I can’t believe that summer vacation is just weeks (and for some days) away. Personally, I can’t wait. We don’t have any plans, but that is okay with me. I just want some rest and relaxation, even if that means just hanging out with our cats on our balcony.
Summer is a time for going to the beach, backyard pool parties, vacations and barbecuing. Oh how I miss having barbecues in my father’s backyard. Those were the days.
Barbecues, pool parties, trips to the beach and even picnics at at the park often mean having yummy foods available, especially snacking foods like chips and dips. Chips are always a great option, but sometimes you want something a bit different.
Let me introduce you to Hippeas.
Hippeas are airy, better-for-you puffs and chips made out of unique ingredient – chickpeas.
I realize not everyone likes chickpeas. My husband is not a fan (more on that later), but me and my kids love them. My kids have been eating chickpeas since they were toddlers, in fact, when they went to school they often requested I send along chickpeas for them to snack on with their lunch. Their classmates thought it was an odd choice.
Chickpeas have a high amount of plant-based protein, fiber, and vitamins and minerals. Chickpeas also provide essential nutrients like iron, folate, magnesium, and potassium.
I get that not everyone is keen on the flavor of chickpeas, however the way Hippeas are made you would never know they were made out chickpeas. Case in point – I was sent some Hippeas to review. I had my husband (who won’t eat chickpeas) try some, not knowing what they were made from and he really enjoyed them. In fact he took a few handfuls of them. He was pleasantly surprised when I told him what they were made from.
Hippeas offers consumers a line of puffs (similar in shape to a cheese puff), tortilla chips and “straws.” The different varieties can satisfy your needs when you are craving something light and airy or crunchy.
The puffs are available in flavors such as;
- Cheesz Cheddar
- Grillo’s Dill Pickle
- Churro (limited edition)
- Mexican Street Corn (limited edition)
- White Cheddar
- Blazin’ Hot
- Bohemian Barbecue
The tortilla chips are available in;
- Sea Salt & Lime
- Rockin’ Ranch
- Nacho Vibes
The Hippeas “straws” are available in Sour Cream & Onion and Rockin’ Ranch.
I would have loved to have tried some of the delicious sounding flavors. I did receive the brand’s Cheezy Cheddar Pops, which are round, ball-like puffs.
The first time I popped a few pops into my mouth I was hit with a flavor explosion. WOW! You wouldn’t think something so small and airy would pack such a punch when it came to flavor. They are very flavorful. They are also very “addicting.” Once I started I had a hard time stopping when it came to eating them. Each bag has four servings, but I could have easily eaten the entire bag! That is a good thing as far as how much I enjoyed them – but a bad thing if I don’t want to overindulge in them (ha ha). Thankfully they are not high in calories and fat, unlike other snack options. These are a better-for-you snack option.
Here is the nutritional breakdown from the brand’s website.

Another popular brand’s cheese puffs have 160 calories per serving and 10 grams of fat, 3 grams of which are saturated fats. As you can see from the above nutritional information, Hippeas pops (puffs) have only 4.5 grams of fat and none of which are saturated fats.
In addition to being a better-for-you snack option, and delicious, Hippeas are also good for our planet.
Hippeas are made in a way that is respectful to our planet. The brand also cares about the farmers too. Check out this brief video to learn more.
I appreciate companies such as Hippeas. I wish more companies took more consideration into being made it ways that are better for our planet and our communities.
