Coming to Video on Demand (VOD) tomorrow, November 21, 2023, is the horror film, Do Not Disturb.
Do Not Disturb is from Dark Stars Pictures. It received raves on the genre festival circuit including screenings at Popcorn Frights, Screamfest LA, Atlanta Horror Fest and more.
The film stars Kimberly LaFerriere and Rogan Christopher as Choe and Jack.
The couple travel to Miami to help mend their failing marriage. It’s as if the trip is their last attempt to reconnect and fix what is broken between them. Chloe is still heartbroken over the loss of their child. Jack is more interested in the fact that Cloe is not sexually attentive to his needs anymore.
The vacation doesn’t go well. It seems both partners have already checked out of the relationship. This changes when they find a man of a remote beach. The man wakes up ranting and raving about something. He tosses drugs at the couple and runs off.
Chloe thinks they should ditch the drugs, but Jack sees it as a way to make money. He even promises Chloe he’ll use the money to upgrade their hotel room with a ocean view.
Once back at the hotel, Jack realizes the drugs are a rare form of peyote. He encourages Chloe to try it with him in hopes the experience will open them up to one another to help mend their marriage. Reluctantly she agrees.
Initially they just have a very trippy experience, however, unlike other drug experiences, this drug comes with a twist… he makes the user crave meat, even if it means the human kind.
Do Not Disturb is a “psychedelic horror film wrapped in a failed marriage and cannibalism,” and a cautionary tale as to why you should not do drugs, especially drugs you get from a random stranger that you know nothing about.
I received a free screener to review.
I wanted to see this film because the trailer looked interesting and I’m a fan of the horror genre.
I didn’t like either of the characters. I didn’t find them likeable and I didn’t “root” for either one. Normally there is at least one character I like, but not in this film. If I had to pick one it would be the unsuspecting man who delivered their room order.
I think I feel more for Chloe because I believe she was trying more than Jack was to mend their relationship. She even tells him at one point that he can leave her if he feels he wants to be with someone else. Jack on the other hand seems more obsessed about having sex than mending the marriage.
There is a lot of sexual situations in this film. The only nudity is a male butt for an extensive amount of time.
If you are squeamish about blood and guts, this is not the film for you. It’s pretty disgusting. I’m a fan of the horror movie genre, and zombies eating humans doesn’t bother me, but this film seemed to go a bit “over-the-top” as far as gore is concerned.
The ending is not what I expected. I saw the film ending another way.
I won’t say this film was predictable. It wasn’t, at least not for me.
This is an original story and not one I’ve seen done before, so that is always a good thing.
This film was not my “cup of tea,” but that doesn’t mean others won’t enjoy it.
People… please don’t do drugs, especially those thrown at you by a stranger on a beach. You don’t know what the “side effects” will be.
Below is the film’s trailer for your entertainment.
