Marie Callender’s New Baked Meals (Giveaway)

When it comes to dinner I do strive and make a home cooked meal every night for my family. That is how I was raised. Growing up we rarely ate out. If we ate out twice a year it was a lot. My parents were also not big on take out foods either. Having pizza delivered was a rarity in my home. Instead my mom would cook over a hot stove for hours every day just to have dinner ready on the table at 5 PM when my dad got home.

I’ll be the first to tell you that I am NOT like my mom when it comes to cooking. I do make dinner for my family from scratch whenever possible but realistically speaking its not always possible. My kids have me coming and going all week long and my husband’s hours have me totally off. Not to mention there are days I am very busy and other days I just don’t have the “oomph” to cook. On days like that I will rely on convenience foods or take out. Take out can get pretty expensive so we only use that option at best once a month.

My family has been enjoying Marie Callender’s products for many years. My husband used to take Marie Callender’s Pot Pies to work with him for lunch at his old job. My family also L♥VES Maria Callender’s Chocolate Satin Pie. Have you tried that? Oh my! It is delish! I know there is a Turtle Pie but our grocery store never carries it. I would love to try that some day too.

Maria Callender has introduced a new product line called Bakes. The great thing about the Bakes is they they can serve multiple people. Bakes are currently available in these flavors;

– Chicken, Spinach & Mushroom Lasagna

– Creamy Chicken Alfredo with Sun Dried Tomatoes

– Scalloped Potatoes and Ham in a Creamy Swiss Cheese Sauce

– Southwestern Style Chipotle Chicken Bake

– Three Meat and Four Cheese Lasagna

– Vermont White Cheddar Mac & Cheese

I cannot wait to try them all! Sadly our local grocery store doesn’t carry much of a variety of them. I hope its only because they are new. I hope in the next few weeks the other flavors will also become available.

My family did try out two flavors, the Chicken, Spinach & Mushroom Lasagna and the Southwestern Chipotle Style Chicken.

I just had to try the Chicken, Spinach & Mushroom Lasagna first. It just sounded too good.

The meal can cook in your oven or microwave. I opted to use the microwave. It took about 15 minutes to make which wasn’t so bad. It gave me time to set the table, feed our pets and prepare the salad.

I accidentally over cooked it which caused the spinach to burn a little bit. I know that it doesn’t necessarily look appealing in the photo but I can assure you that looks are deceiving. It tasted really good. 

I know a lot of people are not keen on spinach but I didn’t really notice it. It all sort of blended together when it was cooked. I would have preferred bigger pieces of chicken, or at least more of it. There were only little cubes of chicken scattered throughout the lasagna. That was fine for my daughter who doesn’t like chicken, but my husband and I would have preferred a little more. Over all it was very tasty and every piece was devoured.

My husband and I also tried the Southwestern Chipotle Style Chicken bake (my kids wanted no part of it). If you like spicy foods and food with a “kick” then you’ll like this Marie Callender’s Baked meal. It is spicy. Not terribly spicy but spicy enough for me.

I am not sure if we’ll be the Southwestern Chipotle Style Chicken again, only because there were tomatoes mixed in and neither my husband or I are fond of tomatoes. We like tomato sauce, ketchup and salsa, just not tomatoes (go figure).

I am anxious to try the other flavors. They sound yummy!

Our family of four did have the lasagna and a salad which was filling enough for us but other people might prefer larger portions. I would say you can feed at least 2-3 people with average portions and up to 4 people with smaller portions which you might want to supplement with a side salad or some fruits and veggies.

Since my family already enjoys other Marie Callender products I’m sure I’ll be stocking up on a few Bakes to keep on hand for those days I just don’t want to cook or don’t have the time. They are pretty quick to make (around 15 minutes in the microwave) and easy to clean up (no pots and pans!). Not to mention pretty tasty too.

  80. Oh my gosh they all sound delicious but we would probably go for the Three Meat and Four Cheese Lasagna or the Southwestern Style Chipotle Chicken Bake. Either way these sounds SO GOOD!

  119. The Ham and Scallop potatoes is almost as good as mine, but comes in really handy when I am running late and need something that taste great. :o) My kids love the mac and cheese too.
