I have talked a lot about how Christmas is literally around the corner (ten days from today). However, that is not the only holiday that is fast approaching. Hanukkah is also only ten days away. Both holidays are on December 25th this year (first day of Hanukkah). I don’t remember them ever falling on the same day.
My family and I celebrate Christmas, but we do have family members and friends who celebrate Hanukkah. Some even celebrate both (that must be so confusing).
There is a lot that goes into preparing for the perfect Hanukkah celebration. No worries, the brand Manischewitz has got you covered. They have all the items you need to make your Hanukkah celebration the best it can be. From food to candles, Manischewitz has it all.
Here are just a few products from Manischewitz for your Hanukkah celebration.
Pre-Baked Cookie Kit
I LOVE this idea! People make and decorate sugar cookies for Christmas, so why not enjoy the same family-bonding activity at Hanukkah time.
I appreciate that the cookies are pre-made (I can’t bake to save my life – ha ha). All you need to do it to mix the royal icing, put it in the piping bag, and decorate the cookies. The kit even includes embellishments such as glittery sugar crystals.
This kit makes 12 cookies. This week I do have one day where I only have 11 kids in the program I am the site director for (one of which celebrates Hanukkah). I am going to bring this kit to work and let the kids make a cookie and have the student share with the rest of the kids something about Hanukkah. I also have a book about Hanukkah that I was going to read to the group.
In our program we try and represent all holidays.
Chocolate Coins
I think one of the best part about Hanukkah for kids are the chocolate coins.
I knew they were available in milk chocolate, but I didn’t know they were also available in dark chocolate. Yum!
These chocolate coins are pre-packaged. There are 24 coin “packs” per box.
The coins are also called “gelt.” I tried to find the true tradition of giving the coins, but came up with several different reasons. If you know the real reason why gelt is giving out at Hanukkah I would love it if you could leave a comment on this post and tell me more about it.
I plan on giving these out to my “work kids” the same day we decorate the sugar cookies. I’m going to ask my student if she knows why they are given out at Hanukkah.
The chocolate is really good too. It’s the perfect “bite size” pieces. I especially like the dark chocolate ones.
Candles
These are pretty candles that have a twisted design. They also come in a variety of colors.
Each candle burns for approximately 30 minutes.
I know that menorahs come in different sizes. These candles are bigger than birthday candles, but they are not large either. I’m assuming they are a regular size for most menorahs.
I burned one to see how easy they are to light. I lit it with no issues. The wick is very sufficient in size
Latke Mix
I LOVE latkes! They are SO GOOD! I love it when my relatives who celebrate Hanukkah make them. I could gobble them all up.
This mix is so easy to use and requires only a few ingredients that most kitchens already have. Unfortunately I don’t have enough oil at the moment. Both my husband and I have been sick (oh the joys of working with children) so I haven’t been to the store. I also want to get some sour cream to enjoy with them.
Manischewitz does have pre-made frozen latkes. I am going to check to see if my local grocery store carries them. All you’d need to do it warm them up since they are pre-made.
Manischewitz products are found in grocery stores across the country. In addition you can find them at places such as Amazon. In fact, Amazon has an extensive number of products from the brand available (including other cookie kits such as a Hanukkah house and ugly sweater cookies). Many products are available on Prime too.
