Can you believe that spring is only a week away (March 20, 2023). For most of the country, it doesn’t seem possible. Many people from coast to coast are dealing with snow and freezing weather. As crazy as it sounds right now, spring WILL be here, along with singing birds, green grass, blue skies and blooming flowers.
I really enjoy autumn. That is my favorite season, followed by spring. I can honestly say that summer and winter are my least favorite seasons. I know it sounds crazy to say that about summer, but I am not a fan of the heat and humidity. I also don’t like being out in the sun for too long. A big joke in my family is that I should be a vampire. I prefer to come out at night, and I am fearful of the sun. Ha Ha.
Growing up, the thought of putting on sunscreen was “foreign” to me. Sunscreen? What is that? I grew up in a time where teens would slather baby oil all over their bodies and bake out in the sun just to get tanned. Admittedly I did that too, although I never tanned – I only turned into a lobster. I even had to deal with sun poisoning on a few occasions (there is a story about one such instance that to this day my aunt and cousins still remember how I looked with my face completely swollen).
I come from Welsh, Norwegian, Irish and Scottish decent. There are nationalities NOT known for their golden tans (my husband is 100% Italian and has beautiful olive skin year round). For this reason I won’t leave the house without sunscreen. NO WAY!
Over the years I have had several “suspicious” moles removed from all over my body. It’s not a pleasant experience. May I never have to do that again.
As important as sunscreen is to wear, I’m not a fan of applying ooey gooey creams and lotions to my skin, along with that sticky feeling. Facial moisturizers are the worse. I don’t like how they make my skin feel. Facial moisturizers make my skin feel “heavy” and I feel as though it’s clogging up my pores. The very first thing I do when I get home is wash my face, just to get it all off. Thankfully there are a few on the market that are not so bad.
I was recently introduced to sunscreen from the brand Mama Sol.
Mama Sol is a female founded, new movement in suncare.
Mama Sol will be launching with a hero product – a 100% Mineral Moisturizing Sunscreen which is a 3-in-1 by also acting as a hydrating moisturizer and gorgeous primer Oh…and it’s safe for everyone – including Mother Nature.
The product won’t be available until next month (April 2023), but I was able to receive an advanced bottle of the brand’s new sunscreen to try out for myself.
Before you question why I would need/want sunscreen before the nice weather comes about. That is because you should technically be wearing sunscreen year round. Google it. Just because the weather is not-so-nice, doesn’t mean your skin won’t be affected.
According to the brand;
Created with the safety of pregnant and nursing mothers at the forefront, but designed for all skin types, Mama Sol is here to simplify your multi-product skincare routine.
Combining a 100% mineral sunscreen, hydrating moisturizer, and high-performance skin primer, the formula goes on with a white tint so you know where you’ve applied it. With the warmth of your fingertips the silky formula becomes translucent and blends into skin in seconds.
My first impression when I pumped some of the product on my hand is that it doesn’t come across as your typical sunscreen. It just looks (and feels) like a lightweight lotion. Right away I appreciated that aspect of the product. It didn’t feel heavy in my hand, therefore I was anticipating that it would feel lightweight on my face too. It does! This doesn’t not seem like facial sunscreen at all. It feels like the moisturizer that I apply to my skin day and night.
After applying this product to my face, I didn’t feel the need for an additional moisturizer. It left my face feeling hydrated in a gentle way (if that makes sense?).
This sunscreen absorbed into my skin quickly too.
It has a slight scent to it, but I really don’t notice it much. It doesn’t have that typical sunscreen scent.
I have worn this product several times thus far, and I can honestly say that I don’t feel like I am wearing sunscreen at all. It doesn’t leave that heavy feeling on my face, nor do I feel like my pores are being “clogged.”
It’s about time that someone created a sunscreen that feels lightweight with the added bonus of being a moisturizer and primer. It’s a great combination. I’m truly a big fan of this product.
I haven’t had the opportunity to try it out on a very sunny day (like a hot summer day), so I cannot comment on just how well it protects, but so far I am loving this product. I will update this post should my opinion change in any way.
The suggested retail price for Mama Sol’s 100% Mineral Moisturizing Sunscreen is $44. It’s not available as of yet (not until April 2023), but it will be available at www.shopmamasol.com and new clean beauty marketplace called treesy.com.
Do you apply a sunscreen every day? Feel free to comment and share your thoughts. As always, I love to hear from readers.
