Movie Review: The Fate of the Furious

Now available on Blu-ray, DVD, 4K Ultra HD and Digital HD is the heart pounding, high octane sequel in the popular Fast and the Furious franchise – The Fate of the Furious.

All of the cast regulars are back in the latest installment including Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris – as well as Kurt Russel and Nathalie Emmanuel. Joining them this time around are Charlize Theron, Jason Statham, Scott Eastwood, Luke Evans and Helen Mirren.

Life is wonderful for Dom and Letty. They are enjoying time in Cuba – a colorful and laid back tropical paradise. The rest of the gang are off doing their own thing and Brian (the late Paul Walker) and Mia are enjoying life as a family. They are not seen in the film but they are referenced in it.

One afternoon Dom encounters a beautiful stranger – except she’s no stranger. Dom appears to know who she is, but as a viewer, we are not sure exactly who she is or how he knows her. We do learn that she has something that Dom wants and that he’s willing to do what it takes to get it.

The encounter is not shared with Letty or any of his crew.

One one of the crew’s missions to retrieve an EMP device from a military outpost in Berlin for Agent Hobbs (Russel), Dom steals the device and takes off with it, his reasons unbeknownst to his crew – even Letty.

Suddenly Dom has gone rouge, and no one knows why.

The crew learns that Dom is now working with the international cyber-terrorist Cipher (Theron). She is holding on to something very special that belongs to Dom. In order to protect it, Dom must do EVERYTHING Cipher wants, even if it means going against his crew and Letty.

The crew have no idea why Dom is working with Cipher, but they know it’s not his will do work with the criminal mastermind. They feel like if they can get to Dom they can find out what she has on him and help him out. The only problem is it’s Dom Toretto, and if he doesn’t want you to catch him, you won’t be able to.

Go along for the ride with the crew as they chase Dom across the globe and tackle things like high tech planes and submarines fitted with nuclear warheads.

Will the crew be able to catch up to Dom before it’s too late? What does Cipher have that Dom desperately wants? To find out you need to pick up a copy of The Fate of the Furious. Look for it where ever movies are sold.

When I say “high octane” I do mean HIGH OCTANE. This film is one action packed scene after the next. I would expect nothing less from this franchise.

Some of the action sequences are totally far fetched, but, it’s not “realistic” action scene that you expect or even want to view for that matter. You want to see things that are mind blowing. This film does not disappoint. There are so many scenes that are so jam packed with action that you’ll want to hit the rewind button and watch them all over again.

I’m loving how the franchise was able to move on without Paul Walker.

Even though this is an action-drama film, there are elements of humor sprinkled throughout. I appreciate those little comedic nuggets.

The “item” that Cipher is holding of Dom’s was a bit of a surprise to me. Let’s just say I really wonder how the character Letty reacted to it when she found out. That was a bit of a “curve ball” to say the least.

This is a great, action packed film. I enjoyed it just as much as the other Fast and the Furious films. I can’t imagine what the next film could possibly be about.

There are bonus features with the film that are definitely worth checking out.

Bonus Features Exclusive to Blu-ray:

  • The Cuban Spirit – As the first major studio motion picture to shoot in Cuba in decades, the country’s effusive spirit permeates the making of the film.

  • Car Culture – It’s time to put yourself in the driver’s seat of the supercharged vehicles showcased in The Fate of the Furious.

The Fate of the Furious will be available on 4K Ultra HD in a combo pack which includes 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray and Digital HD. The 4K Ultra HD combo pack will include all bonus features on the Blu-ray disc.

I love the featurette about filming in Cuba. I never knew that it was such a beautiful, colorful, lively country and culture. After watching the featurette I want to plan a trip to Cuba! It’s gorgeous there.

The other featurette, All About the Stunts, is very interesting. It’s amazing how they put all these stunts together (and that no one gets hurt!). It’s mind-blowing!

You also have to love the cars used in this film (you should see all the cars filmed around Cuba). I would LOVE to drive one of those cars.

Have you seen The Fate of the Furious? If so, what did you think of the film?

Below is the theatrical trailer for your enjoyment. It’s now available for home viewing.
