Monday is One Day (Giveaway)

I was very fortunate growing up. My mom stayed at home while my dad went to work, although I did miss my dad when he was gone all day. With my own family I have always been a stay at home, work from home, mom while my husband goes to work. As it was when I was little, my kids miss my husband when he’s gone all day too.

For young children it can be hard to have to wait until the weekend before they have a chance to do fun things with their mom and dad. It might be hard for them to understand that EVERY DAY can be special with mom and dad and there is a lot of fun to be had all week long, not just on the weekends.

A new book by author Arthur Levine and illustrated by Julian Hector explores those special bonding moments that can happen any time, morning, noon or night and any day of the week. The book is called Monday is One Day and it is currently available where books are sold.

Here is a brief video about the book.

Monday is One Day features very colorful illustrations. I wish I could find a descriptive word to describe it. The images remind me in a way of books I used to read when I was little (back in the 7o’s). Not so much “nostalgic” or “retro”, but they kind of remind me of books from my childhood. The images are colorful and only use primarily colors like red, blue, yellow, green and white.

Throughout the book readers are given examples about how each and every day can be special in the life of a child and their parent/parents. A child does not need to look forward to only weekend to do fun things with his or her parents. Fun, special moments can happen at any time.

I loved the way the words just seemed to flow perfectly throughout the book.

The interesting thing about this book is that it features a variety of families in different settings (city, farm, country…). There are multicultural families and even a family that consists of two days, which I was surprised to see. I appreciate that fact that the author and illustrator created a book that emphasized that families are unique and different from one another.

This book would make an ideal book to read to a child (or have the child read to you) just before bed time. I think Sunday night would be ideal since the book talks about the week, starting with Monday, which would be the next day.

I really enjoyed this book. I’m giving it a two thumbs up because of the rhythmic way the words danced across the pages, the varieties of families featured in the book, and the unique artwork.
