I think at one point or another most people make the attempt to create flowers out of paper. Most of the time they are flat, one dimensional flowers that you glue or tape to a homemade card for Mother’s Day. I was infamous in my family for my handmade cards. I would also do something “extra” to make them stand out including making cards with a pop-up design inside, gluing on jewels or covering the entire card with glitter that would end up all over the house.
I have a vase on my desk that is filled with a bouquet of paper flowers (the flowers came with the vase). Since I can’t seem to keep flowers growing for very long I often opt for faux flowers. I have several faux flower pots and bouquets around my home. It provides me with the beauty of flowers without having to replace them constantly because they die on me. I don’t have a “green thumb”, I have a “purple thumb”. LOL!
I have been a long time fan of Klutz craft books. Actually a fan of Klutz books in general. I have never personally come across a book by Klutz that I didn’t like.
Klutz has a new book available called Fabulous Flowers. It contains everything you need to make a nice assortment of very pretty and unusual flowers. The kids includes the paper, stems, glue, rhinestones and more. The step-by-step directions allow you to create daisies, poppies and roses. You can also create not so common flowers like larkspur, cosmos and zinnias. I love that everything you need to make these flowers, and a few others, right in one neat little “kit”.
Normally when I do a review for a product I get to personally use it and take picture of it. With the Klutz Fabulous Flowers book I have to rely on what my 14 year old daughter told me about it. She went on a sleepover/pool party on Friday with some of her friends. She asked if she could bring the book with her so that the girls (herself included) had something to do. I was a bit reluctant because I wanted to see how easy (or hard) the flowers were to make for myself, but I agreed to let her take the book. After all it’s geared for children ages 8 and up.
I did go through the book and read through some of the directions. Thankfully they come with drawings. I’m a visual person and I understand things a lot better when I can “see” how they are suppose to look. A few of them looked to be a bit involved, but over all most of them looked to be “do-able”.
My daughter never brought home the remainder of the book (ugh!). She left it at her friends house. Her friend is suppose to bring the book and left over materials to school with her today to give to my daughter. I won’t hold my breath. It once took a friend of my daughter’s almost three months to return a DVD my daughter left at her house.
As per my daughter the flowers were easy to make for the most part. She said a few of the flowers (she didn’t specify because she couldn’t remember which ones) were a bit harder to do and it took a couple of the girls to figure them out. She said her friends had a blast making the flowers. A few of the girls sort of came up with their own designs too.
Since teens are so into what is cool and what is not cool I asked my daughter if she thought the Klutz Fabulous Flowers kit was cool. She said “Yes”. Wow! Then it MUST be cool. LOL!
I asked my daughter to tell me what she liked and disliked about the Fabulous Flowers book/kit. This is what she had to say.
Like: The flowers were easy to make and fun to decorate.
Dislike: She said she wished there were more pre-cut floral pieces and more things to decorate them with.
Overall I sense that my daughter and her friends had a fun time with the Klutz Fabulous Flowers book.
The book retails for $19.99 and is available on the Klutz website, www.Klutz.com, and at other book retail locations. Each kit has enough supplies to make 20 flowers.
Klutz would like to offer two lucky readers a copy of the book Klutz Fabulous Flowers. One copy per winner. Thank you Klutz!
