Now available on both digital and in theaters is the horror film, Heart Eyes. The film will be available on Blu-ray and DVD on April 15, 2025.
The film is released by Sony Pictures Entertainment.
Heart Eyes stars Olivia Holt, Mason Gooding, Gigi Zumbado, Michaela Watkins with Devon Sawa and Jordana Brewster.
For the past few years a serial killer dubbed “heart eyes” has been going on a killing spree across the country specifically targeting couples on Valentine’s Day.
Ally (Holt), who is not looking for romance, meets the handsome Jay (Gooding) at work. Jay might be her undoing at work and cause her to get fired. For that reason she agrees to meet him for dinner to discuss work. Seeing as how it’s Valentine’s Day, people might assume they are a couple – or at least that is what “Heart Eyes” thinks.
Ally and Jay don’t have time to be romantic. They spend the holiday trying to escape the clutches of “Heart Eyes.”
Can anyone survive to see another Valentine’s Day? To find out, check out the film Heart Eyes. Look for it at a theater near you or on digital platforms.
I love horror movies. I jokingly say that I am a “horror movie snob.” It takes a lot to impress me. Sadly, almost all horror movies made nowadays are more about the gore, or there is a lot of sex, nudity and foul language involved. I’m not a “prude,” but I don’t think it’s necessary to have naked people and sex to create a great horror movie. Just think about the classics such as The Exorcist, The Shining and The Omen. I rest my case.
Anyway…
This film does have some great intense scenes that will make the easily squeamish close their eyes. Even the first few moments of the film are action packed and intense. This film literally does not waste time getting into the relentless “Heart Eyes” killer (also called “HEK” in the film).
He’s known as “Heart Eyes” because he (or she) wears a creepy mask with heart shaped eye openings that light up in the dark.
There are some bloody disgusting kill scenes… BUT… I don’t think that the film goes overboard like other horror movies do. As odd as it sounds, most of the kills are gross, but tastefully done, if that makes sense. There is a be-heading kill in the film that was gross, but cool (I know, I sound like a weirdo saying that). There is a kill in the beginning of the film that was super gross, but again, not overboard in my opinion.
This film has classic “slasher killer” vibes.
What makes this film stand out to me is that there is also a lot of humor in it. Not silly humor like “Shaun of the Dead.” But there are some very funny parts sprinkled throughout the film. For that reason I could say this is a horror/comedy film. I like that the humorous parts were actually funny.
The characters of Ally and Jay are very likeable. You really wanted to root for them to survive the night. There wasn’t any character that you found overly annoying that you couldn’t wait for him/her to be killed off.
Devan Sawa didn’t get much screen time in this film. Jordana Brewster has more scenes. I was surprise to see both of them in this film. I really only know Brewster from the Fast and the Furious movie franchise.
This “horror snob” truly enjoyed this film. It’s been the most enjoyable horror movie I have seen in a very long time. For me to say that is a lot because most horror movies released nowadays I don’t really care for or I find utterly boring. This movie was fun and very entertaining from beginning to end. I will definitely be watching this film again.
