Now available On Demand is the horror film, Bogieville. It’s referred to as “an American vampire road movie.”
Bogieville stars Sean Cronin, Arifin Putra (The Raid 2: Berandal, Macabre), Eloise Lovelle Anderson (“The Bastard Executioner,” The Hustle), Jonathan Hansler (Election Night, The Lockdown Hauntings), Daniel P. Lewis (Our Kid, Billy Smith, Amazing Grace), Poppie Jae Hughes (Our Kid, Amazing Grace), Angela Dixon (The Lockdown Hauntings, Never Let Go), Sarina Taylor (Solitary, Tomorrow), Ash Valley (Remembrance) Darren Tassel (War of the Worlds: The Attack), Alex Reece (“Survivors,” Them, Escape), Joe Riley (Finding My Voice, Invasion of the Not Quite Dead).
The film was written by Henry P. Gravelle and produced by DJohnny Chen, Sean Cronin and Ben Pickering.
A young couple, Ham (Putra) and Jody (Anderson) are on the run after skipping out on money they owe to their landlord, when they happen across a derelict trailer park known as Bogieville. There they meet up with Bogieville’s caretaker named Crawford Hansler). He offers them a job helping me to care for Bogieville in exchange for a room and food.
The couple are a bit confused since the trailer park looks abandoned… but it’s not. The residents of Bogieville are vampires, ruled by Crawford’s brother in law Madison (Cronin). The group includes Crawford’s blind daughter Lily (Hughes).
No one in their right mind would agree to this situation, however now that the vampires have their scent they can never leave otherwise the vampires will come looking for them.
Is there a way to escape this dire situation, or will Ham and Jody be forced to remain as replacement caretakers of Bogieville for the rest of their lives? To find out you’ll never to check out Bogieville. Look for it On Demand.
I’ll be honest, I wanted to see this film after seeing an image of Poppie Jae Hughes as Lily. She looks terrifying!
Here is a screen shot from a trailer to show you the image I am referring to.
She looks terrifying!
As far as the movie goes, I appreciate the storyline is different than we typically see in horror films. There was no haunted house, possessed people, ghost, or people staying at a cabin in the woods being terrorized by a maniac or monster. Those themes are so overplayed. I appreciate that this film is about a couple forced to be caretakers for a group of vampires hidden away at a run down trailer park. I appreciate the originality.
The acting was okay. It was a bit “cheesy” at times, and some actors were better than others. Let’s just say the film won’t be up for any Academy Awards, however, how many horror movies have stellar acting? Most people want to watch horror movies for the scare action and special effects. At least that’s how I look at it, and honestly, I am fine with that.
I’m NOT saying the acting was bad, I’m just saying it’s what you would expect from a horror movie, if that makes sense?
The special effects in this film are awesome. I liken the vampires to those found in the film 30 Days of Night. If you’ve seen that movie and enjoyed it, then you’ll love the vampires in this film. They are reminiscent of the 30 Day of Night vampires in a way. Their teeth, the way they talk, their mannerisms are all similar, which I didn’t mind at all since I enjoy the film 30 Days of Night and have seen it many times.
I won’t say I found this movie predictable. I had the ending going a different way than it did. I won’t go into details because I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but the ending was different than the direction I thought it was going in.
This is a vampire/horror movie, so expect a lot of blood, gore and scares. If you are easily frightened or get too queasy at the sight of blood, just be forewarned when watching this film.
I found the film entertaining. I would watch it again if I happened across it on a premium channel (HBO, Starz…).
This film has a run time of one hour and forty-eight minutes. I don’t know the rating but I would say without a doubt that it’s rated “R.”
Below if the film’s trailer for your enjoyment.
