I am not ashamed to admit that I dislike the sun. I RUN and HIDE from the sun! You won’t find me lying about by the pool. EeeK! No way! I had a few bad cases of sun poisoning when I was younger (I was even hospitalized twice for heat stroke) and I had six moles removed. The Dermatologist said if I get sunburned a few more times I could develop skin Cancer. Needless to say that I avoid the sun as much as possible and if I have to go out I ALWAYS wear sunscreen, as do my kids.
I’m party Irish, Norwegian and Welsh. Let’s just say due to my heritage I’m very fair skinned. My husband is 100% Italian and up until a few years ago he’s never had sunburn. Now he too wears sunscreen. Once was enough for him. My daughter has a more olive tone to her skin thanks to her Italian background but my son it more like me (very fair skinned). Even if we’re just going to the park to shoot some hoops the kids MUST wear sunscreen. I even send them to summer camp with extra sunscreen just in case they need to re-apply.
If there was an SPF 100 I’d buy it in a heartbeat! LOL!
Thanks to the Family Review Network and Kinesys I had the opportunity to try out some sunscreen from Kinesys. Their sunscreen is alcohol free, oil free, PABA free, water & sweat resistant, preservative free and offer a broad spectrum of UVA/UVB protection.
We received a bottle of Kinesys Kids SPF 30 sunscreen and a bottle of SPF 30 Girl sunscreen. Of course my daughter was thrilled about that. My son, well, not so much. He wanted to know if there was a “Boy” one. I tried to explain to him that there is no difference. It’s just in a pink sparkly bottle.
I like that the pump spray bottle sprays clear. We have used other pump sunscreens that are white and you end up covered in white goo from head to toe while you want for it to be absorbed into your skin. The Kinesys spray went on clear. I like that.
The regular spray has no scent whatsoever which is great because I don’t need to smell like sunscreen when I’m out and about. My husband says he smells something but me and the kids don’t.
The Girl sunscreen is scented in Vanilla and Green Tea. Everyone in my family felt that it smelled like a sugar cookie when yo first put it one. Once it’s absorbed into your skin you can smell something “sweet” but it’s hard to pinpoint the scent. I guess it goes on more like Vanilla and then dries more like Green Tea.
We waited for the spray to absorb into our skin right after we sprayed it. It did didn’t but once we rubbed it in to make sure that we covered every spot it dried very quickly. Our hands had a wee bit of a oil-like coating on them but nothing horrible that would require us to wash our hands right away. Other sunscreens leave your hands slimy or greasy. This wasn’t so bad at all.
As far as protection I can’t give you scientific proof but I can say that no one got sunburned the few times we’ve used it, even me, the one with the whitest of white skin (we’re talking GHOSTLY skin! LOL!).
