Now available on digital platforms is the latest installment in the Marvel Studios movie franchise – Thunderbolts. The film will be released on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra on July 29, 2025.
Thunderbolts stars Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russel, Lewis Pullman, Olga Kurylenko, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and David Harbour.
I was going to write my own movie synopsis but I know I will give away too many spoilers (not intentionally of course). For that reason I’ll go with the official movie snyopsis.
Marvel Studios assembles an unconventional team of antiheroes with Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, Ghost, Taskmaster and John Walker. After finding themselves ensnared in a death trap set by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, these disillusioned castoffs must embark on a dangerous mission. Forced to confront the darkest corners of their pasts, will this dysfunctional group tear themselves apart, or find redemption and unite before it’s too late?
I have to laugh when I think about this film. I received a free digital code in order to do this review. My husband, who is not really a fan of Marvel movies (I love them), was more than happy to watch the film the same day I received the code. Normally he is not overly excited to see any film, but there is one good reason why he had to see this film – Florence Pugh. He’s a fan of hers. No problem with me. I didn’t have to feel guilty taking up 2+ hours of the television watching a movie he wasn’t interested in. He was glued to the screen the entire time. Ha Ha.
Now, I will admit that I am a bit loyal to the original Avengers (Captain America, Falcon, Black Widow, Thor, Falcon…), but I am open to change too. This group of somewhat misfit superheroes makes a great team.

I love that Marvel kept the humor, as well as the action, in this film as it has in previous Avengers films. I loved all the bickering and snarky comments back and forth between the Thunderbolt characters. Marvel did not “skip a beat” when making this film. It’s seamless when it comes to combining it with previous Marvel films. This one neatly fits inside the ever growing Marvel Universe.
The characters are all likeable in their own way. I liked seeing a bit of their backstories and how they felt lonely. I think that humanized the characters too.
This is a Marvel film, so you know the on screen action is going to be out of this world. This film was no exception. The special effects and action sequences are mind blowing, most especially when the group were racing through another realm into different rooms was crazy. There is also a part of the film where the dark void takes over New York City, making citizens literally “poof” into thing air.
I liked that the Thunderbolts fought evil people and not just evil beings that can take over the universe. Their nemeses are two people – Valentina and Sentry. While Sentry could go on to cause problems on a mass scale, Valentina is literally just a human with no special skills or super powers.
My interest was kept from start to finish. Even my husband had his eyes glued to the screen and didn’t even look at his phone. He said it wasn’t JUST about Pugh – he legitimately enjoyed the film.
This film has a run time of 2 hours and 20 minutes, and a rating of PG-13. It’s also a massive hit worldwide, currently raking in $382 million at the time I am writing this.
If you are diehard Marvel fan, or yet to become one, you will enjoy this film. It has heart, humor, insane action sequences and more – something for everyone.

Don’t forget to stick around when the credits roll. Marvel is known for hiding some “Easter eggs” in the credits of their films. This film has one too.
There will be some bonus features with will vary by product and retailer.
