Available on Digital HD and DVD, is the inspirational documentary Brave Miss World, by Cecilia Peck (Gregory Peck’s daughter).
Brave Miss World is the true story of Former Miss World Linor Abargil, who at the age of 18, survived a violent stabbing and rape just before winning the Miss World crown. The compelling film follows her fight to convict her attacker, and her journey from teenage victim to empowered survivor, lawyer and advocate for others whose lives have been impacted by sexual violence. Linor speaks out about rape from the townships of South Africa to Universities in the U.S., where the lack of justice available to survivors of rape is among the most critical issues of our times. The documentary explores the trauma and stigma of sexual assault, through one young woman’s refusal to stay silent.
Here is the film’s trailer.
I was sent a copy of the film to review.
This documentary is very deep, powerful and intense. It’s NOT a “family friendly” film, although young women should know about the dangers that could happen to them.
According to RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network), these are the statics for rape and sexual assaults.
About Victims
- 44% of victims are under age 18
- 80% are under age 30
Sexual Assault Numbers
- Every 107 seconds, another sexual assault occurs
- There is an average of 293,000 instances (victims age 12 or older) of sexual assault each year
Reporting to Police
- 68% of sexual assaults are not reported to the police
- 98% of rapists will never spend a day in jail
About Rapists

- 47% of rapists are a friend or acquaintance
Did you read that part about how every 107 seconds (less than two minutes!), a sexual assault occurs. The victims can be your friend, sister, mother, neighbor, classmate, co-worker or even YOU!
With Linor Abargil her attacker also tried to murder her.
Linor was very young when this happened to her. She had her whole life ahead of her. She wanted to be a typical teenager – she never expected to come face-to-face with pure evil. Nor did she ever expect she would go around the world speaking on behalf of other victims, trying to educate the public about rape.
This film includes personal stories from other victims. It’s not easy to watch. Your heart goes out to these women. You want to reach into the television screen and hug them. At the same time you want to run into your kitchen, grab a knife, find their attacker, cut off their “man-hood,” toss them in jail and throw away the key FOREVER!
The film not only educates viewers, it’s also a story of inspiration. Many victims don’t share their stories with friends and family. They keep it to themselves which can result in a lot of negative things like self-hate, low self-esteem, depression and more. Linor shows the people she meets and those she lectures to about how you can be strong and brave and overcome what happened to you.
This is a truly inspiring film that I hope others will consider viewing whether you are a victim yourself, know a rape victim or simply want to educate yourself on the subject matter.
