Glazer and Bateau have an amazing chemistry together. Normally I would think of a male and female having a romantic chemistry, but these two have a friendship chemistry on screen that is just as powerful.
The storyline it’s self is something I am sure that many people can relate to including single parents, having a best friend, and life’s ups and downs when even your best laid plans fall through. Unlike other films, this one wasn’t necessarily predictable. In fact, I was very surprised at the reason why Eden’s baby daddy was no longer in the picture. That was a bit of a shock.
The acting is spot on in this film. Out of all the actors, even the minor ones, they all did a fabulous job. I honestly have no issues with any of them.
The comedy can be raunchy at times. There are plenty of references to bodily functions, bodily fluids, sex and more. There are also a few “questionable” scenes such as Eden urinating on a pregnancy test right there in her living room. My husband and I both feel that the film would have been just as funny and entertaining without the raunchiness. Spending a lot of time talking about poop is really not necessary.
The film is funny, raunchiness aside. I nearly spit my coffee out with a scene involving Dawn’s young son getting ready for bed with his babysitter. That was comedy gold!
Babes has a run time of an hour and forty-four minutes. It is rated “R” for crude comedy and bad language.
Babes if from NEON, the same studio that just released the film Long Legs.
Below is the film’s trailer for your enjoyment. PLEASE NOTE, this is the red band trailer, meaning it contains bad language and such. You shouldn’t watch this trailer at work or in front of children (just to be on the safe side).
