Now playing available on digital is the heart warming, family friendly film, My Penguin Friend. The film is inspired by a true story.
My Penguin Friend stars Jean Reno, Adriana Barraza, and introducing the adorable and amazing DinDim the penguin.
My Penguin Friend is a triumphant tale of friendship between a lonely father and a little lost penguin who recharges his spirit and heals his family with an unshakable, ocean-crossing loyalty.
João (Reno) is a father who lost his only child to an unforeseen tragedy. The loss of his beloved son has made João turn his back on the world, opting to keep to himself, except for his wife (Oscar nominee Adriana Barraza).
One day João finds a penguin covered in oil drifting in the sea. He rescues the little critter and brings him back home to help care for it until it was able to return to the sea. His wife was not keen on the idea, but she knew he was determined.
For the first time in years João starts to feel joy, even if he cannot fathom just how unbreakable a bond is being formed. When the penguin suddenly disappears back into the immense wilds of the ocean, João believes it is impossible that he will ever see his friend again. But thousands of miles away, the penguin is caught in misadventures of his own, determined to use his unique GPS-like powers to find his way back to the place he now considers home, with João.
My Penguin Friend is a tale that traverses the magic of the ocean, the beauty of nature, and the transformative power of love.
This film is WONDERFUL! It truly warmed my heart, and even made me want to grab a box of tissues. Now I want a penguin friend. Ha Ha.
First and foremost I am AMAZED at the “acting” ability of DinDim the penguin. I didn’t think they could be taught to do specific things. I know you can train dogs, cats and bears, but penguins? DinDim really “stole the show” in this film. What an incredible little guy.
If you Google DinDim you’ll find more information about this amazing little creature and just how special his bond with João was.
I want to give Jean Reno a standing ovation for his work in this film. You could truly feel his pain and happiness throughout the film. His emotions in the film came pouring out of my television as I watched this film.
I’ve only seen Jean Reno in a few comedies such as Couples Retreat and Godzilla. I didn’t know he could play such dramatic roles to perfection. I was also surprised that he’s appeared in 119 films and television shows. Wow.
This is a delightful family friendly film both young and old alike will enjoy. Unlike most films that rely on high-tech props, CGI, and violence, this film is simple, natural and excellent.
If you are looking for a feel good movie, this is it. It made my heart smile, even though I wanted to cry a few times. Make sure you have tissues ready just in case.
This film has a run time of 97 minutes and is rated PG.
Below is the film’s theatrical trailer for your entertainment. The film is no longer in theaters.
