If you’re like me, the first thing you do when you get home is kick off your “outside shoes.” But if you struggle with heel pain or flat feet, walking barefoot on hardwood or tile is a recipe for a flare-up. Finding high-quality orthopedic slippers that don’t look like medical equipment is a challenge, which is why I was intrigued by the KURU Loft Slipper. With its sturdy arch support and a versatile sole designed for both the kitchen and the driveway, it promises to be the holy grail of house shoes.
I received to review a pair of Loft indoor/outdoor slippers from the brand KURU to check out for myself. I am very familiar with this brand and I own several pairs of shoes from them. I have always been very impressed, and pleased, by their shoes. They are my “go-to” shoes that I wear all the time. Even now when I go to work (unless I need to wear shoes better equipped for snow) I’m wearing my black ATOM Women’s Athletic Sneaker from the brand.
My first impression of the LOFT slipper (I received the Java-Brown/Gum color) is that these are not your grandma’s slippers.
Most “orthopedic” slippers look like something you’d find in a hospital gift shop. The LOFT, however, actually looks… cool? It has a modern, puffer-jacket aesthetic that feels current.

The outer part of the show is made out of soft suede. This gives the slipper its structure and durability for outdoor use. I do recommend spraying a water protectant on the slipper if you plan on using it outside at all, just to protect the look of it (you don’t want water marks on them).
The lining is made out of a plush faux-fur. This provides the “loft” or insulation that keeps your feet warm without the weight of real shearling. Before I even stepped foot inside the slippers I knew just by feeling the faux-fur that these slippers were going to feel amazing on my feet.
he sole of this slipper is made from a rugged, non-marking rubber material. This is for the “outdoor” part of this slipper, providing enough traction and thickness to handle pavement, gravel, or wet grass. Personally, I don’t think I would wear these out to work or for long periods of time, but for a quick trip to the market, or running errands, I would totally wear these slippers out of the house. At present time I have only worn these indoors, only for the fact it’s been snowy and bitterly cold. I wouldn’t say these are winter outdoor shoes. Spring and fall yes, but not winter or summer (the faux-fur would be too hot on your feet during summer months).
The KURU Loft Slipper features the brand’s KURUSOLE. Unlike standard memory foam slippers that bottom out after three days, these have a built-in chassis. It’s firm. If you’re expecting a squishy marshmallow, you might be surprised by the rigidity at first, but that’s exactly what your fascia needs.
As with every KURU shoe I have ever worn, my feet fit perfectly in them from the very first time. I can only guess the brand’s sizing is spot on. I wear an 8.5 shoe, and every time I’ve ever tried on a pair of KURU they fit me perfectly. I never had a “breaking in” period with any of my KURU shoes, and these slippers are no exception. They felt “broken in” from the very first wear.

Most slippers (or at least the ones I’ve ever owned) have ZERIO arch or heel support. Not these slippers. You can feel the support immediately, which took the pressure off my heels after being on my feet all day. You can even feel the support in the heel of the slipper, but in the most comfortable way.
These feel so good on your feet, with our without socks. The faux-fur makes them nice and cozy without making my feet overheat. I suffer from neuropathy in both feet, and things like warmth and certain materials make the neuropathy feel worse. These slippers didn’t aggravate my neuropathy at all. I like that I can keep my feet snuggly warm and cozy on a cold winter day. With the added support, these slippers are much better for my feet than wearing other slippers or plain socks.
The KURU Loft Slipper is available in both men and women’s sizes and comes in assortment of color varieties.
KURU has another slipper variety called Draft. That slipper is strictly for indoor use, but comes with the same KURUSOLE technology.
