are doing gardening and yard work around your home too.
Solemate would be the perfect addition to camping, hiking, fishing and boat rides too. The possibilities are endless.
The hands-free phone feature is also great too. You can even have a group of people talk to someone at the same time. For example, if you are having a backyard barbecue and someone couldn’t make it all your guests can talk to that person via the phone without having to pass a phone around.
Having the ability to listen to my playlists while taking long car trips is probably my favorite summer time use for the Solemate. I plan on taking it with me whenever I need to be in the car for more then a couple of minutes.
Here is a brief video that gives you a little more information about Jabra’s Solemate.
Solemate is available in both black or white. I have the black one.
There is not one thing that I DON’T love about Jabra’s Solemate. It’s easy to set up, easy to use, offers amazing sound quality and it’s portable and can be enjoyed in your home or on the go. It even has a long battery life. You can use Solemate for up to 10 hours of talk time on a full charge or stream music for up to 8 hours. If you are not using your Solemate it has a standby time of 960 hours! That means on a full charge the Solemate will be available for you to enjoy for approximately 40 days from a full charge. Trust me, once you experience Solemate you won’t go a day without using it.
For more information about Jabra’s Solemate visit www.Jabra.com (or click here for the Jabra Solemate page). You can also find Jabra on Facebook and Twitter.
Jabra’s Solemate is available at many retail locations including Best Buy and Amazon.com as well as on the Jabra website. It retails for around $199.99.

My daughter would be able to listen and dance around to her music without having an earbud in at all times. She listens to her music just about the whole time she is awake. Her phone doesn’t have very good speakers so she listens to it with earbuds. If she had this, I could talk to her and she could actually hear me since her ears won’t be stuffed. lol thank you!
